The column out of me today will be about this being Holmgren's last round-up. He joked about it a little after practice, saying he had to have a little talk with himself about not getting too emotional or too nostalgic. He conceded he'd probably have some issues with that toward the end of the season.

Now, on to the team. Seeing first-round pick Lawrence Jackson on the field was a positive. When asked about tight end John Carlson not being at practice, he gave his usual response. Rookies can't afford to miss time. That's especially true of a kid who's expected to be the opening-day starter.

The usual suspects were on the sideline: Tubbs, Branch, Herring and Plackemeier.

[More:]

Big Walt, Spencer, Kerney, Willis, etc., will be what Holmgren called "limited." Mostly, it's guys coming off surgeries who will be babied in their return. The goal with Tubbs, in particular, is to have him ready for the regular season.

Big plays: Kelly Jennings made a great move on the ball and pulled in a sideline interception in drills. The best catch of the day in drills came from Michael Bumpus, who went horizontal for a sideline reception. T.J. Duckett looked a little leaner and quicker than in minicamp. It's obvious from the start that they're going to try to consider both Mo Morris and Julius Jones as starters at halfback. On one play, Hasselbeck found none of the primary receivers and checked down to Jones on a short pass over the middle. Jones pulled it in nicely. This, of course, was not a strength of Shaun Alexander and could be a nice fall-back option for Hasselbeck.

Another high-energy performer was DT Brandon Mebane. He's showing the same sort of motivation he did last year when he came in and made waves as a rookie.

The offensive line coaching duo of Mike Solari and Mike DeBord will be the topic for a column soon, so I'm not going to use all my material, but the energy and coaching they bring should have a big impact.
