This was a very light, short practice because of an abundance of injuries. They highlight the day, so let's run through them first.

* Cornerback DeMichael Dizer has a torn ACL and needs surgery.
* Kyle Williams banged up his knee and is likely out for 3-4 days.
* Jordan Babineaux injured his knee, is getting an MRI today and his status will be re-evaluated.
* Pork Chop Womack hurt his knee and is having an MRI.
* Logan Payne cracked a rib and is out until it heals. The only thing to do is rest it.
* Nu'u Tafisi hurt his ankle and is likely out 3-4 days.
* Matt Castelo hurt his knee.
* Eric Wicks has a quad contusion.

Courtney Taylor was back at practice but took part only in the drills. He said he will do drills this afternoon, then he wants to come back full-on tomorrow morning in preparation for Friday's game in Minnesota. He said he was ready to come back a few days ago but they are being cautious with him. But he sounded very jazzed to be back and playing.

[More:]

Mike Holmgren said the Pork Chop injury hurts because it does not allow them to go as easy on Walter Jones as they would have liked. The 80-man roster is starting to take its toll because they don't have the extra bodies to throw out there.

Holmgren said a decision has not yet been made on how they will play their veterans against the Vikings. Some of that will be dictated by injuries. But Holmgren said they usually have a formula and they are hoping to be able to stick pretty closely to the formula for who plays how many series.

Of Logan Payne, Holmgren said he will have to let the rib heal, wrap it up and learn to take the pain while learning how to breathe. There is nothing else to do for it. D.D. Lewis by the way was the one who laid the hit on Payne. To his credit, he went back into the game and caught some passes.

This morning's practice was very light, in helmets and shells, which is what this afternoon will be. It was drills, followed by play-running. Seneca Wallace made a couple of very nice passes to the sidelines about 20 yards out, placing the ball between a couple of defenders, but there was not much else to report. Pretty mundane. Matt Hasselbeck had to take some time out to get his left ankle re-taped, residual soreness from getting his foot stepped on last week perhaps. otherwise, that was the excitement for the day. We'll be back in the afternoon to detail that practice.

We have some players that clearly have no idea how to stay healthy.

Good god! Well, Pork Chop sounds like he's headed back to his natural habitat. Hope Babs knee is nothing serious. Both sides of the line are getting crushed.

Womack, Tubbs, Cooper, Bryant, Tripplett, Jones, Gray, Tatupu, Spencer, Tubbs, Branch, Plackemeier, Kerney, all either hurt or not able to practice or missing practices and we haven't even played a single preseason game. Apparently nobody left that can snap the ball more than twice in a row without a miscue and way too many inexperienced receivers. I could be imagining things but it sure seems the last two or three years we are spending a lot of time and hope on players that are always hurt or recovering or just too damn old. I hope I'm just having an over dramatic moment here cuz I really don't have a very optimistic view of this season as of right now.

Maybe Jordan Babineaux should be more worried about stretching and warming up during the pregame than dancing to the thug music playing on the PA system as he was at the scrimmage while the rest of the players were stretching.

I think we have to look on the bright side and think of all the experience the guys that are health are going to get over the next few weeks. We might even find a few supprises.

Pork Chop is injured... shocking, just shocking. The line is a big need in next years draft and I'm guessing when rosters get cut we'll see some more line signings even if to the practice squad.

With the signing of the new backup center, I don't see the line as in all that bad of shape for the next few yeears:

Sims (3rd year), Spencer (4th year), Wrotto (2nd year), Vallos (2nd year), Willis (4th year), Locklear (5th year), Robinson( rookie), Williams (2nd year) are all pretty young.

The only ones that need to be looked at for age and injuries are Gray (16th year), Jones (13th year) Wahle (11th year), and Womack (8th year of continious injuries).

Offensive linemen traditionally have some of the longest careers in football so that core of young talent has around 10 years to develop together.

Every year the team brings in one or two young linemen.

"We have some players that clearly have no idea how to stay healthy."

Uh, yeah, maybe they should try NOT playing football....
