It wouldn't be training camp without Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren letting off some steam, right?

A fuming Holmgren let loose on the team this morning, using some colorful language we can't repeat here. Holmgren was upset with the pace of practice during 7-on-7 and team drills, which included some dropped passes and missed assignments, and felt the offense was playing tentatively.

Not a big deal, really. This happens during training camp when guys get dead legs from all of the running, particularly in a morning practice on a chilly day when it's hard to get going. And the guys seemed to finish things on a strong note.

However, there was some gasps from the sidelines when Matt Hasselbeck limped off the field on the second-to-last play during team drills.

Hasselbeck's plant leg seemed to buckle on a three-step drop and he dropped the ball and yelped in pain. I'm not sure if Hasselbeck got his foot stepped on or just rolled his ankle, but he seemed OK after practice.

Some other observations from the first day of full contact.

[More:]

-- Julius Jones picked up linebacker Wesley Mallard on an inside blitz with an audible thud, something usually unseen from a halfback around here.

-- Josh Wilson continues to impress, making a couple nice plays and deflecting balls in pass coverage.

-- After struggling the first few days of camp punter Reggie Hodges boomed several long punts during special teams drills. Ryan Plackemeier might want to get healthy.

-- TE John Carlson made a couple nice catches down field, although safety Deon Grant let up on a potential hit on a seam route down the middle that would have at least had Carlson seeing stars for 30 seconds. Carlson also has a nickname -- New Money.

-- With Chris Spencer and Chris Gray unable to go, the Hawks are breaking in a new center, second-year guard Mansfield Wrotto. And the Georgia Tech product didn't look bad in his first action. He's got a nice base on pass blocking and moves his feet well.

-- Mike Wahle is the real deal, and basically stuffed all comers in pass-blocking drills.

-- Logan Payne continued his vacuum cleaner routine, sucking in every ball thrown to him. Two of the nicer catches included what looked like an impressive, one-handed catch on a go route over Josh Wilson that the defensive coaches waved off. Payne also wrestled a ball away from Marcus Trufant on an underthrown go route from Hasselbeck.

-- Patrick Kerney suited up but left the practice field early with an undisclosed injury and did not return. Darryl Tapp got the nod at right end and Lawrence Jackson replaced Kerney at left end during team drills, with Brandon Mebane and Rocky Bernard lining up inside. Offensively on the line with Spencer and Gray out, Walter Jones and Floyd Womack played left tackle, Wahle was at left guard, Steve Vallos played center, and Rob Sims (right guard) and Sean Locklear (right tackle) manned the right side.
