Press release from the Seahawks:

Kirkland, Wash. – The Seattle Seahawks have released center Chris White and signed wide receiver Chas Gessner, the team announced this morning.

Gessner originally entered the league as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 2, 2003 with the New England Patriots and has spent time with the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe (2004), the New York Jets (2004) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2006-07). He made his NFL debut last season with Tampa Bay vs. Arizona (11/4).

A two-time Walter Payton Award finalist as the nation’s top Division I-AA player, Gessner also was a standout performer on Brown’s lacrosse team.

White originally signed with Seattle as a free agent on January 15, 2008.

Gessner was signed because his DUI makes Lofa's DWI look tame by comparison

"TAMPA - A former Buccaneers player was arrested this morning for driving under the influence. According to an arrest affidavit: Tampa police stopped Charles Louis Gessner near Tampa Street and Kennedy Boulevard for driving the wrong way down a one-way street. Gessner admitted to drinking three bottles of beer. Breath tests showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.222 and 0.227." - Tampa Tribune

If they once played for the Bucs or the Falcons, do they automatically get signed by the Seahawks?

When I first read about this signing my impression was like Joe Pesci's in "My Cousin Vinny":

"My gosh, timmy, you found it!! The Missing link!!! Why didn't I see it before? The case is solved, we're going to the Superbowl." Etc. etc.

I took the liberty of replacing a couple of words to make sense of the context here.

How funny. Now watch, he'll have a pivotal play at some point this season.

Sounds to me like we just didn't have enough players to go out in pass routes at practice.
Holmgren called for a three wide set and they had to put Frank in the slot.
Odds on Gessner making team?

Syndro - you're laughable. I'm sure had the info Frank provided at your fingertips. Maybe you can tell us what Gessner had for breakfast this morning...
