The rookie running back was getting a lot of carries with the first unit during Wednesday's practice and he should get a pretty good opportunity to win a spot on the roster. He was getting in a lot of work with Owen Schmitt as the lead blocker, which is a funny looking pairing given their respective size. Forsett said afterward that he is looking forward to the opportunity and just wants to take advantage of his chances.

We also spoke with Logan Payne afterward, who is another bubble guy who probably needs to have a good game to make the team. He kind of laughed when I asked him if it was frustrating that all the balls thrown to him seemed like they were either high, off-target or a defensive back was there to make the play. But, he said, no excuses, he has to make the plays when he gets his opportunities.

Mike Holmgren seemed a bit lukewarm when I asked him if Jordan Kent surprised him by how productive he has been in the preseason. Holmgren basically said Kent has gotten more touches than anybody else. Not sure how to read that, whether that means Holmgren was telling his QBs to throw elsewhere and they didn't or what. I was a bit surprised he was not more complimentary of Kent.

Brandon Coutu was back at practice. The thing that it looks like to me is that Mare's ball seems to explode off his foot, while Coutu's seems to float more. It doesn't jump like Mare's. There was a stiff breeze blowing today, and both kickers came up about 10 yards short on 45-yard kicks. Ryan Plackemeier just stood up laughing after the balls fell well short. Holmgren had them move up four yards, and with the wind dying down they both made their kicks.

As I mentioed in the earlier post, there were a lot of interceptions today. One popped through Joe Newton's hands and into the hands of Jordan Babineaux. Lance Laury picked one off in the end zone, leading Mike Holmgren to yell at him not to come out. Kevin Hobbs also had an interception. Dallas Sartz had a nice play to knock down a Bell pass in 7-on-7 drills, and David Hawthorne also made a nice play to punch away a pass by Bell. Bell did connect on two deep TD throws, one to Bryan Gilmore and the other to Logan Payne, who beat Jennings and Grant.

Holmgren jokingly said that Craig Terrill hurt his back picking up an amp. He never clarified though, so I don't know if he was serious or not, both about the injury and the cause. Regardless, Terrill missed practice.

Holmgren said the upcoming game was very important for allowing the coaches to evaluate the close calls. One game, Holmgren said, could be the difference between a guy fulfilling his dream or having it shatter. He brought up Babin as a guy who has played very well this year, and said Babin-Atkins is a close call.

Bruce DeHaven said that Lindsey's and Robinson's velocity were similar, but Robinson was more accurate and more consistent. Boling is writing on Robinson for tomorrow so I didn't get the chance to speak with him.
