Of the guys I caught up with, Lawrence Jackson has been the least interested, giving mostly rote answers. Of course, as a few people have pointed out, joining the NFL is actually probably a step down from USC, and he's still adjusting.

I know you're trying to get out of here. How did this mini-camp go? I think technique-wise things are starting to slow down, I am able to see my progressions clearly. The first week I made improvements from the first mini-camp, and this week I made improvements from last week in terms of using my hands and being a football player.

What are your plans between now and training camp? Just work on everything I can do to get better.

You're not going to just try to get away? No, I got a lot of stuff I have to hop on.

You are coming back to Seattle when? July 22.

So you will just spend the rest of the time in LA working out? Yeah.

[More:]

I saw you had your number retired at your high school the other day. How was that? It was good. It was surprising the way it turned out. I knew it was going to be a nice ceremony, but they just put it together really well, and just to have it is an honor.

You've been working some in this camp in the nickel package, where they slide you down from end to tackle. How has that been working out? I don't mind that, that is what I am used to doing. I played end and I played 3 technique in certain situations, so I am used to it.

Which one do you prefer? It doesn't matter. Sometimes playing the tackle is better, sometimes playing the end is better, depending on what type of offense you are facing.

Well the kid sure isn't going to make the all interview team his first year. Let's hope he's the type that lets his play do the talking.

Frank Hughes: "Of course, as a few people have pointed out, joining the NFL is actually probably a step down from USC, and he's still adjusting."

Ha! Funny. His days with the mighty Trojans are gone forever. Now he has to resign himself to a life in the football equivalent to the PGA seniors tour.

But playing for USC is nothing. What greater accolade could a man ask for then to have his number retired at his former high school. Al Bundy would be very jealous.

In defense of his brevity - Frank indicates in his first question that LoJack had limited time.

If he continues to play as reliably as he did though his entire college career I think we'll see quite a few LoJack jerseys in the crowds soon enough.

Frank got the questions in bold right this time, Snydro will be pleased.

"--joining the NFL is actually probably a step down from USC, and he's still adjusting." Good one Frank!

Hey Frank, thank you for finally getting the highlighting correct...Just a style suggestion here, you may want to make the responses in bold, not the questions. It's usually better to emphasize the responses to questions, not the questions themselves.
williambryan @ 11:20 - Sunday, June 22nd, 2008 Email
at least he didn't answer the questions with a bunch of fluff, cliche, sports answers.

I remember at the combine they said how great he was with the media, I saw him on NFL network and he looked like a deer in the headlights.

I'm just glad to have actual fooball news. His answers were enjoyable, if not spectacular. What do you expect from a rookie defensive end?
johneerocket @ 15:53 - Sunday, June 22nd, 2008 Email
Thanks Frank, the interviews are much more readable. I look forward to the entries you put on this site, things I don't find anywhere else. It helps with the wait as I eagerly anticipate next season. Keep up the good work.

nardman suggested putting "the responses in bold, not the questions. It's usually better ....."

Technically I agree, but the answers are usually longer than the questions and bold type is really hard to read. Maybe italics or a different font?

Good job, Frank. Very good job overall.

I don't blame him at all -- as indicated in the first question, he was strapped for time.

I know when I'm leaving from work the last thing I would want to do would be answer some boring questions from Frank Hughes, or any reporter for that matter.
Houston_Dawg @ 06:01 - Monday, June 23rd, 2008 Email
Who cares how he answers the questions..., as long as he produces on the field. He can grunt for all I care as long as he sacks the QB on a regular basis.

GO HAWKS!!

Interesting comments from Frank. In the Pro Football Weekly Draft Guide, it was noted that Jackson displayed somewhat of a prima donna attitude turning team interviews at the Combine, and seemed to be a bit of a "me" guy.

Take that with a grain of salt as PFW did not really give a source, and it was just a small blurb about that. But it is interesting to see this latest post from Frank, which is consistent with that PFW comment.

Maybe he just doesn't like reporters. Maybe he's a real "us" kind of a guy under more ordinary circumstances.
