The Seahawks have added defensive tackle Larry Triplett, linebacker Wesley Mallard and quarterback Dalton Bell. Here is the team's release:
The Seattle Seahawks have signed defensive tackle Larry Tripplett, Wesley Mallard and claimed Dalton Bell off waivers, the club announced today.
Originally drafted in the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft (42nd overall) by Indianapolis, Tripplett played four seasons for the Colts before signing with Buffalo in 2006. In 92 career games, he has registered 195 tackles, 8.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and one interception. Tripplett, 29, attended the University of Washington.
A native of Hinesville, Georgia, Mallard attended the University of Oregon before being drafted by the New York Giants in the 6th round of the 2002 NFL Draft. Mallard has played in 59 career games, mostly on special teams.
Bell signed as an undrafted free agent with Carolina in 2007 before being released after training camp. Green Bay signed Bell on September 11, 2007 before releasing him a week later and eventually signed him again to a future contract on January 23, 2008 before placing him on waivers.
COMMENTS:
I like the Triplett signing if Tubbs isn't likely to play and he gives us an experienced and capable DT to man the rotation, if he makes the final cuts.
Mallard was former Duck safety who has transitioned to being an OLB, here's a blurb on him from the '02 draft.

Does anyone know more about him from seeing him play? We certainly are rounding up a large pile of guys ready to be S/OLB/ST players. Seems to me this is a seen by Ruskell to be an area where the depth could be improved.
Unfortunately still no OLinemen added to the pile, this to me is the area where we could be in a jam if one of our OT's gets nicked.
Also, he can fill in for Tubbs until Tubbs is ready to come off the PuP list which if it were me, I'd wait until after the bye.
The info on Tripplett is that he started all 16 games for the Buffalo Bills last year. So at least he has some experience.
Tubbs is gone, as soon as he's healthy like Alexander, that is. There is no room on this team for people who can't stay on the field.
And I think the Bernard thing is going to drag on longer than maybe the Seahawks want, plus he's going to be a free agent after this season, heck he may get cut or traded.
Now that Tripplett is signed the DT rotation should include (if Bernard is around) Mebane-Tripplett-Bryant, Bernard-Terrill. With Bernard being the odd man out. Plus Green may make this team again. I can't remember how many guys they kept (including DE's) last season with all the injuries.
No matter how you stack it up the D-line is looking very solid, can't wait.
DT: Bernard, Mebane, Terril, Bryant, Tubbs, Triplett
DE: Kearny, Jackson, Tapp, Atkins
Gotta like that going into camp. Nice job "Timmay!"

As for Bernard - it's his first offence [if indeed he is actually guilty - remember, innocent until proven...]. If the team supports him through this difficult time, he may repay that 'loyalty' with an improved level of play and a preference to remain in Seattle when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Finally, I like the selection of Red Bryant - but don't get too carried away with all the hope/hype. This kid is a rookie - and 'only' a 4th round pick at that - so let's not start believing that he's gonna come into this league and start dominating opposition guards. Sure, it would be great if it happened, but let's not "expect" it to happen in his rookie year.
How anyone can imply that simply signing Tripplett and drafting Bryant make Bernard & Tubbs expendable is ridiculous, in my opinion.
Well, if you believe SA's production was due to injuries, that could be a precedent. This is Tubbs final year of his contract and if he could get healthy it could be a good one for the Hawks. Then, next year, he gets a good contract from another team or he shows the Hawks that his injuries are done and over?
So you think this team has time to just wait and see if he can regain his former self after his injuries heal huh?? Well why don't you ask Mr. Touchdown (aka Shaun Alexander for those of you who don't know who he is, lol!!) how that worked out for him. The team gave him two seasons of injury filled production before they let him go, and Shaun was a former NFL MVP. What the hell has Tubbs done to warrant two years or more of the same treatment??.. NOTHING!!
And you are right, Bernard has not been proven guilty of anything and thats great for him and the team if he is here, but Tripplett is a good fit for this teams depth and he has been a starter in the NFL so he can play right now, that is if Bernard can not.
Last I'd like to say that no team can count on any rookie regardless of their draft status. But is things go well for Bryant like they have for Mebane, then this teams DT position is set to be very solid.
Tripplett is a 3-technique tackle and though he is not the pass-rusher Rocky is, he can stop the run as well. Tubbs is out for the start of the season, and should be back.
On opening day, I expect our starting tackles will be Tripplett rotating in with Terrill, and Mebane rotating with Bryant. Not bad, but unless Tubbs comes back healthy we may not get much pass rush from the DTs.
Of course, I am hoping Rocky is back. I just have a hunch that Ruskell will play hardball and cut him, and this is why Tripplett was signed.
