ESPN's Chris Mortenson reported this morning that Matt Hasselbeck has a bulging disc in his back. What Seahawks pr is telling us is this:

Matt does have a bulging disc that was revealed on the MRI that was taken when he initially injured the back. But the disc, we are told by Pr, is not the reason he missed the time in the preseason. That was because he was suffering from back spasms. He did receive an injection for that, we are told by pr, which calmed down the back. The bulging disc, pr tells us, is the result of wear and tear and age and is not affecting his ability to play. When we asked why this was not revealed before, pr told us that Matt is very protective of information regarding his health, though this does go against him saying that he is "100 percent."

why do i get the idea that this back thing is going to be an issue all season long?

Very carefully worded post. Reading between the lines, this condition was known around camp in the past few weeks, and beat guys sat on it.

That's how guys like Mortenson and Clayton get "scoops" over the local guys. The beat writers can't break the news and instead leak it to the national guys who break the news instead.

Heck, the KIRO crew haven't even mentioned it yet.

I knew there was something more that they weren't telling us.

Frank has told us before they must keep quiet on subjects like this when ccovering the team so closely.

Historically, Hasselbeck has played poorly with nagging injuries that guys like Manning, Brady and Favre play well through.

We'll see if that is an issue again this year.

It's easy to see why Wahle was cut by Carolina. He is driven back every single play, like in the preseason.
