The following is the Hawks' press release:

The Seattle Seahawks have signed wide receiver Michael Bumpus from the practiced squad to the active roster, the team announced today. To make room the club released wide receiver Samie Parker.

Bumpus signed with Seattle as an undrafted rookie free agent on April 27, 2008. The club released him on August 30, 2008, before signing him to the practice squad the following day. After his senior season at Washington State, he earned All-Pac 10 Conference honorable mention while recording 70 receptions, 789 receiving yards and four touchdowns. He holds Washington State’s record for all-time career punt return yards with 801.

I wonder how Jordan Kent feels about being "bumped" to the practice squad for Bumpus? I really could care less, I only care about what will make the Hawks a better team.

I still think KoRo would have been the better option, but Timmay! would rather be God than do what's best for the team.
seahawk44 @ 14:03 - Saturday, September 13th, 2008 Email
Makes since...Bumpus is a punt returner.
Kuya @ 14:07 - Saturday, September 13th, 2008 Email
good move but we still have 2 kickers on the team...
moeflo @ 14:07 - Saturday, September 13th, 2008 Email
Ah, posted my comment in the other blog about this and after I did and went back to the blog it's up.
Nice!

But still, why two kickers?
hamfist @ 14:35 - Saturday, September 13th, 2008 Email
I'm thinking they REALLY want Coutu on the PS. I expected that they would try a move today, but .........
Audible @ 14:54 - Saturday, September 13th, 2008 Email
Parker released? Not our playmaker? Please tell me it's NOT SO! If he starts for the Colts this weekend, I'm going to be pissed!
NickLicatasucks @ 15:00 - Saturday, September 13th, 2008 Email
I am looking forward to the day when the Seahawks release the Invisible Man (Atkins) and Luis Ugueto (Coutu) or someone else at either of those positions.

I wonder when the invisible man will end up on IR. Sounds like they are trying to give him a back injury or something.
chucko24 @ 15:04 - Saturday, September 13th, 2008 Email
sorry guys I am a pretty smart cat and I make a living in teh sports world but..............WTF are the Hawks doing? Are we seeing moves of desperation to salvage teh season? Is there more going on behind the scenes? Please tell me we have a really good reason for keeping two kickers and we let Justin Forsett go? I know he wasnt the next barry sanders, but he surly eared a shot at being part of the future.

Oh, and something about weaver I just am not impressed with. He seems like a kind of awkward runner, maybe because he is a converted TE? I dont know. REally liked Forsett.

Now teh question is..........CAN our Hawker Dockers cover 7 points?
HawkFromDay1 @ 15:20 - Saturday, September 13th, 2008 Email
chucko... when you start out with "I'm pretty smart so..." no one will ever believe anything you say. You aren't Jamie Dukes in disguise are you?

I barely got through 8th grade, and I'm a little confused by the roster churn too - why 2 kickers? Did we forget we had Bumpus when we signed Parker? Did anyone approve signing TJ Duckett before Ruskell just did it?

Not sure if the right hand knows what the left is doing.
Canfan @ 15:57 - Saturday, September 13th, 2008 Email
Parker obviously didn't show any playmaking ability in practice. They decided that Bumpus was better, especially since Hass has more practice with him.
mister andersen @ 15:58 - Saturday, September 13th, 2008 Email
Weird move, why sign Parker and then turn around and dump him for Bumpus? It must have something to do with salary. Maybe they can pay Bumpus less and sneak Branch in this week.
osoviejo @ 16:06 - Saturday, September 13th, 2008 Email
It's not a big mystery. They signed him after a tryout, and released him after an undistinguished week of practice. What's to understand?
ballgame @ 16:52 - Saturday, September 13th, 2008 Email
I think as fans it is pretty easy to get caught up in a player that nobody expected to play well in Pre-season. Everybody likes to think that they found a special player that nobody knows about. I think that is what happened with Forsett. If you look at him objectively I think you could say he played very well in the first preseason game, he looked like he might be a special returner in the 2nd game and then was a non factor in the 3rd game and was awful in the 4th game.
After looking at the 3rd and 4th preseason games I can't believe he wasn't cut in the final cutdown of preseason.
Bump will do a go job returnering punts and lets not forget that Wilson took a Kickoff to the house last year and was a very good kick returner in College.
The arguement that I have seen the most on this blog is people are upset that we didn't sign KoRob because he could return punts and Kickoffs and can pick up the O quickly. I like Koren but he didn't know the O when he was here and dropped a lot of passes, and as far as being a punt returner goes he has only returned 2 punts in his career counting college.

Just some thoughts

this is the exact problem with this blog for all the brown nosers...thanks for the inisder information. tough to get our hand on the press release.

how bout some ANALYSIS? if you look at seattle times blog, they posted the info a whole lot earlier...and shock, there is some great ANALYSIS as to rationale for the move.

This is another sign that the Seahawks front office is in disarray. It's completely idiotic to sign a guy and then release him in 3 days. They should have just signed Bumpy from the practice squad in the first place.

I also can't fathom why we're keeping 2 kickers. I mean, don't we have to be close enough in game to actually find out Mare can make a big kick? When's that gonna happen?

49'ers, 24-13.
ibgoofy @ 18:29 - Saturday, September 13th, 2008 Email
Despite his speed, Parker had basic probs.... catching the ball was #1, he also had probs with the WCO and was often not physically healthy... Any one of these things may have shown up very clear over the last couple of days... It was a strange hire from the start... except for his speed.... If the hamstring is still a prob, he may not even have had that...
BobbyK @ 18:32 - Saturday, September 13th, 2008 Email
I've been as critical as anyone of Ruskell, but the team really didn't lose anything by releasing Parker.

They brought him in, they realized Bumpus was better, and made the move they thought would help the team most.

Nothing wrong with that.

The only thing wrong (in my opinion) is not bringing in KoRo, as I firmly believe that he is what is best for the team at this moment in time.

If he screws up (again), you can cut his ass (again). But while we're waiting for Branch/Engram to come back, we could use him. He also has something that NO other FA WR has... a history with Matt Hasselbeck and TALENT...

I agree that Ruskell did the right thing by getting rid of him three years ago, but now he's doing the wrong thing by not giving him the time of day. Things change and if the drunk gets drunk again, we lose nothing except cutting him. It's not like we're signing him to a multi-year contract with a huge signing bonus that will affect the salary cap in the future.

And lets say that Branch and Engram come back strong in a few weeks. That would be great!

However, that means Taylor is probably our #3 WR. That sucks! That's still not good enough! We need KoRo to add talent to the WR position (not to mention that he'd be the best kick returner on our team too).

Branch has a history of getting hurt. That's just a fact. As much as I want Branch to remain healthy for the remainder of the year, there is reason to expect that Branch will miss some time later in the season for a different reason/injury. Engram isn't a spring chicken either and the chance of him getting hurt again increases the older he gets. I wish Ruskell wasn't the smug, arrogant, stubborn bastard that he is... he's not the total creap that I make him out to be (I'm just mad there are so many readers who are mindless members of his Cult) and I actually believe he's in the top half of GMs in the NFL, but his actions the past few weeks just show/prove that he's certainly not perfect (as if we didn't know that from the Hutch thing). Again, I can understand him not giving KoRo the time of day three years ago based on principle, but times change and now is the time to do what's best for the team.

Where's Frank's wife? At this point, I would settle for a recipe!
chewy724 @ 21:05 - Saturday, September 13th, 2008 Email
So much for Parker the Playmaker.

What's next Numbskull Ruskell? Here's an idea: to show the Colts they can't screw with us (by signing Forsett), go and sign a receiver off their practice squad. Yah Timmy, you show them just like when you stuck it to the Vikings with the Burleson signing. Keep up the great work. Holmgren loves you.

Birdfeeder @ 22:12 - Saturday, September 13th, 2008 Email

OK EVERYONE,

Let us hold all judgement until after the Colts game. I was/am a Forsett fan, but he isn't coming back. All we can do to feel better about this event is hope he is nothing special when he hits the field.

Should he shoot the lights out, we can entertain all manner of kicking and screaming on this board.
jgg007 @ 01:50 - Sunday, September 14th, 2008 Email
Picking up Koren Robinson would be a great move. If you go back and watch his rookie season... he was incredible. Depending on how good of shape he's kept himself in, he could be the difference the Seahawks need right now. All they'd have to do is put de-escalators in his contract involving drugs, alcohol, or any new legal entanglements.

Of course, Ruskell is too high and mighty to ever make such a move. I'm all about keeping criminals off the team. That being said, nobody is perfect. Koren Robinson appears to be rehabilitated. As has been mentioned, he spoke to the rookies about decision making. He is clearly making the effort.
moo @ 02:59 - Sunday, September 14th, 2008 Email
Samie, we hardly knew ya...........

Here's what I think is up with the kicker situation:

I think Holmgren wants Mare for his experience & Ruskell & Mora want Cotou & his upside.

I'm a bit surprised they didn't ir or pup Cotou when he was really hurt; but I think we're eventually going to either see that or a practice squad move on a week where everyone else seems to have a kicker.
nighthawk2 @ 03:12 - Sunday, September 14th, 2008 Email
Robinson wasn't a criminal, he is an alcoholic. And yes, he appears to have recovered from it. I still don't want him on the team.

Why sign Parker in the first place? A guy who Denver cut BEFORE camp, because he didn't fit with the WCO. Why not just sign Bumpus off the PS then? Why two kickers? Why is Atkins still on the roster? Why release Forsett instead of a kicker, or instead of Atkins? Because we're stuck with a moron for a general manager.
jibo1 @ 07:40 - Sunday, September 14th, 2008 Email
I believe there are still a team or two out there that needs a kicker.Someone said that Holmgren want Mare, and Ruskell& Mora want Cotou for down the road(next year.they are waiting for everyone to have there kickers then Cotou goes on the PS.
I too am a Ruskell basher,I would like for Holmgren to have his job asap,an not go to 49ers.Or some job in the front office.
Ruskell spends to muich time with a play boy in his left hand.Theres no need to say whats in his right.
chucko24 @ 08:21 - Sunday, September 14th, 2008 Email
our front office is inefectual. Big word of the day.

Give em credit, Our players are tryin but what now Tatupu AND Trufant are both playing with a cast on their hands? yikes!

And we have the Maytag repairman playing wide receiver for us?

We got those 49'rs right were we want em!

Your dead on BobbyK. K-Ro is the best move for this team right now. If he stays clean, he might even stick around for a while.

Either that, or get on the phone save the season, TImmay. Somebody has to have a decent reciever they're willing to part with.
nmseafan @ 10:02 - Sunday, September 14th, 2008 Email
Newsflash: Taylor has BIG game !!! Catches 7 passes for 135 yards and a TD !!!! Plays like it is his last game !! Suddenly realizes......"I do know the routes!!".During an interview with PI, Taylor explains this epiphany (actually the BIGGEST word of the day) happened during a dream on Saturday night after Taylor watched the movie "Invincible" for the 30th time !!
oceanic @ 10:53 - Sunday, September 14th, 2008 Email
Ruskell has make some great moves on defense: Drafting Lofa, Hill and Mebane, signing Tru and Lofa long term. Bringing in Kerney. It is on offense where Tim errors.

He really needed to improve the O line.

I hope Taylor, Carlson and Putzier have better hands than they have shown so far.
