Shaun Alexander is not going to play on Sunday, Mo Morris starting at RB. Mike Holmgren said he told Alexander that until he can put in a full week of practice he is not going to play him. So if Shaun is there next Wednesday, he has a shot against the Rams. Otherwise, no go. Holmgren said he thinks Alexander is close.

[More:]

Walter Jones did not practice, and neither did Darryl Tapp, both having sore shoulders. Both will play, Holmgren said. Pork Chop was getting reps at Walter's spot and Ellis Wyms was getting time in place of Tapp.

Deion Branch also will play, which will reduce the number of reps Bobby Engram gets, though he will be in on three-receiver sets. Nate Burleson's time also will be severely cut.

Leroy Hill was practicing and Holmgren said he is ready to play. CJ Wallace and Will Herring did not practice and I'm guessing neither will play since they have not practiced all week.

Lofa Tatupu and Kelly Jennings each had some nice interceptions, Jennings' tipped two or three times before he corralled it.

Game ball were given to Ben Joppru on special teams, Kevin Bentley on defense and Matt Hasselbeck on offense.

Running backs coach Stump Mitchell left the team because he has a severe illness in his family in Georgia. Mack Strong was stepping in for Stump at practice today.

This is about the smartest thing Mike has done all year long.... not to mention about the best thing for the Seahawks ATM!

NOoooo im not a SA hater and not busting out the hateraid (i'll save that for rexxie and CHI) but for SA to rest and get healthy hopefully intime for the playoffs is the next goal.

Get better soon SA!
navy_at_3 @ 14:24 - Friday, November 16th, 2007 Email
Oh yeah... the next test is to see how SA conducts himself and handles this situation. Hopefully it's positive but he is subject to pout (and i say that with the utmost respect).

Meanwhile, here's to you MoMo lets get er dun.

21 Hawks, 7 Bears

Frank, what about Ray Willis?
mingweezy @ 14:25 - Friday, November 16th, 2007 Email
Right now Morris is in his prime, which is a far cry from Shaun in his prime. That being said, Morris in his prime is better than Shaun 2 years removed from his prime and suffering from multiple injuries.

GO MO!!!!
Frank Hughes @ 14:40 - Friday, November 16th, 2007 Email
Ray Willis practiced but I don't know that he is ready to play. I will put the official injury list up when it is made available.
chrishuw @ 14:40 - Friday, November 16th, 2007 Email
go mo. play well and keep alexander on the bench
blackhalobender @ 14:42 - Friday, November 16th, 2007
Echo on Willis. Id rather have him in there vs tommy harris then grey.

No SA this week? Yay one more win before we go back to losing. I'm not a SA Hater, I'm just realistic. The guy has no place on this pass first team. No block, no catch, no service.
TechWorlds @ 14:45 - Friday, November 16th, 2007 Email
So Walt, Rocky, ect don't have to practice all week and still can play yet Shaun has to have a full week of practice?

Sounds like Mike is just making excuses to keep Shaun out of the lineup. I think he is trying to go in a different direction without throwing Shaun under the bus.
star4343 @ 14:51 - Friday, November 16th, 2007 Email
O rmike is just telliogn the truth and he wants Sa healthy befor eh plays so that he can show you haters he still has it. SO my vies is one more week of a run game no better than what a hurt Sa gave you. MH ahs already said when he is ready Sa is the starter so that is that. AS to wining with Sa, us wining last week had very little to do with MO adn allot to do with Hass, so stop fooling yourself. All last week did is prove the o-line cannot run block and MO can give you what a hurt SA can.
navy_at_3 @ 14:51 - Friday, November 16th, 2007 Email
come on TechWorlds, totally different players/positions. PLUS Walt, Rocky doent have cast's on their arm, swollen or painful knees amongst other injuries. EVERY O and D Lineman will be hurt to some degree each and every week.... but these "nasty uglies" are built tough (no not ford tough) and know no pain. ALSO, They havnt shown fear yet.

navy_at_3 @ 14:53 - Friday, November 16th, 2007 Email
start winning last week had more to do with the D then Matt, Mo, Engram had to do with the win.
pabuwal @ 15:05 - Friday, November 16th, 2007 Email
Here's hoping that Morris can crack 3.5 yards/rush and doesn't fumble.
navy_at_3 @ 15:21 - Friday, November 16th, 2007 Email
news flash, if we get a huge lead and all we are doing is running to use up time towards the end of the game, i highly doubt he will get above 3.5ypc... that's just the nature of the beast (being ahead and just running it).
ochawk @ 15:21 - Friday, November 16th, 2007 Email
"Super poster navy_at_3...can post faster than SA on 3rd and 1 for no gain.. Able to post comments to his previous posts quicker than SA falling down in the face of an approaching defender...
DarthKripple @ 15:31 - Friday, November 16th, 2007 Email
Yeah Navy, Especially with a leg injury. If it limits him, he shouldn't play at all. On the arm, I wish I felt like we could wait for the cast to come off of his arm, but something tells me we will need him.

I rewatched the TB game. He doesn't look slow, just tentative with the cast. He seemed to have great quickness coming out of the TB game.
redneckhawk @ 15:58 - Friday, November 16th, 2007 Email
nice to see Mrs. Alexander defending her daughter
PapaHawk @ 16:14 - Friday, November 16th, 2007 Email
I'd be confused if I was Shaun on this one- some guys don't practice all week and can play, then I can't play because I don't practice?

I'm sure that Mike, Stump and Shaun have had a talk together about the plan to get him back on the field. Mike's just trying to get the media to pipe down and move on to something else. He knows as well as we do that without an able hand and knee Shaun will only hurt himself further and have his detractors pick on him more. Hopefully behind the scenes he's getting more healthy and he's going to come back without the cast.

But I doubt it.
nighthawk2 @ 16:24 - Friday, November 16th, 2007 Email
I'm a founding member of the I Hate Shaun Alexander Club, and proud of it. I want him off this team yesterday. Yeah, Morris fumbled when a guy put a shoulder on the ball. Gee, Leon has never done that, has he? Morris also scored our first rushing touchdown since what, week 2? 100 yards of offense total for him with that same line Leon couldn't manage better than 47 yards with looks pretty good to me. I hope we see the headline every week "Shaun Alexander Won't Play This Week".
kinger12 @ 16:24 - Friday, November 16th, 2007 Email
thats the difference between a skill position and a brute! I am sure there is a nicer way of saying that but thats the short of it. Walt playing with a sore shoulder is one thing but having a WR that can't run 100% and make cuts or catch there is no point same goes for an RB.
DSAhawker @ 16:42 - Friday, November 16th, 2007
http://www.freewebs.com/dsahawker
Why would Alexander be confused?

Walt is sitting out due to a sore shoulder that they do not want to aggrivate further. Walt CAN perform at 100% if he really had to, but there is no reason to risk further injury/pain. He knows his duty(as does anyone else) and he can fully perform that on game day.

Alexander is sitting out due to a bum knee and ankle. If he is unable to participate in practice due to injuries that keep him from running at 100%, then why throw that into a game situation???? These injuries keep him from making the cuts and stops that are needed at the RB position. Due to that, he will not be able to play in a game until he can fully participate in the practices beforehand.

sitting Walter is a precaution and keeping him fresh for gameday

sitting Alexander is tending to his injuries
JimWilke @ 16:54 - Friday, November 16th, 2007 Email
Here's the list of players that need less practice than Walter:
navy_at_3 @ 18:12 - Friday, November 16th, 2007 Email
your point ochawk? at least i contribute one way or another to ... football talk vs personal observation talk.
navy_at_3 @ 18:16 - Friday, November 16th, 2007 Email
jim... didnt see your list....

lmao

oh yeah that's because there's NONE. Good one :P
bigmike04 @ 19:06 - Friday, November 16th, 2007 Email
I am gone come out say I am not fan of Shaun Alexander. But I do like Mike Holmgren decision not to play shaun Alexander. Why fix something that not broke. Shaun Alexander couldnt pass block to save his life much less run with any heart. Shaun Alexander had his chance to prove to everyone to keep playing him. Broken hand or not he got his chance and he failed.
bobbyk03 @ 19:23 - Friday, November 16th, 2007 Email
I disagree, he runs with heart ONLY when he's close to the goal line. Other than that, you're right about him being terrible in pass protection, terrible at receiving, and terrible at running with any heart while not in the red zone.
DarthKripple @ 20:05 - Friday, November 16th, 2007 Email
Bobby, that style of running kept him injury free for the bulk of his career. Running low and loose playing to avoid contact in 2005 helped him touch the ball 400 times with no significant injuries. In the redzone, the likely hood that you'll be blinsided if you keep yourself tall and somewhat Exposed goes way down.

The difference from 2002-2005 and after is that the O-line has caused All of Alexander's injuries. It was a missed block by Pork Chop that got Alexander's foot crushed last year. Defensive lineman have had free and clean shots on Shaun and I don't care how big or good you are, you get those 6'4" 280 lineman smoking you like crack, you wouldn't hold up either. It was a missed block by Spencer that Allowed Alexander to get the back of his leg rolled up on by the browns, creating this latest problem.
williambryan @ 22:36 - Friday, November 16th, 2007 Email
The only thing wrong with SA is injuries and poor run blocking. Morris is a capable back up and a good change of pace back and thats it. he is NOT a good pass catching back! he has what, 1 recieving TD? Shaun has proven that he can catch the ball, see 3 years of +40 catches. He has also proven that you cant catch a ball with one good hand and one in a cast, duh. Is he a horrible blocker? He has been beat but he has also made blocks too. and no top tier backs are known for their blocking anyways.

SA fan or hater, the facts are he is well below 100% healthy his line has blocked poorly. Morris behind that line hasn't and won't fair any better. remember the first 3 weeks of the season when Alexander had 2 100 yard games and was off to the best start yardage wise of his career? thats right. give the guy a break, and watch morris be serviceable and maybe get some yards on a draw play that is set up by the loaded passing game.
navy_at_3 @ 23:24 - Friday, November 16th, 2007 Email
william, how many times has MoMo been able to start this season and play in the game when not trying to pick up garbage time, which you wouldnt be passing anyways....

He's a hell of alot better receiver then SA cast or no cast.
redneckhawk @ 07:34 - Saturday, November 17th, 2007 Email
What would be the cap hit for cutting $hauna?

God knows we couldn't get anything for him in a trade...
WiscCory @ 09:20 - Saturday, November 17th, 2007 Email
I was extremely surprised that Ruskell went CB with the first pick last year, and not RB. Maybe there wasn't a 2nd round quality RB available. The Hawks could've easily kept Herndon, and drafted a RB that might've been able to work into the starting line-up by next season.

Now the Hawks are a season behind in replacing that position with a 3 down back. Don't think Momo is a full time starter, and Weaver is only suited for passing downs or short yardage.

I agree with other posters. I'm going to observe Alexander closely on the sidelines to see how he takes this. We should learn quite a bit about his character on Sunday. I still have this image in my mind of Shaun grabbing the NFC title trophy and trotting around Quest....by himself! I had suspitions about selfishness at that time, and certain actions since have confirmed those suspitions.

Mr. Alexander....we're watching! One way to stop the boo's is being a team player!
WiscCory @ 09:23 - Saturday, November 17th, 2007 Email
BTW - The CJ loss is HUGE this game. Devin Hester!!! AT least LL will be on coverage.
Canfan @ 09:51 - Saturday, November 17th, 2007 Email
A healthy Alexander would be better than Morris, even today.

Everybody seems to have forgotten that Alexander averaged 100 yards a game in his last seven games last season -- after returning from the foot injury. He may not be great anymore, but I bet he's still very good, and I for one don't want to see him getting 1,300 yards for another team next season.

I'd be okay with sitting him the whole season, if that's what it takes to get healed. But getting rid of him? That would be crazy.
JimWilke @ 10:15 - Saturday, November 17th, 2007 Email
Sit him during the year he turns 31 while paying him $5 million not to play - so he can come back and collect another $5 million to play a season when he's 32?

I don't see it.
JimWilke @ 10:15 - Saturday, November 17th, 2007 Email
And I remember him getting 100+ yards a game last year - most of the yards came late in the games in garbage/prevent time.
navy_at_3 @ 15:24 - Saturday, November 17th, 2007 Email
very true. The question to ask is how many times did he break a 20 yard run compared to the average RB AND how many running plays were there on average per game last season.
snegura2002 @ 05:37 - Sunday, November 18th, 2007 Email
Just checked the Seahawks roster... Who are Leon and $auna?
