First, Mike Holmgren was not at practice. According to the PR staff, he had a "minor medical procedure" and will be at tomorrow's practice. Though the procedure was minor, they still chose not to disclose what the "procedure" was.
With Big Show a No Show, no, it was not Jim Mora running the practice -- unless he was able to disguise it from the secondary, where he remained the entire practice. Gil Haskell ran practice, which once again was under cold, gray skies and in the rain. Hard to believe it is 90 degrees elsewhere in the country because these practices have been miserable. The result has been that there has been a lot of slipping and sliding, particularly by the wide receivers in drills with the defensive backs. Mora was imploring his players to keep playing through the entire play even if a receiver went down.
Marcus Tubbs was actually doing some individual work today, hopping on one leg and doing some light running. He came off the field after about 20 or 30 minutes, but he was smiling and indicated it was a step in the right direction for his rehab.
Rob Sims also took part in some team drills today, the first time since he had knee surgery. Mike Solari switched things up today, with Sean Locklear moving to left tackle, Ray Willis at right tackle and Sims at right guard.
Nate Burleson had a really good day, which was good since I spoke with him afterwards for a story in tomorrow's News Tribune. He basically said he is trying to keep it light-hearted for the young guys because there is so much talk about them needing to contribute that he doesn't want them to feel the pressure. He said he is ready to step into the role of primary receiver, in part because with nine TDs last season he proved that he is a capable big-play receiver.
He had not heard about Bobby Engram's latest statement that he might miss training camp. He stuck by his original statement that Engram is so experienced that he doesn't need to be there. I made the Allen Iverson point that it is not so much that he needs to be there as it is perhaps his teammates need him there, if for no other reason than to define what everybody's role is. Burleson said he is trying to stay away with Engram's problems with management. WR coach Keith Gilbertson said he can only coach the players in camp and can't worry about who is not there. Things always work themselves out, though, Gilby pointed out.
C.J. Wallace was not present. Wallace had an appendectomy 11 days ago in Sacramento. LB Lance Laury also was not present, though no reason was given for his absence. Ryan Plackemeier also left the field early with an undisclosed injury.
The two kickers hit all their attempts during special teams drills.
COMMENTS:
1) Walter Jones age has been reported wrongly all these years he is really only 27 and his shoulders have actually shown a remarkable healing capacity leaving them stronger than ever.
2) Matt Hasselbeck, due to a new spiritual awakening, will be injury free during the remainder of his Seahawk tenure.
3) Should Matt have to take a game off to attend Sunday services, never fear the backup QB, Seneca, had lifts inserted in his cleats which improves his 40 time and adds 5 inches to his height.
4) And behind these two is the QB of the future who already possesses the requisite necessary Seahawk experience – he knows how to lose big to Pittsburgh.
5) Solari will have the “O” Line playing like the ’05 Hawks, not the ’07 Hawks, because we know that the previous Hawks OLine coach’s abilities to coach declined over those two years. From the SuperBowl to the DogBowl – happens to all coaches.
6) It is not true that every draft pick was taken 25 slots above where they could have been taken, it was really only 20 slots above.
7) The Hawks actually set a few records in the draft – highest rounds a FB and LS have been taken in modern NFL – something to be really proud of.
8) TJ Duckett is poised for his fourth career breakout year in new surroundings. I trust you can get the copy to cut and paste from one of your colleagues at his last three stops.
9) Five back-up RBs really do equal 2.5 featured backs, just as soon as the rule change which allows a team without a feature back to have 12.5 offensive players on the field.
10) Finally, as we all know the most important requisite is that quantity is important so a two headed head coach will certainly be twice as good (or is it four times better if we square it?) as one head coach.
Frank, you failed to mention the most important aspect of today’s workout – what flavor was that KoolAid they served you?
Sounds like a french hamburger... le bigmaq? Seriously? We know... We know... its because of the metric system right?
Take your french, bitch-made, ass back across the pond and give up writing unfunny posts that took you days muster up. I know... it takes a while to proof-read, use the thesaurus to sound intelligent, and spell-check words like requisite and flavor. It's hard, I know... in your land, I believe its flavour? That must have just had your peanut rattling around in the pencil thin mustached head of yours.
Nothing you mentioned was even relevant to what Frank had to say. What the hell were you even talking about when you decided to bless us with your feeble post?
Stick to foosball and leave big boy FOOTBALL alone. No floppers and emmy award condidates here buddy... you're far out of your realm I'd say.
There actually are some really funny statements in your list however.
I love the one about "lifts" in Seneca's cleats! Oh man! That was a knee slapper for sure! I guess you were trying to stay away from cliche rocket boosters or springs. Lifts? Again... seriously?
12.5 and 2.5... Oh! The metric system again? Good one... you frenchies always were really funny to me even when you make no sense. But then again... it's not how funny you are, but how funny you look right? I'm sure you have that angle fully covered.
Nice job le bigmaq... nice job.
