On Monday, Seattle coach Mike Holmgren said there would be changes this week, and after watching practice this afternoon Holmgren made good on his promise.

However, the player changes were mostly subtle. First, Koren Robinson was in full pads and working in with the first offense, along with a stable of other receivers. It's the first time Robinson, who has been hampered with a sore knee, has made it through an entire practice since Seattle picked him up a few weeks ago.

Robinson said he's getting close to being in playing shape, and wants to make it through practice healthy this week so he can play on Sunday.

"Today was the first step," Robinson said. "I felt good. I'm not where I need to be. I'm not where I'm going to be, but it was definitely a step in the right direction."

[More:]

With Robinson back, the Seahawks worked him at split end along with Billy McMullen and Jordan Kent. Keary Colbert and Michael Bumpus worked at flanker, with Bobby Engram getting work both on the outside and in the slot.

Maurice Morris also returned to action and moved pretty well today. Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck did not practice, but came out midway through with a sleeve on his right leg. Seneca Wallace did not practice.

Defensively, linebacker Leroy Hill missed practice with a sore knee, and D.D. Lewis worked with the first team in place of Hill.

Josh Wilson and Kelly Jennings split time at right cornerback, with Wilson bumping inside when the Hawks worked on nickel defense.

Seattle defensive backs coach Jim Mora said Jennings is more of an outside guy in the team's coverage scheme, while Wilson works better on receivers inside the slot. Mora also said Jennings has been dinged up and they want to get more reps for Wilson, hence the open competition at corner.

"It's a multitude of things," Mora said. "No. 1, we want to get Josh more reps because he's worthy of more reps. No. 2, Kelly had the mild concussion and maybe a little bit of a stinger Sunday on the seventh play and didn't come back then. And in the second game he broke the rib, so he's a little beat up.

"It's a long season. We've got 12 games to go. So we want to make sure we're prudent in how much we put him out there and expose him when he's not 100 percent."

Jennings said his confidence is still high, and that he just has to do a better job bumping guys off the ball in press coverage and battling for jump balls at the end of the route.

"I'm a cornerback," Jennings said. "We've got a Pro-Bowl corner on the other side so I know they're coming my way. So I've got to step up and make a play, or we've got to do something different."

I also talked to Marcus Trufant about his hand injury. He said he's wearing a smaller cast which allows him to use his injured hand more. Trufant said he's hoping to get rid of the cast in two weeks.

Josh Brown our former kicker is back!?

And he is playing corner!?

lol

Hell, Josh Brown couldn't do any worse at CB than Wilson or Jennings, could he?
Eric Williams @ 15:56 - Wednesday, October 8th, 2008 Email
My bad. I got it.

I'm excited about the prospect of KoRo as a starting WR.

Our defense better show up this weekend. 1-3 is bad enough. 1-4 and we can pretty much kiss our playoff hopes goodbye, those of us that are still hanging on to that last thread of hope.

I really hope K-Rob works out for us. I never thought after the way he left Seattle I would ever welcome him back but I guess that just shows how desperate I am for a win.

Just please don't go back to K-drop Koren!

Why is Wilson deserving of more reps? From what I've seen he and Jennings are deserving of a place on the bench.

So if Hasselbeck didn't practice and Seneca Wallace didn't practice, then Laughing Charlie Frye was working with the first team receivers?

Nighthawk2

I am glad somebody else noticed Charlie Frye laughing on the sidelines when we were getting our butts handed to us. Maybe he was thinking about his career?

Who else is there besides Wilson and Jennings? Hobbs? When you have 2 players with game experience competing for a position, why would you bring in a guy with zero game experience who has done literally NOTHING? Hobbs was not too great in preseason play against other team's backups, why would he be better than Jennings or Wilson?
nighthawk2 @ 17:33 - Wednesday, October 8th, 2008 Email
He should be. Guys that have done that in the past have found themselves on the waiver wire. I'd be real interested in knowing what Holmgren's view of it would be if he was asked about it. I mean he's watched so much film, did he not see it?

bryce, I understand what you're saying, but what I really want the coaching staff to do, even if it's just for one game (and they don't have to let the offending guys know it's for one game), is shake some of these guys out of their complacency. Setting someone down and going Soup Nazi on them ("No playing time for you!") is the best way to get someone's attention and make them think about how they're playing or acting (unless it's Plaxico Burress). That's what I'm advocating. And to look at it another way, after 4 games of seeing these guys get toasted, be out of position, and whiff on tackles, could it really be any worse if a guy like Hobbs or C.J. Wallace started a game ahead of Jennings and Russell? Just don't make the decision the Friday before a game, do it on a Monday and give the guy time for a full week's worth of practice with the first team.

I have not posted in years, but I just came back to say this Defense is putrid.

I was at the Giants game, what an embarrassing performance.

They need to go 4-12 to get a top pick and get a top flight DT, so they can actually stop the run.

I am happy to see K-Rob back and hope everything works out well for him. But he is one of the reasons this team has been sent backwards. Think of what happened if he would have been a model citizen since day 1. Ruskell would have never traded that #1 pick for Branch since it would not have been necessary to do so. We could have used that pick for Safety help, or maybe got a better CB than Wilson, hey possibly draft a OG or OT.

It is just funny to watch how bad personel decisions come back to haunt teams, especially in the NFL.

Im not sure what Josh Wilson has done to be worthy of more snaps.
SouthPrairieRedneck @ 21:27 - Wednesday, October 8th, 2008 Email
The hawks have very little talent at WR and will be lucky to see a winning record this year. The league has caught up to Holmgren, at least when he is limited by a GM who focuses on defense.

It would be nice to see the defense step up and play the way we all believe they should be able to play. At least keep us entertained.

It's not so much what Wilson has done but more of what Jennings has not done.
Sac_94 @ 00:00 - Thursday, October 9th, 2008 Email
Jennings vs. Wilson

Sadly neither are a great option.

Usually when Wilson gets beat he's in the picture, he lacks ball skills but he seems to usually be in decent position. Jennings on the other hand, has been absolutely toasted a few times and seems to be the number one offender of PI and illegal contact penalties.
IDHawkman @ 06:39 - Thursday, October 9th, 2008 Email
PHEW!!!!

I'm so glad we now know what was wrong with our Defense. Jennings was "banged up a little." Wish we could have known that before he was resposible for giving up 500+ yards. Now that we have Josh over there, we can expect to hold teams to...... what..... say 450+ yards?

We are on our way now.
swab @ 12:18 - Thursday, October 9th, 2008 Email
Im glad we wasted our 1st pick in consecutive drafts on undersized morons. Is it possible to draft a CB over 4 ft tall that weighs over 100 pounds? According to Tim Ruskell, it is not. As long as they have a good attitude and work ethic Ruskell considers them worthy. Lets not care whether they know how to cover anyone or have the ability for that matter.
ballhawk300 @ 13:59 - Thursday, October 9th, 2008 Email
We all know Ruskell gets a chubby by drafting personnel that are undersized and play with alot of heart....I'm just waiting for him to find out what happened to Rudy so he can be our next undersized Seattle defender.
