Well, that was an interesting game. The Hawks look much improved, but really I think most teams would look much improved against a San Francisco team that's borderline inept and embarrassing. For as much as Hawk fans get upset about the run game, could you imagine being a Niners fan and having to watch that passing attack each week.

For those of you, who weren't at the game, how was the Monday night broadcast. I saw they had the obligatory and cliched shot of Pike market and the fish throwing.

Anyway let's get to the links.... starting with the News Tribune..
Here's Frank's game story. Darrin wrote about the defensive pressure on quarterback Alex Smith with some interesting numbers about the Seahawks wins in corollary with getting sacks. The game notebook leads with the solid play of linebacker Kevin Bentley, who came up with the big stop on Frank Gore on 4th and 1 from the 2.

Dave's column focuses on the passing game.

Meanwhile, I had the luxury of covering the Niners lockerroom, where I talked to a very dejected D-Jack.

The "professor" and former News Tribune Hawks writer, John Clayton was in the house and filed this column on the passing game.

Let's take a look at how the San Francisco area papers covered the game.

From the San Francisco Chronicle ....
The game story ran under a headline "Scoreless in Seattle" The game notebook leads with Alex Smith maintaining his confidence in himself.

Columnist Ray Ratto writes about the nosedive of the Niners. The Niners game grades look like some of your report cards in college.

From the Santa Rosa Press Democrat ...
The game story from beat writer Matt Maiocco ran under the headline, "New Low for Niners." You do have to feel for head coach Mike Nolan, who wouldn't speak about the recent death of his father, Dick Nolan. His players talked about his "heart."

Columnist Lowell Cohn believes the Niners are inept and unprepared — every week.

From the Sacramento Bee...
The also used a scoreless in SEattle headline for the game story. Here's the game notebook leading with a faulty nickel defense.

From the San Jose Mercury News...
The game story

Columnist Mark Purdy writes about the frustrating day for head coach Mike Nolan...

Columnist Tim Kawakami blogged about the game and the MNF broadcast.

"For those of you, who weren't at the game, how was the Monday night broadcast."

For years, I've hated Monday Night Football, because they talk about everything except the game. ESPN is better then ABC, but I don't want to hear about (AND SEE) Drew Carey, et al in the middle of a drive when I want to see what's going on the field & hear intelligent comment about it. A couple times I found myself screaming when there was football being played & the camera was on the announcers.
nighthawk2 @ 10:53 - Tuesday, November 13th, 2007 Email
I don't understand having a Cleveland guy like Drew Carey raising the 12th Man flag. I'm tired of the guy in the booth with the three mouths routine too. Of course, the game was in the bag but still, they are broadcasting a football game. Jaworski saying they should kick the FG on the 1 yard line and Kornheiser arguing to go for it was interesting, especially after Gore got stuffed. The post game stuff with Steve Young and Emmitt Smith was better than the game announcing.
No12Seahawk @ 11:13 - Tuesday, November 13th, 2007 Email
The Monday Night crew was awful. Kornheiser and Turicco (or however you spell it) have GOT to go. Jaws at least knows football but the other two idiots are nauseating after about 8 minutes. Steve Young and Emmitt Smith are class acts and gave some pretty good insight. Boomer and TJ was awesome, but Keyshawn sucks and Parcells will be great as the next Seahawks head coach once Holmgren retires.

Whomever made the decision to have Drew Carey hoist the honored 12th Man Flag should be locked up. It was Monday Night Football! Were there no Seahawk Alums available? Maybe Curt Warner could hoist the flag, and inspire the running game, too.

GO HAWKS!

has anyone else noticed that nolan has'nt given us any credit for kickin' their tails two times this year? they've scored 3 points between two games against us, and it's always, well, we missed a chance to do this or that. i'm sorry about his dad, but gee! holmgren at least credited their team after we chocked the second game away last season. it's just respect. actually, i expected more whining and sarcasm from kornheizer last night about having to go to seattle for that game, and that half time hollywood nonsense has got to go. i fully agree, i kept seeing torico, (or however you spell it), straining out of the corner of his eye at his monitor as the play was about to be run, while drew carry rambled on about some soccer junk, that had nothing whatsoever to do with the game. oh well, nice butt-woopin'!!! go...seahawks!!!
waveblasternutcase @ 11:26 - Tuesday, November 13th, 2007 Email
I must agree that the ESPN game coverage was poor. the only reason that Drew Carey was there was to promote the new soccer team that he is helping to bring to Seattle. They spent so much time talking to him about useless things that there was no coverage on the field. And he raised the flag!!! I actually enjoy Jaws since he brings an actual player's view to the show. Steve Young and Emmitt Smith are good too. I told my son to bring all of his toys into the room so that I could listen to them instead of the ESPN crew! LOL!!!

Maybe it is all because of religion. Maybe it is the devils fault.

I agree with No12Seahawk. I think they didn't have much to talk about the whole night. When Young and Smith talked I was listening. ESPN really needs to do a better job.

The fish toss was awesome!!!
Audible @ 11:54 - Tuesday, November 13th, 2007 Email
Non-football related interviews (Like the Drew Carey infomercial last night) during halftime but ESPECIALLLY during live action is cheap and shameless marketing...and them letting Carey raise the 12th man flag was ridiculous.

"The Niners game grades look like some of your report cards in college."

Ha ha, ouch--some of us passed our classes in college, I'll have you know!

I enjoyed listening to Steve Young in the booth, but the rest mainly annoyed me by how quickly they lost interest in the game they're being paid to commentate. Why Young isn't one of the main announcers instead of playing third string to those babbling idiots is beyond me.
rbaker5 @ 12:09 - Tuesday, November 13th, 2007 Email
Did anybody else notice that on the play that Bentley stopped Gore on 4th down, Rocky Bernard (or another DT) did a great job of completely occupying the 49ers LT, which prevented the LT from blocking Bentley? I just thought that player should get some credit for that play.
questisbest @ 12:11 - Tuesday, November 13th, 2007
stumptown...you're almost right. actually, RELIGION is the devil's fault. true christianity is all that matters. if you've noticed, i've never approached the topic on here unless it'd been abused by someone else first. hey, did anyone notice that keyshawn was the only one in the studio to pick the 49-ers over us last night? hee-hee-hee. we did'nt want any part of him as a free agent, probably because of his me-first-ness, it's possible that's some of the axe he was grinding. what a poor pick. PEACE!
STTBM @ 12:15 - Tuesday, November 13th, 2007
That was the absolute worst play-by-play, camera-work, and game "analysis" (if you can call it that) that I have ever seen/heard. Espn MUST do away with bringing actors in for 15 minutes to hype tv shows during the game. And Kornhole -er, Kornheiser-- cant seem to shut up now that he has watched football for a whole year, he thinks he knows everything.

I found it infuriating that all three, plus emmitt smith and Parcells dismissed Alexanders issues this year and last as being a lack of heart. How much heart did Alexander show last year against Green Bay, Chicago, and San Diego? The San Diego game was the finest game I have ever seen from a rb. Aside from that, Alexanders lack of production is due to much more than a lack of heart on his part and the loss of Hutch...what about our aging LT Jones, what about Gray, Sims, Locklear, and Spencer sucking it up, what about the fact that Alexander played through injuries that many players would have sat out with? ESPN's commentators need to watch a few Hawks games ALL THE WAY THROUGH, and maybe take a look at the injury list before forming a half-assed opinion, especially one that impugns the character of a star football player...they have more nice things to say about Ray Lewis, Tank Johnson, Packman, and the other thugs the NFL cant seem to keep in line than they do about an injured MVP. Barf! I miss ABC!
blackhalobender @ 12:39 - Tuesday, November 13th, 2007
YAY HOLMGREN!!! I hope we use a different look on offense every week to take advantage of our strengths VS. our opponent's weaknesses. More likely teams will watch our offense last night and plan accordingly and we will lose again. If I'm the Bears I'm blitzing playing man tight in coverage and blitzing every down.

Of course Lovie is a system type of guy too. Maybe he will think their D still has it and that the Tampa-2 still beats the WCO like paper beats rock. I hope so because Hass+time=completion.

STTBM @ 12:43 - Tuesday, November 13th, 2007
qwest--they didnt call him Me-Shawn for nothing! what a mean, small minded dolt! Keyshawn only had 5 or 6 good seasons, till he got fat and lazy and lost his speed. talk about playing past your prime just to collect a paycheck...

blackhalo--thanks for the humor!
eaglehawk @ 14:45 - Tuesday, November 13th, 2007
I was at the game and saw Humpty Dumpty stand on a wall and raise the flag. We didn't mind because of the soccer thing, the 15 minutes of self promotion for the Price is Right and other shows, has no place on the broadcast.
As for Me-Shawn, he is an idiot that is a disgrace to announcing. No one takes him seriously, even his prediction that San Francisco will beat us Monday Night.

pabuwal @ 15:02 - Tuesday, November 13th, 2007 Email
Not enough attention has been paid to the loss of Mack Strong as a cause for the running woes. Their is a direct correlation with when he left the Steelers game to when the RBs stopped producing.

He clearly lost a lot since 2005, but he was a large key to the success.
ejones_sea @ 15:48 - Tuesday, November 13th, 2007 Email
Me-Shaw is one of the biggest vagasil users the NFL has every seen. The guy was constantly crying about something. Talk about a player with no heart.

I was personally pissed off about the long soccer commercial played just before kick off. How does that help get a real FOOTBALL fan fired up? And Drew Carry.. what the ***? This part was pathetic and I feel like it is probably all ESPN's fault. They should at least lower the beer prices at the stadium because of this paid infomercial.
navy_at_3 @ 17:57 - Tuesday, November 13th, 2007 Email
Drew Carey raising the flag was a PR stunt for the new seattle soccer team. Plain and simple. FYI seattle's soccer team has alot more to do with Seattle's seahawks then you think. "http://www.sportsnetwork.com/default.asp?c=sportsnetwork&page=soc-mls/news/ahn4112523.htm"

ESPN owns ABC which is owned by Disney. Look up Disney "http://www.cjr.org/resources/"

The post game was great. Nice to see the guys give love to Matt. In the past (philly, oak) monday night games, the post game was nothing but how well the Colts are playing... even though they didnt play monday. I hated watching highlights and talk of all the other teams that played sunday when a team just blew another team out on monday. It was different this time and i for one appreciate that.

navy_at_3 @ 17:59 - Tuesday, November 13th, 2007 Email
oh yeah i wanted to back up Ryan's comment about how SF makes any team look good.... it's true. They made ATL look great where A Smith only threw for 149 yards.
navy_at_3 @ 18:06 - Tuesday, November 13th, 2007 Email
Doesnt ABC own price is right?... and plus Drew didnt bring up price is right (not defending him though).

Drew Carey was not even funny!!! Who will be the person raising the flag this week??? toss in your votes!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't recall Keyshawn Johnson picking SF to win. I do recall Emmitt Smith picked them, and he was the only one, because he thought they'd be fired up emotionally with the coach's father dying. He didn't say he thought they were better though. That didn't happen, the 49ers were flat and lacked emotion the whole night. I believe the Price is Right is on CBS. ESPN's broadcasts of MNF always suck, but that was one of the worst.
Regis @ 05:16 - Wednesday, November 14th, 2007 Email
I do...we discussed it in chat. They went down the list...

TJ - Hawks
Tuna - Hawks
Keyshawn - 49ers
Berman - Hawks

Then they went on location...

Emmitt - Hawks
Young - Hawks
Stuart - Hawks

You can also check here (although they have been known to say differently the day of the game)...

your right night. Price is right is aired on CBS... this is way WAY off subject i know so sorry, but i found it totally interesting that Price is Right is produced by a German company owned by the FremantleMedia wing of the RTL Group, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Price_is_Right :P

It's related to football i promise, ESPN MNF told me so.

I know... I know.. tell me to stfu and ban me :P

I am thinking that if this is Holmgrens last year in Seattle he will end up in San Francisco! "It's the back to his roots thing."
miwaszuk @ 15:37 - Wednesday, November 14th, 2007
ESPN commentators? Muted the TV and listened to the radio. Much better.
