There’s not much going today with most teams holding light practices over the weekend. But I managed to dig up a few tidbits worth checking out this morning.

Seattle Seahawks

Here's a short feature I wrote for today on ex-WSU receiver Michael Bumpus. While probably on the outside looking in with the rest of talented, young players in the competition at receiver, Bumpus has looked good so far in camp.

Scott Johnson of the Everett Herald takes a look at some unheralded players who have made an impact so far in camp, including Howard Green, David Hawthorne and Jamar Adams.

Mike Kahn checks in with an overview of how the Seahawks training camp is going so far, along with five keys to the team’s success this season.

[More:]

San Francisco 49ers

In an expected move, the 49ers sign Takeo spikes and release struggling Brandon Moore to make room for Spikes on the roster. The two-time Pro Bowler was released by Philadelphia after playing just one year there, as the Eagles went with younger alternatives at linebacker.

Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports that coach Mike Nolan could be interested in an upgrade at quarterback, but that no one out there has peaked his interest yet.

Arizona Cardinals

Kent Somers of the Arizona Cardinals suggests that Arizona players might not want the rest of the league to know, but there’s a quiet feeling in camp among the team that they might be pretty good this season.

Anquan Boldin competed in practice on Sunday for the first time in two weeks and appears OK.

Boldin says he expects to play Saturday at Kansas City.

St. Louis Rams

After giving up 340 yards on the ground against the Titans, Rams coach Scott Linehan has his defense working on stopping the run this week.

St. Louis rookie cornerback Justin King is out for the season after tearing a ligament in is big toe.

Puyallup native Dane Looker had a good game against the Titans, finishing with four catches for 73 yards.

CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco takes a look at the Rams in this team report.

yes, kent, the cardinals will be great this year. they'll win the division, and have home-field advantage throughout. they'll go to tampa, win the super bowl, and we will forever hold them in the highest regard.

right. and maybe a big bag of money with dollar signs printed on the side will fall out of the sky, land in front of me, and i'll bring pro basketball back to seattle.

suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure!!!!

Here's a link that someone on another forum offered up earlier. It has a "I kid you not" factor to it. Wahle ranks as the 6th best guard in the nfl. Ahead of Kris Dielman:

"6. Mike Wahle, Seattle Seahawks. At 6-6, 304, Wahle is lean and athletic with long arms. That didn't necessarily fit the mold of the Panthers' power game, which is how Wahle got to Seattle. His athleticism will be put to much better use with the 'Hawks. While he can move, he can also play with leverage and create movement off the line. He also plays with a mean streak that makes him tough to shake. He can also fill in at tackle when needed. "

Can't wait for the morning practice report. But there is one thing I'd like to see this week: Chris Spencer getting in a uniform and actually pretending he plays football......sheesh.

Last time he sustained a back injury while recovering from shoulder surgery. The amazing part is he didn't even step on the field. He'll never get the nickname "Pork Chop" but if he keep going like this something like "Lamb Chop" would be appropriate.

I know Vallos didn't have to go against the Williams' too much in Minnesota, but I was happy with what I saw. We keep talking about Spencer and his potential, but the fact is that he has been a bad NFL center the last two years and this is already his 4th year in the league; plus, he seems to hurt this and that (although, unlike Pork Chop, he mostly plays through the ailments).

I think the Seahawks win the division handily (by at least 3 games) but that said, it seems entirely possible that Arizona could be one of the wildcard teams. I would love that to happen, if for no other reason than to improve the NFC West image and to watch Minnesota and Dallas (probably won't happen with Dallas but hope springs eternal) sit home missing the playoffs.

Mentioning Wahle reminds me of the rumors that Solari was installing a zone blocking scheme. I presume that rumor has now been put to rest?

Spencer is a certifiable bust. Right now I'd trade him for a six pack of Michelob and a one armed receiver.
