Posted by Frank Hughes @ 08:08:52 pm

I don't know if this is like the game of telephone, where something is passed on from one person to the next, the context of the message gets changed and the misinformation picks up steam; or whether there is legitimacy to any of it, but the Jim Mora-to-Washington rumors simply will not die.

I was just taking a look at Bob Condotta's blog over at the Times, and he posted an item that says Mora's Wikipedia entry was briefly updated -- then changed -- saying Mora would be announced as UW's coach on Dec. 3. It is an eight-year deal, the item said, before being taken off the site. Here is a link to Bob's post.

I myself have gotten a flurry of emails informing me that Mora would be announced in the next 24 hours; that Paul Allen and Scott Woodward have sat down to discuss the issue; that Mora is definitely going to be the Huskies' next coach and it will be announced any moment. There has been no indication from Renton that anything has changed from Mora's initial -- and only -- statement on the topic, saying he is not a candidate for the position. Yet the rumors will continue in earnest until UW hires a head coach -- whether that is Mora or somebody else.

OMG. Please Frank get to the bottom of this. Your blog probably gets the most hits out of all the blogs and u let Bob Condotta beat you? To give us fans closure - both Huskies and Seahawks, please find out...

If Paul Allen really had this meeting with Woodward is somewhat amazing and may show that Ruskells days of GM outnumbered. I can't believe it until the fat lady sings!
CYRREEN @ 20:29 - Monday, December 1st, 2008 Email
I hope Mora takes the job as Huskies coach. Mora has done nothing to earn the rights to replace the "Future Hall of Framer" coach. Long Live Mike Holmgren, the new GM for Seattle Seahawks.

Mr. Alan, please save our Seahawks, and your investment.
dhardw @ 20:56 - Monday, December 1st, 2008 Email
This Mora thing is annoying as hell. IMO the UW and Mora deserve each other. All hype and no substance.
Dukeshire @ 21:09 - Monday, December 1st, 2008 Email
In all honesty, until Mora is wearing a Seahawks headset next September, I assume that he'll be the Huskies next coach. I've always felt that way and his feeble denial a couple weeks ago only increased my feelings.
Hawkfan1951 @ 21:25 - Monday, December 1st, 2008 Email
What's the old truism... It's better for follow a failure, than a legend.

Mora to the U-Dub would be a more succesful path than Mora following Holmgren.

My vote is REPLACE Ruskell with Holmgren, get anothor Head Coach, and go from there.

GO HAWKS!!
dhardw @ 21:28 - Monday, December 1st, 2008 Email
I am with you on the replacing Ruskell part. He has been very average and has yet to hit a homerun with one of his 1st round picks.
hawk9680 @ 21:35 - Monday, December 1st, 2008 Email
Frank I understand they are rumors, but do you see any truth to this? I find it kind of interesting there is so much, but no denial from either side. I know Mora has said he won't talk about it, but still wouldn't Seattle come out? Could you see him taking the dream job and has he been interviewed or asked for an interview?
firejimmoradotcom @ 21:45 - Monday, December 1st, 2008 Email
I am not a candidate, but if you want to call my agent and make me an offer, then I'm willing to talk.

Mike Homlgren for GM.
Andy Reid for Head Coach!

I love the revisionist history here. Holmgren's tenure as GM was not a great success. This just in; HE IS LEAVING AT THE END OF THE YEAR.
QB_Sneak @ 22:01 - Monday, December 1st, 2008 Email
Mora to UW? I wish I had feelings on this either way. If he goes, so be it. If he stays, I think he'll be a good head coach, but not really sure. I'm completely ambivalent about it, which probably isn't a good thing.

If Mora goes to UW, bring in old hairlip himself, Bill Cowher, to coach the Hawks.
NickHawk1 @ 22:04 - Monday, December 1st, 2008 Email
The seahawks jumped the gun with Mora, so the best thing to do is just let him leave. I truly feel there are better coaches out there. Look at the rookie coaches this year..not to shabby. Plus doesnt Mora coach the secondary? gezzz they are terrible.

Man the weirdos that keep commenting on this site are why I hardly ever post here. Just had a to get a good laugh in. Crazy how one bad season and everything and everyone sucks according to you fellas. The Holmgren as GM thing is what cracks me up most. Good work you super bright commenters!
ecksinoh @ 22:43 - Monday, December 1st, 2008 Email
Did Dukshire just say that "Holmgrens tenure as GM was not a great success."

He built the nucleus of the Super Bowl team in 05'. It's simple, like all good builders, he knew what tools he needed to get the job done. I'm tired of Holmgren not getting the credit he deserves when he was the GM.
airbags @ 23:18 - Monday, December 1st, 2008 Email

ecksinoh makes a good point - the 2005 offense was comprised of mostly - but not all - of holmy's boys.

wasn't the reason he was stripped of the GM title because he couldn't coach and gm at the same time? (walk and chew gum? pat your head and rub your belly?)

based on that, dukeshire's point is also somewhat correct - his tenure as GM -AND- coach wasn't a great success.

so, let him be just the GM...

i don't care much for the pac10, anyway, seeing's how i went to TEXAS (hate you, ou scum), so mora going to uw doesn't really affect me outside of what it means for the future of the seahawks.

if that means there is the slightest possibility that this is the end of timmay!, we don't lose holmy to san fran, 2008 is an aberration and the nfc west is still OUR DIVISION, then i'm all about the hope that the rumour is true.

nick saban: "i am not interested in the job at alabama."

bobby petrino: "i am not interested in the job at arkansas."

jim mora: "i am not interested in the job at washington."

yeah, right.

jimmy mora going to uw will win a bet i have with a co-worker, so i'm all for it!

MIKE HOLMGREN FOR GM. THERE IS NO OTHER WAY.

PLEASE FRANK...ASK THE COACH THE QUESTION!!!

GO HAWKS.
luckman15 @ 00:34 - Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 Email
I've pleaded my case for Holmgren as GM before on many Hawks forums. He built the Super Bowl team. He wasn't perfect (Chris McIntosh, Lamar King, Koren Robinson) but the man is smart (traded for Hasselbeck, essentially traded unhappy Galloway for Alexander's draft pick, drafted Hutchinson the year prior). He built a mammoth Super Bowl caliber team that I will go to my death bed saying should've had a fair game for the title.

Holm was good as GM yet he removed the GM role after a second losing season, making him 2-2 in 4 seasons with the Hawks. We all know Holm wants to see Seattle get a championship or multiple championships. He still has work to do and I believe completely that he is as loyal to Seattle as he is to his roots in San Francisco (or hopefully more). I don't see him wanting to move on to SF to be GM there unless he is run out of town here.
Josh Brown @ 01:05 - Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008
He's building a house in the Bay, gents.

Holmy's coming home.

Your depressed Dora's should consider the same mood yourself.

Jim Zorn for Vice President and Head Coach. Move over Ruskell.
Osiris33 @ 06:56 - Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 Email
http://seahawkboys.blogspot.com/
Great! Now we can promote Mr. Seahawk, Jim Zorn himself to head coach! Oh wait....

You guys have got to be kidding. Holmgren for GM? That's just what we need. As much as I dislike Ruskell, the last thing this team needs is more Lamar King's Anton Palepoi's, or Chris McIntosh's. Not to mention Fred Vinson, passing on Ed Reed when you desperately need a safety for Jerramy Stevens, wasting a 2nd round pick on a mediocre talent like Maurice Morris... the list goes on.

And let's look at that '05 team, shall we?

QB - Hasselbeck - Holmy
FB - Strong - Mueller
RB - Shaun - Holmy
FL - DJack - Holmy
SE - Jurevicious - Ruskell
TE - Stevens - Holmy
LT - Walt - Mueller
LG - Hutch - Holmy
C - Tobeck - Holmy
RG - Gray - Mueller
RT - Locklear - Holmy

Not bad, but let's look at the defense:

DE - Wistrom - Whitsett
DT - Tubbs - Ferguson
DT - Darby - Ruskell
DE - Fisher - Ruskell
LB - Hill - Ruskell
LB - Tatupu - Ruskell
LB - DD Lewis - Holmy
CB - Dyson - Ruskell
CB - Trufant - Ferguson
S - Boulware - Ferguson
S - Manuel - Ruskell

See what I mean?

Now, Holmy for club president, Mueller for GM, and Reid for coach, that I could do. As long as he brings McNabb with him.

Wikipedia logs the IP address of changes, which in this case is a King County government IP address (see the 'history' tab). Doesn't mean it's legit, but it adds some intrigue to the story.

Also, why are my King County tax dollars paying someone to edit a Wikipedia article about a football coach?

"This Mora crap is pissing me off."

BobbyK, I'm sure that you are not the only one. If these "rumors" are not true, I'm sure the Seahawks Front Office is not happy.

And if the rumors are true, Nighthawk2 would have been correct in his speculation from the beginning (NOT saying that NH said it "would" happen. He was just speculating as a possible.

I still do find that anger by Seahawks fans towards Mora as surprising.
Dukeshire @ 09:15 - Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 Email
ecksinoh, yes I did. There is this idea that the '05 team was Holmgren's. That simply isn't accurate. His tenure as GM ended in '02. He did a wonderful job weeding out the Erickson cancers and he rightfully deserves credit for bringing in Hass, Alexande and Walt, to name only 3, but you must remember Whitsett's contributions that elevated this team.

I like Holmgren and the idea of him being GM is interesting but it's not going to happen here. Get over it.

airbags - Here's the thing. As GM you're telling players you can't / won't pay them what they want. As coach you're pushing them to give you more and more all the time. When one person is doing both those things, it has very little chance at success. There is more to GM than just spotting talent.

Osiris33 @ 09:21 - Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 Email

Holmgren did not bring in Walter Jones. Jones was drafted by the Dennis Erickson\Randy Mueller regime. See my post above.

airbags @ 09:54 - Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 Email

dukeshire - oh, i agree with your statement, completely. it just wasn't possible for him (or anyone else) to realistically do both jobs. the left hand feeds, the right takes away... it just doesn't work.

all i'm saying is that the man might do better as just GM... you know he'll get the gig somewhere (sf?), why not here? it's not like ruskell has our complete faith...

toughguy5128 @ 09:55 - Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 Email
I have the answer. Have KJR do a call with Mora! He seems to like to open his mouth to them about what potential jobs he wants, so I figure we will know then.
Mora would be great for the Huskies! And i'm only saying that cause he has the opportunity to get them 2 wins next year. For the Seahawks? No way!!! Again, No Way!!! Do we really want to live in infamy like the way the Colts do and his dad? PLAYOFFS!?!? You really want to talk about, PLAYOFFS!?! (with that high pitched voice that makes dogs cringe)

toughguy - Now that has to be the most interesting (and absord) post in the thread.

Couple things.

Mora talked to KJR when he was with the Falcons, a couple years ago. I'm sure that KJR has asked him (more than once) to do an interview, and he said no. He released as statement. That was his response to the questions. In his, and the Seahawks thinking, the issue is closed.

And to your statement about not hiring Mora? He is already hired as Seahawks head coach, and has a contract.

Will Mora be a good coach for the Seahawks? I have no idea.

Osiris33, one correction to your list: Strong was a Flores pick, not a Mueller pick.
Dukeshire @ 11:52 - Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 Email
Strong was a free agent, not drafted. But you are right, it was under Flores. Maybe the only good thing that happened with his as coach.
idahohawkfan @ 11:59 - Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 Email
I found it very interesting what Troy Aikman was saying on the broadcast during the game Thursday about rumors of what really happened about the announcement of Mora and how Holmgren didn't like the how it was announced early. Sure makes you wonder what really is happening.
This is the 2nd time upper mgmt screwed Holmgren on something like this. Remember how he heard about losing Hutchinson?
Why do we always have to deal with this crap with Seattle sports teams? Team management always seems to make stupid and idiotic decisions that we always get screwed on. Piniella and Holmgren are great examples. We lose two hall of fame coaches, not because they wanted to be closer to home or take a year off, they got fed up with management making horrible decisions and want out of Dodge.
Hawkfan1951 @ 12:37 - Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 Email
idahohawkfan, it wasn't just Troy Aikman talking about those things, it was also Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long and Jimmy Johnson during the half-time show. Bradshaw seemed particularly negative about how Ruskell has treated Holmgren.

Unless Paul Allen steps in for HIS team, again, Holmgren's statement last year about his oppurtunity to be GM of the Seahawks, "That ship has sailed" will be true.

However... complete speculation on my part here.... Holmgren has promised his family to take a year off. I believe that will happen. If Ruskell doesn't get the team turned around next year, there just MAY be a GM (president of Football Operations) opening here for Holmgren... if he wants it.
jasong96 @ 13:16 - Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 Email
Thanks for reminding everyone that the 2005 team was neither all Ruskell's nor all Holmgren's creation. This idea that Holmgren should come back as GM is ridiculous. Let's not forget that Holmgren wouldn't have needed to draft Hutchinson or Alexander had he held on to two very serviceable players in Pete Kendall and Ahman Green. Those were first-round picks that could've been used on defense, which was a bigger need at the time.

And while Ruskell hasn't been perfect, at least he'll have the opportunity to pick near the top of the draft this year. I think he deserves that opportunity.
sportswiz56 @ 15:39 - Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 Email
Will somebody please tell me what makes you think that Mora would be such a great coach for UW. What my Huskies need is a coach who has college coaching experience. Not just because he is alum has coaching experience. I want proven college blood.
CowboysP @ 15:56 - Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 Email
"Will somebody please tell me what makes you think that Mora would be such a great coach for UW."

sportswiz - I can't speak for everyone (or really anyone), but I think that you will find that MOST of the "Mora should go to the Huskies" Seahawks fans on this board just DON'T WANT Mora as the Seahawks coach, and are not really that concerned about the Huskies.

These Seahawks fans absolutely don't want Mora as the Seahawks Head Coach, and the Huskies stealing Mora away is the only hope left for keeping Mora away from the Seahawks job.

Plus this same group is thinking that if Mora were to leave the Seahawks high and dry on no notice, this would show badly on Ruskell, and Ruskell would then be fired.

If I were a Seahawks fan, and didn't like Ruskell, I would be thinking the same thing.
eyeland @ 17:27 - Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 Email
I just don't want Mora to replace Holmgren period. Mora didn't do anything special in Atlanta. But he has been given credit for an NFC playoff run. Then what did he do. Blame it on Vick? I'm not fond of Ruskell. We lost a good GM to the Titans. It doesn't take intelligence to waste an absent owners money like Paul Allen. In fact that pisses me off. The Hutch deal isn't just a burp on a resume,It's a major screw up just as the Branch and Buerlson deals are. I totally understand Holmgren wanting some time off. What I don't get is treating him like a bastard stepchild. He is part of this team coming out of the dark ages. Ruskell cannot claim any of that Period. The only Coach that should be retained is Solari. The rest of the Organization should be set adrift somewhere in the baring Sea.
NickLicatasucks @ 21:33 - Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 Email
