Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren said Lofa Tatupu suffered a bone bruise on his knee. He will not play Friday against Oakland but he should be OK for the season opener.
Frye could play this Friday, Holmgren said, though he then backed off and would not say if he definitively is playing. He kind of suggested Seneca Wallace and Dalton Bell would get the majority of the snaps but also said that Frye may play. A bit ambiguous but I guess the point is that Frye could play if he was needed.
Seneca said he was not expecting to play against the Chargers until he saw Frye get hurt, and he was surprised when he had to go in and start tossing passes. He said he expected to play on Friday anyway and that is healed from his groin injury and ready to go.
As for Bell, he didn't look too good in practice. He tends to throw the ball high to receivers, which means there are interceptions aplenty. I will detail that in a later post, but Holmgren doesn't even seem to get angry when Bell throws pick, he just starts coaching the defensive backs on what they are supposed to do on the interception returns. Holmgren almost seems resigned to the fact. Should be interesting on Friday if he sees a lot of time against the Raiders.
COMMENTS:
"there are interceptions aplenty... Holmgren almost seems resigned to the fact." Bell is so gone. No practice squad, no IR, no nothing, just gone.
Hasslebeck is back in Seattle rehabing his back. Why? BECAUSE HE'S INJURED! And Wallace doesn't think the possibility of Frye getting injured, EVEN IF unlikely, might happen?
Now, I CAN SEE SOMEONE not thinking they're going to play. But, you can't predict injuries... and to make that comment PUBLICLY is assinine. Zero leadership.
Seneca wasn't supposed to play, so he admitted he wasn't part of the game plan for the day... big deal. I'm sure he was prepared for the possibility.
And, BobbyK, leave academics out of it, unless you want my company accountant taking snaps instead of Seneca. We all know when he got into the league he needed some extra tutoring for comprehension. So you wanna take a shot at a guy who admitted he was having difficulty and got help to overcome it? Nice.
I understand the point you are making which makes sense, but it is a bit of a stretch to apply the business world to the sports world. I believe you have to expect to be called in to play after EVERY play, esp. quarterback. I was at the game and the difference between Charlie and Seneca was vast. Seneca just didn't look prepared, and IMO should have been ready. On the other hand if Charlie cont. to improve we may be able to see Seneca use some of that God given physical ability!!!
I think we should just play Bell all game, let him get killed.. and go into Buffalo with 3 healthy QB's.. that way we can use Seneca at WR for 4-6 plays, just to give the Bills an unexpected wrinkle.
