Seahawks Insider

After leading the Seahawks on what could be their game-winning drive, Charlie Frye suffered a knee injury that has knocked him out of the game. Seneca Wallace currently is in the game. No word on how serious Frye's injury is.

Also, Justin Forsett just fumbled the ball and the Chargers recovered.

OK, I'm following this on-line. How bad did Frye's injury look?
SharkHawk @ 19:49 - Monday, August 25th, 2008 Email
Not bad. Holmgren still sucks at clock management... even during the preseason. How come he didn't challenge that non-TD?
spadycs @ 19:52 - Monday, August 25th, 2008 Email
I know this is preseason and it shouldn't matter - and we still had a chance to win - but I hate to lose on a bad pass interference call.

Hester pushed the ball across. He unfortunately was never down since he was laying on top of other players. They stopped his body but he just pushed the ball out with his arms after they were all piled up
optimistichawkfan @ 20:00 - Monday, August 25th, 2008 Email
Anybody else hurt tonight?
madpunter88 @ 20:03 - Monday, August 25th, 2008 Email
I think after the bad PI call Holmgren just wanted to get out of the game. He liked the fact the the Chargers were going for 2. Win or lose but the last thing anyone wants is OT and more chance for injury.
TechWorlds @ 20:03 - Monday, August 25th, 2008 Email
I dont think there are challenges during the preseason.
marcyun @ 20:09 - Monday, August 25th, 2008 Email
the ESPN announcers mentioned Tatupu had a "sprained knee." hope that's not the case, or it's only a mild sprain...

Frye looked really excellent tonight - hope his knee is ok. despite the shaky performance last week, i always had a good feeling about the kid. i mean, he was thrown into the starting role in Cleveland without sufficient development, so of course he would be pretty wobbly. but he's got a great arm (i've never see Matt make those kind of crisp deep throws), and appears to have a good head, and with a year of Holmgren under the belt i think he's starting to look like a real QB - you could tell towards the end of the last game he just needed time to settle into his comfort zone. i think we might be seeing Seneca at WR after all...

How bad did Forsett himself with that fumble today!!
CYRREEN @ 20:33 - Monday, August 25th, 2008 Email
I always knew that Frye is for real and he will be the eventual replacement for Hass. Go Frye............Our future superbowl QB is in the house and learning to be the next Seahawks great QB.

In your face Browns......Hahhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh
jmreid8 @ 20:33 - Monday, August 25th, 2008 Email
The best thing Charlie Frye did tonight is not turn the ball over, I was impressed with his decision making and pleased with his pocket presence and ability to scramble. Is anybody else pissed about that weak pass interference call? I'm tired of the seahawks getting the short end of the stick on ticky tacky calls when the defender is going for the ball- it happens way too often. The goal line run looked similar to the Ben Rothlesburgers Non Score in the '05 super bowl - bs all around. The seahawks owned the stat board and out played san diego in every aspect, I'm glad it wasn't a regular season game, but never the less it would be nice to get the team used to the feeling of winning on the road. At home we win by 10.
thedude @ 20:35 - Monday, August 25th, 2008
marcyun-you've never seen matt make those deep crisp throws? have you seen his last two pro bowl seasons or did you just get off the boat?
marcyun @ 20:46 - Monday, August 25th, 2008 Email
thedude - i've watched as many games the last few seasons as i can (i live in the Northeast so it's tough), and of course i catch all the highlights on sportscenter, nfl.com, etc. etc... Matt has never struck me as an especially dangerous deep passer. perhaps that's due to the lack of a true deep threat WR (ah, i still wax nostalgic for those wobbly bombs from Dave Kreig to Brian Blades) - i mean, who was our last real raw speed threat, Galloway? and don't get me wrong i think Matt is one of the top 5-6 QB's in the league. but his deep balls are more about touch than power - Elway of Favre he's not. it seems pretty obvious that Frye's got a gun of an arm though, that while not quite in that league, has got a bit more juice than Matt's. of course, none of that matters if you can't be accurate, but i think Frye's got promise in that regard too. just my humble opinion though...
jmreid8 @ 21:02 - Monday, August 25th, 2008 Email
Marcyun - What about Jackson, Juravicious, Obamanu, branch they were/are all deep threat recievers, and Kent has track star speed so he's definitely a burner with deep threat potential (assuming he makes the team) and Hasselbeck can and has made any NFL throw you could ask of him. However our offense is not reckless like some teams that heave the ball 50-60 yards down the feild once a series (we saw some of that tonight with san diego) Holmgren likes to run quick hitting routes producing long drives and controling the clock and tempo of the game and in turn giving our defense rest and wearing down the opposing team. This is a strategy it has nothing to do with Matts inability to throw the deep ball. With that said you will see the hawks take the accasional down feild attempt and with a high success rate becuase we set it up with shorter routes.
marcyun @ 21:10 - Monday, August 25th, 2008 Email
i dunno - while all of those guys are excellent receivers (well, except Obamanu and Kent - they are still unproven) - they're never going to burn you deep down the field with their raw speed. which is fine - like you say, the Holmgren offense is not about launching ICBM's every first down. and don't get me wrong, Matt has a *great* arm. i just get the impression that Charlie has a bit more raw power, which could come in handy someday...

My thoughts on tonight:

1. Frye looked surprisingly good. He may pass Seneca for #2, if he isn't seriously injured.

2. Regarding Forsett, I almost had the feeling Holmgren is trying to create a self fulfilling prophecy, I didn't get that Forsett was put in a position to succeed tonight. Someone (Ruskell?) needs to convince Holmgren we need to keep JF for the long term.

3. Our starting D line looked HORRID.

4. Re: Duckett: Is it that our 3rd string O line will make any RB look good against any 3rd string d line, or have we been unfair to Duckett?

5. No 2 Fullback sets during the regular season, Mike.

6. Again regarding the future, if Holmgren wants Mare, can we stash Curteau (sorry for the spelling) on IR for the season?

7. I have a bad feeling about injuries this year... We just can't take any more. If Lofa's really hurt, we're screwed.

I hate Monday Night Football. They seem to forget there's an actual game going on......
Ray @ 22:10 - Monday, August 25th, 2008 Email
Moo: I really like this Monday night crew, especially Jaws.

Then I like listening to Hugh Millen on KJR the rest of the week for more critical analysis of the game. Hard core football, so to speak.
mister andersen @ 23:27 - Monday, August 25th, 2008 Email
The fumble puts Forsett on the practice squad. TJ proved his worth, we will see him in the 4th quarter all year long baby.

Ruskell, go get us a WR and let's get this season started!!!

I'll be praying for Lofa tonight.
STTBM @ 09:51 - Tuesday, August 26th, 2008
marcyun--kent is our new deep threat, and youre right, we havent had a true deep threat since Galloway. Koren Robinson could have been one, but his alcoholism and general immaturity ruined that. Jackson was a fine all-around WR, but not a true deep threat.

You are also right in that Matt Hasselbeck has poor accuracy and little touch on the deep ball. Most of his passes are either short, or hang in the air too long and arent on target. His bread and butter is the short-to-medium throws, which he is very good at. Some of the problem must be due to not having a legitimate deep threat at WR, but most of it is that Matt simply isnt very good at deep balls.

Frye has nice touch on those deep passes, and will improve. Matt is likely a finished product. Seneca has really nice touch on deep passes, and a rocket arm, but needs to work on short-to-medium accuracy.

None of this means Hasselbeck isnt a top 10 or maybe even top 5 qb, because he is that.
