Where to start on a day with multiple story lines?

Let's begin with the Seahawks' health since everything else, while important, is sort of ancillary. Holmgren still doesn't know about the availability of Matt Hasselbeck but he did not seem overly optimistic about it. He said he worked out this morning and is hopeful that Matt can work toward playing, but he will not practice today. He went on to say that he has to see Matt practice since he has missed so much time. Which means he will have only Thursday and/or Friday to show that he is strong enough. Holmgren clarified that Seneca will start if Hass is unable to go. He said that he learned only yesterday that Seneca said his calf flared up midway through the game, and that he had a meeting with him and told him he has to be more honest with him in the future about his health. He said Seneca agreed.

[More:]

Everybody else except Will Heller is going to try to practice and play, including Deion Branch. Heller has the knee injury and was limping through the locker room on Tuesday wearing a brace.

Holmgren addressed the story I wrote today about Julius blowing up, saying that he talked to Julius and he spoke with the team about how to handle their frustrations. He said Julius was upset that he had been pulled out of the game in the hurry-up offense, and he ended up throwing his helmet and verbally expressing his pent-up anger. He said he told Julius and all the players, if you have a problem with what is going on, come up to me and express what is bothering you and we'll address it. He said Julius told me that has never happened to him before, and it is a byproduct of their 1-5 record as much as it was his lack of carries.

As for all the rumors of Holmgren going to San Francisco, I thought he gave a very interesting non-answer when I asked him this question: If the perfect scenario presented itself, would your big boss (wife Kathy) give you permission to skip the sabbatical? He essentially said he did not want to deal in hypotheticals. Read into that what you will. I know I am.

Holmgren was asked who along the offensive line he thought was playing well, which is a backward way of asking who is not playing well. Playing well: Walter Jones, Floyd Womack, and he said Mike Wahle consistently grades out the highest. You can figure out who is left out of that mix. As for the Ray Willis-Sean Locklear thing, he said they will continue to split time. He said Locklear got 65 percent of the snaps against Tampa Bay, but he is not going quarter-by-quarter.

Holmgren also was asked if him retiring and Mora coming in has had any unexpected consequences. He said he did not. He asked about the coaching staff. He said he didn't think it had an affect there either.

Practice is starting in a bit. Eric Williams will be blogging from that.

Everyone said Brett learned from Mike and Mike has learned from Brett. He said he will retire after this year, but I garentee you Mike will be calling the shots in San Fran next year. It's been his dream job and as soon as he leaves Seattle Mike will take over the reigns in 9er town.

Great analogy, hawk9680. Funny too. And most likely true. No matter what, I will wish Holmy the best (unless it's at the expence of our 'Hawks).

I guess all along, mike still has his heart set in San Francisco. It's too bad that it had to end this way. Mike has been the best coach the franchise ever had.

I'd be outraged if I was Jones too. He is getting screwed because Holmgren's love affair with Morris.

I like Mike. Well, wrong Mike for the slogan but it's all still good. Timmay on the other hand is a joke. Want his comparison? Try Behring. That is what he is doing to my beloved Hawks.

3 good moves to complement HOLMGREN'S roster in '05 and he gets wayyyyyyyyyy more credit than he deserves. I wish the Big Show all the best as he builds a dynasty in SF that will kick our asses for the next decade.

My company relo'd me to NM a year ago and my wife and I fly in for every home game to 'man' our season ticket seats since the stadium opened.

When I got to my new posting there was a complete apathy (disguised as 'getting along') to being the WORST business operation in our company. I fired 75 out of 120 employees and restaffed with high performers. We are now among the highest performing offices in the company.

The secret? I don't hire people that like to win. I hire people that HATE to lose.

The Hawks? Boy, they sure get along well. Although, they completely suck.

Changes HAVE to be coming. Coach's attitude is that of someone that HATES to lose. I love it and wish we had a roster full of guys that HATE to lose (et al; SB 40).

Instead we have a roster full of guys that get along regardless of the circumstances.

Well, enjoy each other's company while morons like me continue to spend thousands to watch the love fest that is spiraling into the Ken Behring era--thanks Timmay.

Let's be honest, Ruskell doesn't want Holmgren as head coach. He wants his own guy.

The way things are going for this team I would think that they would want to find a solution quickly! Fans are falling off the bandwagon, fast! Could you imagine an empty Quest Field? From 67,000 + fans to 7,000. I can easily see that scenario! This has to be the worst down-hill turn for a team that I think I have ever seen!
