Besides Bobby Engram and the regulars who are missing this camp, TE Jeb Putzier was the other player missing. He was walking with a slight limp.

The beginning of practice was very sloppy. Matt Hasselbeck threw an interception to Marcus Trufant, then he fumbled a snap, then a play just broke down. Gil Haskell rather than Mike Holmgren was the one who jumped all over the offense.

With Rob Sims out, the offensive line is now, right to left, Locklear, Wrotto, Gray, Wahle and Pork Chop.

[More:]

I don't know if I just happen to be catching Wrotto at the wrong time, but every time I see him in drills he is getting beat. Today I watched Chris Cooper go past him two consecutive times during pass-rushing drills. Larry Tripplett also continues to have a high motor during a lot of these drills. The D line decision should be an interesting one, and a lot of it will depend on the health of Marcus Tubbs and the status of Rocky Bernard, but Cooper and Tripplett present an interesting dilemma because they both obviously can play. Cooper has been moving between end and tackle depending on who else is out there.

Trufant seems to have picked up right where he left off. He has been making a lot of plays both during drills and during full-team workouts. I have to think it is making the younger receivers get better going against him, even if it has to be frustrating at times as well.

I love to hear about strong D-Line play. However, we'll see what happens when the pads go on. The D-Line does have an advantage when there's no pads. O-Linemen can use the pads to help with leverage and things like that. But good stuff Frank.

Wrotto is a work in progress, as he was a DL in college his first 2 years. He is probably the 4th choice, health permitting, behind Sims, Gray, and Willis.

You hate to see the O being slopy. It's Mini Camp though. They havent played football in a few months. I hope Tru can continue to play at a high level. I know Tatupu is the leader of our D. But anyone on the team can play at a high level and make the team better. Good for Tru. He got his big money its nice to see he is not just showing up and going through the motions.

That's good to hear about Trufant.

Let's hope he continues the stellar play when the games count and lives up to the contract he signed without getting complacent.

Its May.

I wonder how it will all look in November.

You didn't catch Wrotto at the wrong time. He sucks. Going against this guy will make anyone look like they can play. At least Trufant isn't doing an Alexander, get the money and lay down.

What have you seen out of Wahle at the camp? I'm hoping for him to provide a big improvement at guard for us this season.
Tatonka @ 16:30 - Tuesday, May 6th, 2008
Sorry but he's 3rd on depth chart for reason.
DJammmer @ 18:28 - Tuesday, May 6th, 2008 Email
Amen on Trufant.
You always have to worry about guys right after getting big $$$. If I knew I was guaranteed millons of dollars, regardless of my job perfomance, it would be hard to go all out. Especially if the job was mentally and physically tough.

Kudos to Tru, for being the same player as before he got paid. I think that requires a high level of personal accountability and integrity than most people (NFL or not) have in today's world!!!
HawksKD @ 23:24 - Tuesday, May 6th, 2008 Email
wheres all the retards saying we should have never paid trufant....here is a pre-emptive, calling you out to eat your words
Oldslow @ 00:25 - Wednesday, May 7th, 2008 Email
I am sorry to hear that Wrotto sucks. Is it his footwork, his strength, his explosiveness, what is the problem. I want to know, as you have some insight.
CeaYoung @ 07:17 - Wednesday, May 7th, 2008 Email
Someone actually muttered the words, "Don't pay Trufant..."?

I BURY THOSE COCKROACHES!!!

Idiots! Tru is, for lack of a better word, the TRUTH! We locked him up for basically the rest of his career and that was one of the best moves by our front office this offseason next to locking up Tatupu as well.

I am amped up beyond belief for this next season.

As for Wrotto... who cares? Heaven forbid we'll never see him in a game anyways.

What's up with some of the receiving game? With Engram acting up, it looks like we're going to need one or two of the younger guys to show up this year.
Tatonka @ 09:00 - Wednesday, May 7th, 2008
Completely disagree on the Wrotto sucks! It's not his fault the Hawks drafted him to play on the OL with ONLY one year of experience. Move him to D where he belongs...if he can't make the transition back, then you can criticize.
RichmondHawk @ 11:36 - Wednesday, May 7th, 2008 Email
Wrotto's bad plays may be the case of getting under coached. Levorotti sure hasn't done much with Sims/Spencer/Willis. Hopefully Solari can develop these guys.
RichmondHawk @ 11:39 - Wednesday, May 7th, 2008 Email
If Tru can be regarded at the end of next season as one of the best CB's in the league, I'll give him his due. But I refuse to say he's the best after only one excellent season.
klm008 @ 16:27 - Wednesday, May 7th, 2008 Email
If Solari hasn't got Wrotto's head around perfect 1st string OL play yet, it might be just a little bit premature to give up on him. He's got a lot of schooling to get through and it's been a very short time. Maybe we can wait a bit and see if he repeats mistakes? Last year Hawks needed run-stuffing help and it might have made some sense to switch Wrotto to LDT, but this year, its early and the need is for OL help.

What's wrong with Ray Willis?
