The Seattle Seahawks have re-signed veteran tackle/guard Floyd Womack to a one-year contract, the team announced this morning.

Womack, drafted by Seattle with the third of three fourth-round choices (128th overall) in the 2001 NFL Draft, has played in 76 games with 32 starts. He played in 14 games with one start last year for the Seahawks.

To make room on the roster, the team released defensive tackle Jonathan Lewis, who signed as a free agent on January 15.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.......Maybe he will get one more game in this year????
c4polar @ 10:23 - Friday, May 2nd, 2008 Email
Dead weight, Id rather they take there chances in a rookie.
jammer @ 10:41 - Friday, May 2nd, 2008 Email
This is a smart move by Ruskell!

Womack is a solid journeyman backup OT/OG and he knows our O so there will be no learning curve required. Pork Chop has played his best relief ball for the Seahawks as a backup OT, and will seemingly continue as the relief or swing tackle. The team was razor thin at OT with only Willis as a backup the pile just gets deeper and deeper.

Good job FO!!!

okay, last year, i called it dead-on when i said he'd be out by game two.

week two - pork chop out with an injury.

i'll give him until game three this year. mark my words.

Drillslinger @ 10:51 - Friday, May 2nd, 2008 Email
I think it's a decent move as long as there's space on the roster. IIRC Pork Chop can back-up just about any position on the Line.

airbags, you do not seem to be a "glass is half full" kind a guy, but I understand your point. The thing is as jammer said, he is ready to go day one with our system and he can plug into OT and OG. Yes there is a risk, but if he can stay healthy the upside is way to big to pass on him.

Do you have a prediction on M Tubbs for this year with your crystal balls?

#96 is now worn by nobody.

As it should be.
area51hawkfan @ 11:12 - Friday, May 2nd, 2008 Email
Signing the Chop is a great move only "if" and that is a BIG "if" he stays healthy, and they only use him to be a back up and for that alone is valuable beacause the dude can play every positon (but Center) well enough to start. But, the guy can't stay on the field.

I think if Willis and one of the young guys drafted last year show marked improvement in this years camp he'll be expendable, for now a solid siging. Go Chop!!
HawkFromDay1 @ 11:36 - Friday, May 2nd, 2008 Email
That makes 9-10 which is about right compared to years past:

Walt, Wahle, Spencer, Sims, Locklear; Willis, Wrotto, Gray, Chop and maybe Vallos.

Gray and Vallos would seem to be competing for the backup center spot, unless one of the young pups shows something.

joehawk - man, that was funny, thanks for the laugh!

seriously, though, i can see the upside to the matter, but with guys that are injury-prone...

i remember thinking the same about alex bannister and his balsa wood collarbones. what's he doing now? chop knows the system, yeah, but won't that change with mike solari?

if he stays healthy, great, i'm all for it. if not, i wonder if there's a clause in his contract similar to the waiver jerheme urban had in his contract during 2005.

as far as tubbs... i think this can of worms was opened a few posts ago: when he's in, the defense is brilliant.

however, when was the last time he was in a regular season game?

i just don't think that marcus tubbs has got what it takes to keep playing for much longer.

but, i do hope i'm wrong.

(they're not crystal, by the way - sterling silver)

Larry Triplett will now take on the reign of 96. Would rather him then Johnson but still no one should wear that jersey again. I'm going to start a petition to make that permanent!

TEZ lives on say NO to 96!!!
chrishuw @ 12:35 - Friday, May 2nd, 2008 Email
I wouldn't be shocked if Pork sprained his wrist signing the deal.

JoeHawk51 @ 12:38 - Friday, May 2nd, 2008 Email
Thanks for the feedback airbags. Nice of you to take the time from polishing your silver.
I just think there needs to be the attitude from the team to allow for the opportunity for those who get bit by the ingury bug to have the chance to get back in it and not just cut loose. I mean they still have to show the effort with the doctors, trainers, and coaches to earn the chance, but this is thier dream and I have enjoyed too many disney movies to not want to pull for them to get back in the trenches in a productive way.
This shows the healthy players that they are not going to be dumpted as soon as they may get hurt. I admit I have no idea how much of this is true, but I like the way Seattle takes care of this side of thier business.
airbags @ 12:52 - Friday, May 2nd, 2008 Email

joehawk, two words for you: shaun alexander.

Tompage @ 13:10 - Friday, May 2nd, 2008 Email
Airbags, technical Chop was injured in training camp, but he managed to get healthy enough to make the opening day roster.

Chop is a human hamstring pull. He gets hurt because he not in very good shape and does not stretch enough. I hope that he is a tackling dummy that we can use through training camp and one of the young guys takes the roster spot for the regular season so Chop gets cut loose.
LoafOfTattooedPoo @ 13:16 - Friday, May 2nd, 2008 Email
Not seeing how this is a bad move. Utility guy and alright when healthy. It isn't like he will be starting. In fact, I heard they signed him to play LT while Walt is recovering from his shoulder surgury. Makes sense to me.

Pork Chop is a good signing in that he is basically an insurance policy. He's probably the last man off the bench as the newer players keep rising in their abilities. He will fill in on the practice field anywhere Coach wants him. He knows the system and Solari may even help him discover some effective technique (let's hope).
JoeHawk51 @ 16:46 - Friday, May 2nd, 2008 Email
airbags, 23 words for you. How about Tedy Bruschi? He has come back from a nasty injury and played real good at a old age for a LB.

I should edit better, sorry! Plus my prediction is SA at Cincy in 2008 rushes for 1,000 plus even as the secondary back. If I am wrong, I owe you a Quest beer.
