Thanks Frank!

I don't know much about any of these guys, but after seeing the following video, I'm excited to hear about what Jamar Adams can do in camp.

So:
5 DBs
3 WRs
2 LBs
2 OL

Most of the Dbs are from the East (no idea where Grambling is). All the other positions are from the West or SW.

Already looking forward to the season. I think it can/will be special!

I'm so happy we'll finally have legit depth on our D-line!

I am surprised we did not draft any guards, tackles, or LBs. Don't know if we should have used a draft pick on a LS even though we needed a good one. Liked the DE and DT selections. We will see in three years how it turns out.

Interesting that they're taking a chance on Russo.

Great Blogging this weekend Frank! Thank you!

I have to say that I loved this draft and offseason.

With 20/20 hindsight :-) I think our offseason needs were:
1 - Big TE who can catch and block
2 - Badass OG
3 - Better coaching for the O-line and running game.
4 - Speed RB who can catch and block
5 - DT as insurance policy in case Tubbs or Bernard can't play.
6 - RDE to rotate with Tapp and stuff the run.
7 - FB who can move the pile on 4th and 1.
8 - WR for depth (or backup QB so Wallace can play WR)
9 - K
10 - long snapper

Looks like we got them all:
1 - Carlson
2 - Wahle
3 - Solari
4 - Jones
5 - Bryant
6 - Jackson
7 - Ducket and Schmitt
8 - Frye
9 - Mare and Coutu
10 - Schmidt

Merry Christmas Hawk fans!

whatever we think of ruskells work as GM, it seems as though he really cares about getting not only the best guys but the guys that his coaches want (in the draft at least).

Good Luck to Russo. Too bad Rankin got stuck with the Raiders.

Really wanted to see Rankin on that list.

Looking at our draft picks, I beleive most of them should and probably will make this team for depth.

Nice draft.

Something is definitely wrong with this year's draft. Seattle got the depth players they needed and the national talking heads are being overly nice in their grades:

Kiper: B
Prisco: B-

Other than many of the National guys think Seattle reached for Carlson (and think the Seahawks should have drafted Davis)and are puzzled by taking a LS, they like Bryant, Jackson, and Schmitt (the FB).

I only show 86 on the roster.

I see the problem. Seahawks.Com is still showing Jeff Robinson on their roster.

I'd like to know what Coach Willingham thinks about John Carlson. He recruited Carlson and coached him for two years before moving on to UW.

I went to YouTube and watched videos of all the draft picks the Hawks selected, and two of them stood out more then the others. The first was the John Carlson one. Carlson is a stud, he catches the ball well in traffic and I noticed multiple times that when he runs after the catch he has that football tucked in pretty hard as to avoid a fumble. Most of the footage was from Brady Quinn throwing to him, which is good because it gave me an idea of what how Carlson performs in a system with a good QB. Carlson looks like the answer to the TE dillema that the Hawks have had for many years. The next one that stood out to me was the video(s) on Owen Schmitt. This kid looks like the second coming of Mike Alstott. A real hard-nosed runner who has absolutely no fear of whoever is in front of him. He has no problem mowing over opposing defenders. All of the other videos were good two, but those stood out the most.

i watched the videos of our picks too and carlson was the only one who didnt stand out. i felt like i was watching will heller. this guy has no gamebreaking ability at all. he catches it and then gets tackled, which isnt necesarily a bad thing it just does not stand out as great. i understand he is the most ready to start and he can block and catch equally well, but he wont be going to any pro bowls, thats for sure.

I think Timmay and gang did a great job on this draft. I have been tracking 7 moch drafts durring the last couple of weeks and it is interesting to see how far off they all were to the actual selections. Then these "experts" grade our teams selections and from what I can tell it is based upon if our picks were close to what they think we should take. What a joke!
We got some good football players to compete with a very good selection of existing players. This will be one of the best training camps so far! Kudos to the organization, you got to love these guys!

I was reading below about how our new snapper was talking with New Orleans when we took him. I guess that answers the question of why we used a pick on him. Although I'm not sure how Seattle could have known about the Saints interest in him. Oh well. That's one more position locked down for a few years with a solid aquisition.

I dont see how you can say Carlson wont make any Pro Bowls.

And so what? Nowdays, the Pro Bowl TE's cant block, and are really just tall wr's. We need dudes who can do both. Plus, we have Putzier, who caught 72 passes his first two years, and who isnt THAT bad at blocking. We're set: Putzier the pass-catcher, Heller the blocker, Carlson the all-around guy.

Mack Strong only made 2 Pro Bowls, but he'd been deserving of the honor for the previous 10 years straight.

Carlson was the guy Holmgren AND Ruskell wanted, and they got him. I liked Davis and Bennett, but I'm gonna trust Ruskell and Holmy on this one. I think he may just be the throw-back TE this team has so desperately needed...along with the rest of the TO, Vick, Ocho-loving NFL...him and Owen Schmitt are gonna make us a tougher, solid offensive team.

I'm concern with the back up LB positions. I know Tatupu, Peterson, Hill are the starters but who are the back ups? This is a concern if one of our starters get hurt. Another concern is OL no lineman was taken in the draft and I think it is an area that needs to be address (possibly next year)
Permalink Comment by SupaFreak @ 10:50 - Tuesday, April 29th, 2008 Email
yellaman. Next year they will certainly draft some O-linemen, but for now, they do have a lot of guys they are high on who didn't get much time to play last year, if at all. Willis, Vallos, and Wrotto they all believe have a future actually playing, and by adding Wahle, they now have Gray as a backup too, since Sims probably slides over to the right guard spot.

They have a bunch of un-drafted rookies and UFA's on board that are mostly camp fodder, but one of two of them might stick as well.

I didn't even know that some of these guys were on the team right now, but check out the list. I am sure a couple of them are actually gone, as the list isn't fully updated, but most are here for the first mini-camp.

Yellman, it's D.D. Lewis (back with us again) as the main backup, plus Will Heller and Lance Laury. Then there's a bunch of undrafted rooks and low rent FA's on the roster, and one or two of them will be signed as special teams guys/backup LB's, no doubt.

Anyone know of any decent LB's out there in the FA ranks right now? Not necessarily awesome, but with some experience and still available?
