I just spoke with Bentley's agent, Kenneth Zuckerman, who said that not only is Bentley going to command more money on the open market than he made last year ($625K) or than the Seahawks can afford this year, but he no longer wants to play behind one of the top linebacking corps in the NFL. He would rather start. Zuckerman said that Bentley's ability to play all three positions, as well as his prowess on special teams, will make him a commodity on Friday.

"I really haven't talked to the Seahawks in too much detail about Kevin," Zuckerman said. "I haven't talked to them in a couple weeks. But Kevin is the kind of guy who will generate interest in the market. So that is right, I don't expect him to be back with Seattle."

Can't blame ya. Good luck to you Kevin. Be interesting to see who he signs with.
IDHawkman @ 13:40 - Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 Email
Yeah, I don't see us paying him much more and I'm not sure he's a starting type LB. He did "OK" when subbing for Hill but not much more than that.
idahoseahawksfan @ 13:40 - Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 Email
Good point from Bentley! The Hawks are stout at that position!
dlport @ 14:04 - Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 Email
This is a loss. Hill cannot stay healthy, and Bentley is a nice replacement for the invariable injury-bug, while also a good special teams player. We will need to be looking out for a veteran LB who can backup all 3 positions.
truehawk @ 14:05 - Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 Email
Good Luck.........Bentley needs to moveon, because there is no way he can crack the lineup with the guys we have.
Oldslow @ 14:10 - Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 Email
That increases the likelihood of drafting a linebacker this year. A speed, special teams type, much like Herring.
STTBM @ 14:16 - Wednesday, February 27th, 2008
Oldslow--the LB class in this years draft is considered horrible. Not a good time to spend a pick on a LB, but need may force the Hawks, especially if Niko leaves too.

Too bad, Bentley was a key backup. He helped us beat Carolina by stuffing Smith at the line, making him so angry and frustrated the dude had penalties called on him.

IDHawkman--Um, Bentley had 10 tackles in the one game he started last year. He is good enough to start for more than half the teams in the league, and was a great backup. Were sure to miss him on special teams as well.
BobbyK @ 14:24 - Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 Email
This is a good role player whose loss will hurt a little bit on defense but mainly on special teams.
We all know Hill is good to miss a few games so now who is going to be our starting strongside LB next year for the games LeRoy will miss?
Super Hawk @ 14:29 - Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 Email
Good luck Kevin you where a good Hawk and I wish you luck and hope you get the opportunity to start on your new team!

I like Bentley and I think he is pretty good. But I don't really see a team that will step up and actually sign him as the starter? Is there a team out there that would really see him as their solution and put him in a starting gig? I can only really see him going in and fighting for some playing time.

Good luck to Bentley whever he ends up.

I'm intersted to see more of Herring and actually see how much Cameron Jensen has improved. I thought that Cameron could have maybe snuck onto the active roster last year but he didn't quite make it off the practice squad....but I really liked what I saw out of him for the most part. He seemed to play pretty hard nosed, which I like.
pabuwal @ 14:30 - Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 Email
Bentley did a lot of good things for the Seahawks, namely tracking down Westbrook on the punt return to save the Philly game.
cru16 @ 14:45 - Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 Email
A little off the subject but this came from the Nashville Tennessean about Alge Crumpler. I hope Ruskell can pull off some magic so we can see him playing in a Seahawks uniform!

As expected, free agent Alge Crumpler is in Tennessee on Wednesday.

No teams seem nearly as intent on adding Crumpler as the Titans. It's a guess, but we'd expect him to sign a contract before the free agency period starts.

Leshthomas,

Don't kid yourself, he is an OK player but not much more. So what if he had 10 tackles, he should have had 14 in that game. He does well (not great) on Special Teams.

As was stated above, I don't see any team out there thinking he is going to be the "answer" to their defense. Not with so many big names at LB in the free agency market. Those teams that have a "big" need at LB will go after the Lance Briggs, or Thomas (who already was scooped up). That will leave Bently looking for a spot to compete for a starting role but not a big "FA" signing. The good thing for him is that he'll at least get a "chance" to start whereas here, he would only get to start "if" someone gets hurt.

Wow, this blog is really slow and amazingly, this is my first double post on this blog because of it.

{Off topic}

What is the recovery time for a torn patellar tendon? (I hear that Booger McFarlard was released by the Colts; and he missed last year with that injury.) It seems, for the right price, he might be a nice addition to the depth at defensive line. I have heard that the chances of Tubbs returning are slim.

firejimmoradotcom @ 16:04 - Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 Email
This gives Hill ALL of the negotiation power next year. A little surprised they wouldn't make a move on Bentley, simply to have him as an option if Hill bolts.
hawk9680 @ 16:12 - Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 Email
I always thought he could start on some teams, but let's be realistic about it with Seattle. He knows that he has no shot. Two of the best Linebackers (Lofa & Julian) and I think the most underrated linebacker (LeRoy) because he's overlooked by the other two. Thanks for the great three years you had with us as a special teams player but I'm pretty proud to have Niko too.
hawks4372 @ 16:17 - Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 Email
My god, you people can't even let go of Chris Gray and Kevin friggin' Bentley? You're the least knowledgeable group of people that watch football in the history of the world. If W wore a 'Hawks jersey through the halls of the White House you'd say he was the greatest prez ever. I'm embarrassed for you thoughtless lemmings.
wrath00 @ 17:39 - Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 Email
No need to break the bank to keep this guy. He's a depth player, at best, and that role can be filled via the draft or the waiver wire later on. Good luck to him wherever he ends up.

Motojunkie @ 17:47 - Wednesday, February 27th, 2008
I appreciate what Kevin has done. I think Lance Laury will be the guy to step into his role. I'm hopeful that we keep Niko, since he's our only backup ILB. It seems that Will Herring may develop into a worthy backup.
Stevo @ 18:02 - Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 Email
We don't need Bentley - unless of course Hill or Peterson gets injured - then we will miss Bentley real bad.

Hey showhawks - where did you hear that chances of Tubbs returning is slim? Is that from a real team source or just chatter? He had recovered really well last year from microfracture surgery and then tore an ACL - but most guys return from that in a year. We need him back.
BobbyK @ 18:52 - Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 Email
I think it's just wishful thinking on Tubbs. He's a big, big man and if anyone depends on him being a stud --- you're going to be sorry. Micro two years ago and it'll be less than 1 year when training camp begins for his ACL --- those aren't good odds from Mr. Injury Himself. Don't get me wrong, I'd love for him to contribute in '08, I just don't see it happening.
klm008 @ 20:13 - Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 Email
IDHawkman-
KFFL said Lance Briggs is expected to sign with the 9ers. Dang!

Gonna miss Bently, sorry Hawks 4372. Bently played well for Hawks and hate to see him go. Best wishes.

We're really starting to feel the loss of Mike Reinfeld in all things salary cap.
bigmike04 @ 23:52 - Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 Email
Bentley isnt started in NFL period. I mean if he couldnt cut it withe browns as stater than what make his chance with anothe team any better? He got to accept that he more of backup player that good on special team.
chucklenuts66 @ 10:22 - Thursday, February 28th, 2008 Email
Bentley is not much of a loss. There was a pretty big drop-off in play between hill and him. I don't think there is much of a drop between bentley and herring/laury.

We'll be fine.

Jensen reminds me of Kaz, at least in the little I saw him play. Huge effort/heart guy, but just not that talented.
UT Hawk @ 10:39 - Thursday, February 28th, 2008 Email
You just can't hate on that decision. Bentley is good enough to start, just not behind one of the elite LB corps in the NFL. He will be making good money next year where ever he goes. Good luck to him, I just hope he doesn't go to someone on the Hawks schedule!
nwdave @ 12:44 - Thursday, February 28th, 2008 Email
There are players like this all over the NFL and in the draft. Yes he was a good backup and ST player but guys like this are backups and special teamers for a reason.
maynerd @ 16:09 - Thursday, February 28th, 2008 Email
You'll be missed Bentley you were a solid 2nd tier LB and great special teams player for the hawks.
