In my story today on Owen Schmitt’s arrest for suspicion of driving while under the influence, more details emerge on the incident gleaned from the officer’s report at the scene.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk says that in the wake league commissioner Roger Goodell suspended indefinitely Browns receiver Donte’ Stallworth for killing a man while driving drunk, he believes Schmitt should be suspended for a year. Do you think this is too harsh?

[More:]

Clare Farnsworth of Seahawks.com continues his position-by-position analysis of the Seahawks leading up to training camp with a look at running backs.

Farnsworth already has offered reports on the offensive and defensive lines.

Although likely an apples-to-oranges comparison with quarterbacks usually making more than other positions, Pat Kirwan of NFL.com says the Matthew Stafford and Mark Sanchez signings could have an impact on other top-five picks’ negotiations, including Seattle’s Aaron Curry.

So do you think Seattle is getting its money’s worth out of its players? Take a look at this report from Jason La Canfora, who took over for the departed Adam Schefter at NFL.com. It shows that the Seahawks are No. 2 overall in the league, only behind the Dallas Cowboys, in player spending from 2004 to 2008 at $522.42 million during that period. The Cowboys spent $566.89 during that span. You should probably bookmark La Canfora’s blog. It’s worth checking out on a daily basis.

Seahawks Walter Jones and Shaun Alexander, and former Hawk Steve Hutchinson make ESPN’s top 25 players list for this decade.

More Pro Football Talk: Florio also writes about T.J. Houshmandzadeh stating in a Sporting News article by Dennis Dillion that he and Matt Hasselbeck will be among the top five in their position this year, and that both will make the Pro Bowl.

Matt Hasselbeck talks with Brock and Salk of ESPN 710 Seattle in this audio link.

John Carlson talks with KJR’s Dave “Softy” Mahler in this audio link, including a comment about the Schmitt situation.

The opening of training camp for all 32 teams.
