The Seahawks released former UW WR Anthony Russo, who has missed the last few days of mini-camp with some undisclosed injury, and signed Trent Shelton.

Shelton, 6-0, 202 pounds, came into the NFL with Indy as a rookie free agent, spending the first two weeks of the 2007 season on the practice squad before being released. Apparently the team just ripped Russo's name off the back of his jersey and velcroed (sp?) Shelton's because Shelton is wearing the same No. 17 that Russo vacated.

Here's some stuff from college:

2006: Fifth-year senior Trent Shelton, Baylor's No. 1 X receiver, enters his final Green and Gold season ranked No. 6 on the Bears' career reception (102) chart and No. 12 on the school's all-time receiving yards (1,176) list ... The 2006 All-Big 12 candidate has recorded at least one reception in 33 consecutive games, the longest such string for a Bear since Reggie Newhouse ended his career with a school-record 34-game streak that spanned the 2000, 2001 and 2002 seasons ... Shelton's 33-game string, which ranks as the nation's fourth-longest entering the 2006 campaign, includes 27 multi-reception efforts.

2005: Started all 11 games for the Bears to earn his third letter and had at least one catch in every contest ... His 39 receptions ranked No. 3 on the team, while his 452 receiving yards stood as the squad's second-best mark ... Averaged 11.6 yards per reception to rank No. 2 on the squad among Bears with at least 10 receptions ... Ranked No. 20 in Big 12 in receptions per game (4.00 rpg) and No. 23 in receiving yards per outing (41.09 ypg) ... 24 of his receptions on the year came away from Waco ... Caught at least two passes in each of his last 10 starts as a junior with a season-best six receptions for 52 yards at Oklahoma ... Also hauled in five passes three times--vs. Samford (for 54 yards), at Army (for a career-best 84 yards) and at Missouri (for 48 yards) ... Lone touchdown reception was a 3-yard third-quarter grab from Shawn Bell at Texas A&M ... Had three receptions of 40-plus yards on season, one of which was a 52-yarder vs. Nebraska which was fumbled into the end zone and recovered for a touchdown by teammate Dominique Zeigler ... Played 653 snaps.

2004: Played in all 11 games as a sophomore and started four contests with at least one reception in every outing ... Ranked No. 3 on the squad in receptions (38), touchdown receptions (four), receiving yards (426) and yards per catch (11.2 ypc) ...

On paper, we have to have one of the lowest rated WR corp in the league. Just like last year with the safety position and this year with the running game I smell an overhaul coming in 2009 for the WR's

ZDOGG,

Bumpus looks good. He had a nice catch today that drew some oohs and ahhs. He is always making plays. He won't make the team, but has been a pretty good pickup.

dhardw,

I don't think an overhaul is necessary for the WR's. If Taylor, Payne, and Obiwan are as good as the coaches seem to think they can be then that is a solid (maybe not GREAT, but solid) WR corps for years to come.

How many pro-bowls did DJack make in his time here? This offence thrives on solid possession type receivers with good hands. It doesn't need a T.O., Chad Johnson, or Fitzgerald to be a good WR group.

Frank... given the personnel (especially Hasselbeck) do you expect Mora to stay with the West Coast offense when his time comes?
