The Seahawks announced today the training camp, practice dates that will be open to the public, from Aug. 3 to Aug. 20. The team will use The Landing, a mixed-use facility next to Boeing in Renton, as a staging area for parking. Fans will have to pay $5 to park there and will be provided transportation to the team's facility.
Anyone interested in attending practice can register beginning July 16 at 10 a.m. at Seahawks.com.
The Seahawks also will have two free practices at the University of Washington on Aug. 7 and Aug. 18. The public will have to pay for parking at UW. For more info check out the press release below.
Associated Press reporter Gregg Bell recently climbed Mount Rainier and wrote about his experience. A West Point graduate who still runs more than 30 miles a week, Bell said he was smoked after reaching the 14,411-foot peak, and told league commissioner Roger Goodell that he better be in shape when he takes on Rainier along with Seahawks head coach Jim Mora and team CEO Tod Leiweke in a climb for charity on July 8.
In my story today on Owen Schmitt’s arrest for suspicion of driving while under the influence, more details emerge on the incident gleaned from the officer’s report at the scene.
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk says that in the wake league commissioner Roger Goodell suspended indefinitely Browns receiver Donte’ Stallworth for killing a man while driving drunk, he believes Schmitt should be suspended for a year. Do you think this is too harsh?
Seahawks fullback Owen Schmitt was arrested last weekend by Black Diamond police for investigation of drunken driving.
According to a report, Schmitt's blood alchohol level was twice the legal limit. In Washington, that's .08.
“I sincerely apologize to the team, the NFL, the fans and my family and friends for my actions and my poor judgment,” Schmitt said in written statement released by the Seahawks.
“I fully understand the seriousness of this matter, and I am disappointed in myself. I am committed to earning back the trust of everyone affected.”
We will update this with more details after Eric gets the police report.
Here's the press release sent out by the Black Diamond PD:
On 6/20/09, the Black Diamond Police Department arrested Owen Schmitt on suspicion of driving under the influence after an officer observed him weaving on the roadway and following too close. After initiating a traffic stop on the vehicle, the officer noticed several signs of intoxication including the smell of alcohol. After failing field sobriety tests, he was arrested and processed for driving under the influence. Schmitt's breath alcohol results were over the .08 legal limit.
Free lance reporter Rob Daniels, formerly of the Greensboro News & Record, was in town during the Seahawks last minicamp a few weeks ago, and put together a nice piece on the three Wake Forest products, center Steve Vallos, tight end John Tereshinski and linebacker Aaron Curry.
Daniels also put together some video interviews and an audio slideshow, which you can check out here.
Happy Father’s Day. With offseason workouts completed and a little over a month until training camp begins, I decided this would be a good time to take another look at the roster. You can view the Seahawks depth chart here. As always, let me know what you think in the comments section.
The Seattle Seahawks have signed Cal tight end Cameron Morrah, who the team drafted in the seventh round in this year's draft, according to the team's twitter account.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
With Morrah now in the fold, the team has signed seventh round draft picks defensive end Nick Reed, safety Courtney Greene and sixth round draft pick quarterback Mike Teel. Left to be signed are first round pick Aaron Curry, second round pick Max Unger and third round pick Deon Butler.
If you’ve been following the fan poll at nfl.com over the past week, then you probably saw that the Seattle Seahawks were ranked 25th overall in that fan poll. The Hawks were the focus of the broadcast of NFL Access on Wednesday, where analyst Charles Davis said the 25th overall ranking for Seattle was too low.
The Hawks are getting a lot of love on nfl.com right now. A story by Steve Wyche, who covered the Jim Mora-led Atlanta Falcons while working as the beat reporter for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, can be checked out here.
Seattle Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry joined Mitch Levy on KJR-AM this morning. Levy talked to Curry about his superstar potential for the Seahawks. But the humble Curry downplayed his future greatness, projecting himself as a your average, 6-foot-3, 254-pound guy.
“I wouldn’t consider myself a superstar,” Curry said. “I’m just a regular guy playing ball.”
Sports Illustrated’s Peter King addressed the Seahawks situation on defense in his Monday Morning Quarterback column.
King said he talked to head coach Jim Mora, who offered defensive ends Lawrence Jackson and Darryl Tapp as players who stood out during the offseason.
Mora also spoke glowingly about the teaching ability of new defensive coordinator Gus Bradley. King said in order for Seattle to improve from its 30th overall ranking defensively they’ll have to do a better job of rushing the passer, which should included some production from rookie linebacker Aaron Curry.
Here’s an excerpt.
Seahawks head coach Jim Mora concluded the team's three-day, mandatory minicamp by ending practice about a half hour early on Friday at 11:30 a.m., to the cheers of all the players.
However, Mora probably had his own selfish motives, particularly after seeing cornerback Josh Wilson go down and need the assistance from trainers who checked out his right knee after defending a pass intended for receiver Ben Obomanu.
Wilson eventually got up and limped off, but obviously Mora had seen enough and wanted to make sure the possibility of other players getting dinged up was avoided.
The Seahawks announced today that they will open training camp practices to the public beginning Aug. 3. Folks interesting in attending can register at the team's web site starting July 16.
Practices will be open from Aug. 3 through Aug. 20, and a schedule along with times will be provided at a later date. For more info check out this link.
The Seahawks practice for about two hours this morning, finishing off practice with a lively 11-on-11 team drill that included scripted, situational down-and-distance plays and a play clock.
Darryl Tapp and Na'Shan Goddard returned to action after sitting out Wednesday's practice.
Wide receiver Deion Branch took another step forward, working into some team drills today.
The Seattle Seahawks will have a morning and afternoon practice today. I'll provide a report after each practice.
In the meantime, here are some Seahawks-related links to start your day.

Wednesday’s Seahawks practice marked the first time wide receiver Deion Branch, defensive lineman Cory Redding and cornerback Kelly Jennings were on the practice field during offseason workouts.
All three were limited during the two-hour practice to individual drills. But Branch said he hopes he can do more in the following practices of the three-day, mandatory minicamp.
For Redding, who came to Seattle in the offseason trade with Detroit that sent linebacker Julian Peterson to the Lions, it was the first time he worked on the field in a helmet with his new teammates.
Seattle Seahawks head coach Jim Mora was asked about Michael Vick's possible return to the league this afternoon after practice, and was clear about his team's possible interest in the Atlanta Falcons quarterback.
Mora said he talked to his former quarterback before he went to prison and the he believed Vick deserved another chance to play in the league.
However, that opportunity won't take place in Seattle.
"It's a sticky situation, one I'm not comfortable talking about," Mora said. "But the fact of the matter is Michael Vick is a member of the Atlanta Falcons organization right now, and for me to speak about him would be speaking out of turn.
"I'll just say this for the record, which is we are very happy with the quarterbacks we have on our roster, and we have no intentions of adding another quarterback to our roster."
I'll have more later from today's practice.
I'm off to watch the first day of minicamp this week. This will be the last time we get a chance to see the Seahawks practice before they shut it down until the opening of training camp at the end of July.
Let me know some questions you would like answered over the next few days and I'll try to get to as many of them as I can.
And I'll have a full report after practice today.
Along with signing seventh round pick safety Courtney Greene and sixth round pick quarterback Mike Teel, the Seahawks have signed seventh round pick defensive end Nick Reed, the team announced today.
With those three picks signed, that leaves first rounder Aaron Curry, second round pick Max Unger, third round pick Deon Butler and seventh rounder Cameron Morrah as the team's draft picks yet to sign with Seattle. Terms of the Reed deal were not disclosed.
The Seattle Seahawks are apparently working on wrapping up this year’s draft picks into new deals. Rutgers quarterback Mike Teel is the next in line, as Northwest Football.net is reporting that Teel has signed a four-year deal. Terms of the agreement have not been disclosed, per the report. Team sources have confirmed the agreement.
Teel becomes the second draft pick to sign with Seattle. Rutgers’ teammate Courtney Greene signed a deal with the Seahawks on Monday.
Adam Caplan of scout.com is reporting that Seahawks rookie safety Courtney Greene has been signed by the team.
Greene is the first rookie from this year's draft signed by the team. According to the report Seattle seventh round pick inked a four-year deal worth roughly $1.8 million. The deal includes a signing bonus of close to $43,000.
Good morning. The Seahawks will have a mandatory minicamp beginning on Wednesday and running to Friday this week, and we’ll be there covering the three-day camp. Here’s a few links to check out this morning.
Dan Arkush of Pro Football Weekly calls the NFC West the most underrated division in the NFL, and says the Seahawks could be breathing down the Cardinals necks in 2009. Here’s an excerpt.
Here's a photo gallery of shots taken by Tacoma News Tribune photographer Dean Koepfler of the Seattle Seahawks taking on a confidence course at Fort Lewis on Thursday.
The Seahawks were at Fort Lewis earlier today. Check out an early edition of my story for tomorrow's paper here. And my main man Dean Koepfler posted a photo gallery too, so plenty of reason to check out our Web site later today.
KJR’s Mitch Levy interviewed Seattle Seahawks cornerback Ken Lucas this morning. Lucas talked about his return to Seattle, wanting to finish out his career as a Seahawks and how much he will contribute defensively.
On how has he changed since he left Seattle for Carolina, Lucas had this to say:
Some have questioned during the offseason how the Seahawks switch to the zone blocking scheme will improve the team’s running game, and whether or not Seattle has enough depth at running back to produce a quality running game in 2009.
Based on his uneven performance last season, some also question Julius Jones’ ability to be the team’s workhorse back, while others are unsure how much T.J. Duckett will contribute in his increased role.
The team’s depth at running back is under scrutiny, with smallish running backs Justin Forsett and Devin Moore, and now with Tyler Roehl suffering a knee injury.
Just another reminder that Bobby Engram will host his second annual celebrity softball game on June 13 at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma on Saturday, June 13 beginning at noon.
For more information check out this link. Several current and former Seahawks will be on hand, including Nate Burleson, Deion Branch, Marcus Trufant, Deon Grant, Courtney Taylor, Seneca Wallace, Jordan Kent, Logan Payne and rookies Aaron Curry and Deon Butler.
The Seahawks will be at Fort Lewis on Thursday to visit with troops and run obstacle courses. Check out more info here.
Seattle Seahawks fullback Owen Schmitt will make an appearance at the world premiere of “The Call”, which Schmitt is one of the stars of this Friday in Seattle at Central Cinema, 1411 21st Ave. Seattle, WA 98122.
For more information call (206) 686-6684. or check out www.trueindependent.org.
The film is an 85-minute documentary that follows a small-town football agent and three up-and-coming rookies heading into the NFL draft. The movie was filmed in 10 cities over 5 months starring Antoine Cason (San Diego Chargers), Beau Bell (Cleveland Browns) and Schmitt.
The film was named best sports documentary by the Seattle True Independent film festival.

I’m home from the Arizona desert and getting back into the swing of things here in T-Town. So I thought I’d post some answers to your questions over the past couple weeks.
The Wash, Stevo and others want an update on the rehabilitation process of Walter Jones: The latest we’ve seen is Jones running wind sprints with trainers at the end of practice during organized team activities. Jones didn’t seem to favor his surgically repaired left knee during the workout, and appears to be on track to be ready for training camp.
