First of all, Deion Branch has what Mike Holmgren said he thinks he is a pretty serious knee injury. He will have an MRI tomorrow and then go from there, depending on the outcome. Also, Josh Scobey broke his fibular and will have to have surgery to repair it. As John Clayton pointed out to me, both injuries happened on or around the 19-yard line.

The postgame locker room had this feel: We're diappointed, but we just got smacked by a better team. Hats off to the Packers for playing a really good football game.

[More:]

Everybody said the weather was a factor -- but they couldn't use it as an excuse. Matt Hasselbeck said he had trouble seeing people at times. Nate Burleson said he either could not see the ball clearly all the time, or on punt and kickoff returns he was always worried about a snow flake going in his eye while he was looking up. Holmgren said he thinks the snow negated Seattle's one big advantage, their speed and quickness. He said he couldn't remember a time when he lived here that the weatherman was more wrong in his prediction.

Holmgren said he thought that while Brett Favre was good -- "vintage" was a word regularly being tossed around -- it was the rushing game and Ryan Grant that made the difference. That, and the fact that the defense did not lay a hand on Favre. Patrick Kerney said he knew he was going to get double- or triple-teamed but he still expected to have more of an impact. Of his roughing the passer penalty, Leroy Hill said, "Well, it is Brett Favre."

Darrin Beene said he spoke to Marcus Pollard in the locker room and Pollard said, "Those are plays I normally make." He shook his head. "I'm having a really tough time coping right now."

On the play where the spot was challenged and reviewed by the refs, Hasselbeck said the whole thing was a joke and Holmgren said he simply asked the refs, "If they are short by three inches for a first down, and you respot it four inches ahead, why do you even have to bother re-measuring." He insinuated that to him it seems a little unbelievable that looking at a television camera is precise enough to know exactly where to spot it four inches ahead. Still, with the way the Packers were moving the ball, it probably didn't make a difference.

Rocky Bernard said he sensed that Green Bay was nervous to start the game, probably because it had a bye week last week, the reason Seattle jumped to a 14-0 lead. After they got going, though, Seattle could not stop them.

Nothing like seeing our guards getting blown up all game long. The defense laid down after the two quick turnovers. Farve being Farve led his team to the promise land. Unlike our sorry defensive coaches. ONCE AGAIN CALLING ABSOLUTE GARBAGE. Im wondering how many qb hits we had on Farve?? No hits on the qb=Seahawks loss. Marshall=GONE, along with SHAUNA AND GRAY.
montanahawk @ 18:13 - Saturday, January 12th, 2008 Email
I don't think the Packers are a better team and I don't think that it turns out that Deion Branch is worth a first round pick.
montanahawk @ 18:15 - Saturday, January 12th, 2008 Email
Gone = Marshall, Shauna, Mo, Gray, Branch. Let's hope Tubbs is healthy next year.
mibuttiznum @ 18:17 - Saturday, January 12th, 2008 Email
sheesh. Bad news about Branch. Reminded me alot of the pitt game where he goes out, and the whole team just deflates. And this injury sounds bad. It will probably take away his greatest facet of his game.(his quickness )This injury made a suspect decision as viewed by some even more of a disaster. I feel for him, and for the team today.

Marcus Pollard was PATHETIC!!!!! Our defense is based on speed and the snow COMPLETELY took away our strength. If this game is played in Seattle I think the Hawks win. If it is played on a neutral field, I think it is a close game. WHERE WERE OUR LINEBACKERS?????
I know every team in the playoffs ends their season with a loss, but after getting up 14-0 the loss was crushing. If only Big-Play (Almost) Babs came up with that interception with the Hawks up 14-0 who knows how it would have turned out. If the Hawks go up 21-0 maybe the Pack abandons the running game. As it turns out, they score to make it 14-7 and decide to stick with their original game plan.
I am a big Mike Holmgren fan, but I can't help but feel it is time for him to move on and for a change.
Montanahawk, hoping for Tubbs to be healthy next year is Fool's Gold.
Of course Branch wasn't worth a 1st round pick. Randy Moss and D-drop fetched 4th round picks, Wes Welker a 2nd round pick. Only a big, tall dominant receiver would be worth that and that isn't Branch.

I said this DEFENSE was 5000% better than 2004's,

I was dead wrong....

This Defense laid down like Paris Hilton at a meet and greet....

If Green Bay didn't hand us 14 points off the bat, it would have been the worse beat down in Division Game history

We Need a TE

We Need a DEF not to wuss out in the snow

We Needed this game in Seattle....

Congrats to the Packers - go beat the Cowboys....

See ya Pollard......

What a life to have a team in the playoffs FIVE consecutive years. It's tough to keep it in perspective when we lose one like today, but I remember when the idea of the Hawks making the playoffs was an absurd one!

I think it would be nice to have Holmgren stick around one more year, but if he goes, I'd love to see us hire either Mora or Marshall. Who do you guys think would be a likely / sensible replacement?

And before people hate on our defense--which, to be fair, played terribly in two of the last three games--it was still one of the more dominant defenses in the league and our rush defense was strong considering that we lost Tubbs and Darby. Mebane had a terrific year and I would love to see him size up a bit and become a disruptive Seahawk for years to come.
lordtd @ 19:01 - Saturday, January 12th, 2008 Email
We'd have lost this game on any field in any conditions. We are not a tough team overall. There are some tough players (Hasselbeck, Tatupu, etc.) but our offensive line is nothing, and our defensive line is not stout against the run. We didn't play any power running teams all year.

We are an undersized team overall. Our receivers are small, our DBs are small, our DL are small. I don't mind getting smaller guys every once and a while, but you're not going to build a power team with them. Minnesota is doing it right, building from the OL.

We need a TE, OL, DL, RB and we'd better start thinking about LT. Jones is not getting younger, and if we were to lose him, then you'd really see the wheels come off.

I think right now we aren't a very good team. I'm not optimistic about next year. I don't know why we should expect to be any better on offense. We're going to need a starting RB, TE and 2 guards just to begin the list.

Also, was Branch worth a first-round pick? With Moss going for a fourth-round pick I'd have to say there's no way. But he is a great WR when he's healthy, though this year was a pretty disappointing one for him. Maybe we can trade him to the 49ers for their first round pick this yea---oh wait, the Pats already took care of that. Dang!

Seahawks 2008 World Champions!

"But he is a great WR when he's healthy"

and when will that be?

our strenght and conditioning team needs to be fired (amongst other key personal).
halfemptyfilms @ 19:26 - Saturday, January 12th, 2008 Email
That is one thing we can absolutely agree on Navy. It got much better this year (strength and conditioning) from last year, but we have chronic problems with injuries going back years now. Time to start over with that staff!
klester @ 19:29 - Saturday, January 12th, 2008 Email
Someone needs to check Marcus P's checking account. He was seriously on the take from the start. Weak fumble on a first down, dropped touchdown, dropped ist down later. The guy must sleep in green and yellow. He sucks and should be gone from the NFL next year. Where'd the D go, they should give up thier pro bowl invite. Not derserving!!! Give to better players that play every week. You guys are lame!!!
Lifetime fan, suffering again. Seahawks, one and out and OUT!!!
klester @ 19:46 - Saturday, January 12th, 2008 Email
Holmgren made a terrible decision to stick with Chris Gray. When Ray Willis returned from injury, he should have been in there at right quard. Gray has played a long time, but clearly isn't a third of the player he never was. Walter Jones is around two three years max, the window just slammed close. My guess is Holmgren walks away, knowing it won't happen next year either. O line is a major WEAKNESS!! Grab a guard in free agency. Grab a gameplan, coaching staff, 10-6 next year good for another road wild card loss. JOKE Season......again.

Marcus Pollard ... "'Those are plays I normally make." He shook his head. "I'm having a really tough time coping right now.'"

I only hope he's got a degree in something useful or he's really going to have a tough time coping next September.

Only for conversation but, The Big Show hasn't ever developed a good Tight End. Maybe next year in the draft .......

The only thing worse than the game is how the blog has changed since Sando left. Are there any other options?
bigmike04 @ 21:23 - Saturday, January 12th, 2008 Email
What a bunch of idiot clown some of you guys are. One person says Deion Branch wasnt worth a 1st round pick well he was to me and injury is part of the game and if you cant get that than I dont know what you can get.

I am not trying calling out anyone but I am so sick of tired of all the whinners out their who jump off the bandwaggon and start blamming people. Oh it Tim Russell fault for letting Hutchinson go and giving Alexander that big contract and for trading 1st round pick for branch. That move was design to win now and not win later. That first round pick would have been 3rd to 4th string and everyone knows that. It not like the guy can come in here and learn the system right away it takes awhile.

Than people want to blame Holmgren for the lost and think he should retired and replace with Jim mora jr who I think not good HC material in NFL. Than we got people who want to blame the players for playing so poorly.

We got beat by good team in Green Bay who in 1st Quater came back from 14 point diffrent and kept on scoring while our Defensive couldnt even get tackle on anyone. You think Marcus Tubbs could do any better because I Dont think so this guy cant even stay injury free and wasnt worth that 1st round pick on him. He didnt help us when we draft him and probably wont even help us now.

Yes their is some position that clearly need to be look at for instance get a better RB weather it in the draft or signing a guy like Michael Turner. We need to get better at our OG and TE and get a DT that will stay healthy unlike Tubbs.

SO if you guys gone get all down and out on seahawks than please think about this. We didnt play so great this year on the road and we would have went on the road to dalls if they won where probably we would have lost their. Our season is over but we play great team in green bay. Now it time to get ready for next season and I am hoping some changes to our coaching staff need to made and that having holmgren coming back and firing john Marshall.

Here to next season and making it to playoff.
bigmike04 @ 21:27 - Saturday, January 12th, 2008 Email
we all know going into playoff that a running game works and Green Bay knew that too because they didnt have running game until someone stood up and decide to do something about it.

We got some valuable FA on seahawks this coming off season and that Trufant and Brown.

We should resign both of them during the season especiality brown and trufant who I hope dont leave.
