Mike Holmgren said this game was the perfect outcome: it was nice to get a win but also a good teaching tool because there were a lot of mistakes that were made that need to be worked on. Holmgren sounded as if he was not pleased with coverage by the defensive backs, especially the first unit; he also said there were some communication issues with the coaches that hurt the team during the game. He said he thought the running game did very well, center Steve Vallos did well and he liked the tempo of the first-team offense led by Matt Hasselbeck.

[More:]

Vallos said he was just happy to be playing in a game, and he thought he did pretty well all things considered. Matt said Vallos was a little slow on his line calls but Matt adjusted to that and made his reads accordingly. Owen Schmitt said he thought the first team did great but he personally said he needs to make a lot of improvements. He did say he had messed up the formation on that touchdown in pass in the second half. He said he needs to get in better shape and he needs to learn the offense better.

Howard Green said he never had an interception before, and he thought this was a great game for him to solidify his chance at making the team. Maurice Morris, as is usually the case, did not say much other than some predictable sound bites about the offene staying consistent. Did not get a chance to interview John Carlson, who left the locker room early to see family, which lives about 67.3 miles or so away.

That's about it for me right now. I have to finish up my game story, which I'll post on the blog after I'm done.

Oh yeah, one other thing. Will Robinson hurt his right ankle, was the only really significant injury. Holmgren said Bobby Engram and Hasselbeck both have sore backs, otherwise they left the game healthy.
