Did Seahawks wide receiver D.J. Hackett overestimate his value on the open market? So far the oft-injured wide receiver has yet to make a free-agent visit, though his agent told a Web site that he expects the Buccaneers and Redskins to come calling this week. If nobody gives him the type of money he is seeking, perhaps that will open the possibility that he could be back in a Seattle uniform next season.

It'd be nice if he came back with a 1 or 2 year contract.
blocis @ 13:34 - Monday, March 3rd, 2008 Email
It would be terrific if DJ could come back at the right price. Really, if he could sign a one or two year deal and stay healthy and productive, he could get his big contract then.

From KFFL.....

KFFL has learned free-agent LB Nick Greisen (Ravens) will visit the Seattle Seahawks Tuesday, March 4.

I've seen much lesser WRs being signed left right and center. I think he way under estimated the importance of being healthy.
uk_Hawk @ 13:49 - Monday, March 3rd, 2008 Email

Top class receiver who just needs to stay healthy.

chuck_easton @ 13:53 - Monday, March 3rd, 2008 Email
Perhaps this will be the eye opener for DJ.

1) You are a STUD on the field.

2) You have to actually be ON the field to show your true talent.

3) You can't take games off for little aches and have people see your ability.

4) A full season of playing 12-16 games and you will be seen for the #1 you clearly are.

5) Until then people aren't going to take that chance on you.

And lastly, SEATTLE IS THE BEST PLACE FOR YOU TO SHOW YOUR TALENT.

Of course that last part is just me as a fan talking.
kurtisballard @ 14:08 - Monday, March 3rd, 2008 Email
yeah so far this situation has worked out perfectly for the seahawks. personally, i thought signing a one year deal was in his best interests no matter what. all he needs is one healthy season to get a really nice payday.

No, it's true. he knows the offense and the QB has confidence in him. If he wants the big money, the best ting he could do is sign a one year deal here and play a full season.
Leiser @ 14:14 - Monday, March 3rd, 2008
Is this really that surprirsing? He has had 5 CAREER 100 yard games, no seasons with over a 700 yards and his yards per catch puts him in the possession receiver category. I like him but he has not proved anything thus far in his career. A few good games doesnt net you a nice contract.
Just me @ 14:30 - Monday, March 3rd, 2008
Oh, but he is the most important thing to us!! How will we survive if he is gone? HA

He is a very talented guy, who has shown that he has a hard time staying on the field. Teams are not going to shell out for that unless, they are TO or Moss type talents - Game changer every game, every play.

He will look great in a hawks uniform again - AND HEALTHY
uk_Hawk @ 15:19 - Monday, March 3rd, 2008 Email

He's not getting big bucks now.

He will however, if he rejoins the Hawks (knows the system, knows the QB) and has a stellar year on a one year contract.

Works best for all parties.

Hmmm -- it is interesting that guys like Stallworth, Porter, Williamson have all been signed or traded so far -- I would have thought he was in the same category as those guys. Since we didn't get Crumpler, maybe the money we saved by cutting Ashworth can go to D.J. It would be a very nice surprise to this off-season if we managed to get him back for next year.
downinthegroove78 @ 15:49 - Monday, March 3rd, 2008
He is only worth a low dollar with incentives. All of those other players stay healthy. Hackett is a unproven low round draft pick. He has shown flashes but never had great expectations to start. If he signs low for short time with big incentives go for it but don't throw money at him because he is available.
CentralWA12thMan @ 15:53 - Monday, March 3rd, 2008 Email
Why does everyone think a one year deal would be best??

I know that agents don't like these...and so therefore this idea will never actually happen...but why not sign him to a 2-3 year deal loaded with performance based incentives??

However it works out, it looks like my boy D.J. could be coming back! At least the chances are much greater than I thought they were a week ago. I, for one, am glad that he had an injury plagued season last year, for this reason: if he had played all 16, and put up big enough numbers to rightfully demand big dollars, we wouldn't have had the money this off-season to sign him (thank you, Marcus).

Re-sign Hackett, draft Davis in the first round (ignore combine numbers, just watch the film on this stud), and then pick up a RB in the 2nd or 3rd round, and we'll be ready to send Holmgren off into the sunset with another ring!
downinthegroove78 @ 16:18 - Monday, March 3rd, 2008
Prove to me that one year contracts don't happen....especially if you can't name any. I will give you a hint....Look at the Super Bowl....If you have something to prove you sign short term and then try and get what you can.

And I will never be glad of another's misfortune for my own gain....

Would it be worth it if we sign him for 3 years at what he thinks he is worth and then plays in 25 of the 48 games. Hey, he got his money right?
BobbyK @ 16:55 - Monday, March 3rd, 2008 Email
If we lose him, it's no big deal. We really didn't have him last year, for the most part.

In a perfect world, we sign him and he stays healthy.

Kind of like people saying how we "lost" Crumpler. We never had him. It would have been nice, but we don't know what we don't have b/c we never had him.

I hope he comes back and puts up big numbers in '08.

the PI is reporting that Duckett is having dinner with the Seahawk coach's
Maybe we will hear something later.
IDHawkman @ 17:46 - Monday, March 3rd, 2008 Email
I am not convinced that the FO or the HC want Hackett back. Have we even floated an offer his way? I think that TR And MH are high on Obu and the other WR from the practice squad. Is there a need for Hackett? Do we really want him back taking up a roster spot when he can only play 6 of the 18 games we play? How quick should we put him on the IR list if he gets hurt in the first game again? Especially if it is a high ankle sprain which he seems to get a lot of?
hawkfanintampa @ 18:00 - Monday, March 3rd, 2008
Titans are interested in Hackett. Remember that Mike Reinfeldt was in the front office when the Seahawks drafted him. He agent could also see what the market is being set by others signing. Stallworth got 35mil @ 5yrs which 10mil is guaranted, Berrian got 42mil @ 6yrs which 16 mil is guaranted. Scary that these guys are getting this kind of jack. What really hurting the cap number is Wistrom's deal which is 4mil of dead money, nice job Tim.
IDHawkman @ 18:58 - Monday, March 3rd, 2008 Email
don't blame tim for Wistrom's deal. He was here when Tim got here and the June 1 cut tim put on him last year is what is causing the cap hit this year. Same thing everyone wants to do with SA this year. Sooner or later, you have to pay the piper.

No way does Hackett get that kind of money. The difference is that those guys played the whole season. Not just 6 games.
frozenhawk @ 19:01 - Monday, March 3rd, 2008 Email
The dead money from Wistrom's contract is thanks to the previous guy, not Ruskell.
airbags @ 19:13 - Monday, March 3rd, 2008 Email

this guy...

Actually, airbags, the Winstrom contract is Trader Bob Whitsett's fault, not Bob Ferguson's.
