Seahawks Insider

Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck, who has a hyperextended knee, missed his second straight day of practice. He came out on the field later in the practice -- which Seneca Wallace has not done -- but he still has a slight limp. No word on his availability for Sunday but he told Green Bay reporters on Wednesday that he will play. Of course, he also told them he would practice today, and that he wanted to go yesterday but the staff held him out. The one thing that is a bit troubling is that he still does not have a rhythm with his receivers, and especially Koren Robinson, and this week would have been nice to get that chemistry. Offensive coordinator Gil Haskell said that, yes, Hasselbeck is a veteran, but you are never too good or too experienced to miss a practice. Every little bit helps.

[More:]

Justin Forsett was back in the locker room, and seemed pretty happy to be there. He said he was released by Indy because they had injuries on defense and they needed his spot to solidify the secondary. He said Buffalo and Philadelphia both called his agent to express an interest, but he felt more comfortable in Seattle, he knew the players, he knew the system, and he felt like he had a future. He said the hard part about this is he had gotten a place in Indianapolis, and now he has to get out of the lease, move the furniture and do the moving thing for the third time since summer.

Defensive backs coach Jim Mora acknowledged that some of the d backs are trying to do too much. It is easy to tell them, he said, to take on only their responsibility, but it is quite another to be in the middle of a game, see Brandon Jacobs running like crazy and not give in to the urge to come forward to help out the front seven. That is what happened on that 41-yard pass to Domenik Hixon on Sunday; the Giants ran a play-fake, both Josh Wilson and Brian Russell bit on it because they were trying to help out their teammates, and next thing they know, Hixon is blasting by them. Mora's message this week has been to be concerned with your responsibility primarily and the game will take care of itself.

I also asked Mora about UW defensive coordinator Ed Donatell, who was on Mora's staff in Atlanta. He said he has not had a great deal of time to speak with Donatell about what is going on over at the UW, and he has only been to one game, not enough to formulate an educated opinion on what is happening with the Huskies. He said they exchange text messages and have superficial conversations, but nothing in depth.

Special teams coach Bruce DeHaven said he is working with punter Jon Ryan on his accuracy, the lack of which is why Ryan was released from Green Bay in September. He said it seems easier said than done, though, and it is the thing most young punters are working on. Both DeHaven and Ryan said he was better in the second half against New York because he simply relaxed.

Newly signed Travis Lulay ran the scout team since Hasselbeck and Seneca both were sidelined. He threw a number of interceptions, one to Lofa Tatupu and another to Marcus Trufant.
