The Seattle Seahawks released cornerback DeMichael Dizer and long snapper Tyler Schmitt this morning. Dizer tore his the ACL in his knee during training camp last season. Schmitt, drafted in the sixth round last year, had back issues and was put on the injured reserve list.

Schmitt was trying to make a comeback, but apparently the team felt they wanted to go in a different direction.

Here's he updated roster, which includes the free agent tryouts added today.

Also, linebacker Leroy Hill signed his contract today and is expected to participate in today's practice.

Some tidbits.

Ken Lucas will wear No. 29. Max Unger No. 60. Deon Butler No. 85. Courtney Greene is 37.

I'll have more later.

Seahawks insider reader Tyler Welch was kind enough to provide an updated roster for the Seahawks in this excel spreadsheet, which includes the additions of Seattle's rookies through the draft and free agency, along with free agent pick-ups.

The Seahawks currently are capped at 80 players on the roster now, but that includes reserving a spot for unrestricted free agent Leroy Hill. Enjoy, and thanks again Tyler.

The Seattle Seahawks will begin their first veteran minicamp this afternoon, and three tryout players have been added to the roster.

The additions should be familiar faces. They include fullback David Kirtman, along with linebackers Shane Simmons and Kelly Poppinga.

Here is a release from the team:

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Patrick Kerney and guard Mike Wahle have undergone successful shoulder surgeries performed yesterday, the team announced this morning. The team also signed center Donovan Raiola to the practice squad, replacing guard Pat Murray, who signed to the Denver Broncos 53-man active roster yesterday.

Kerney underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder and is expected to be sidelined until training camp in 2009.

Wahle underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder and recovery time is expected to last eight to 12 weeks.

Both surgeries were performed by team doctors Ed Khalfayan and Mike McAdam at the Seattle Surgery Center.

The Seahawks today signed Na'Shan Goddard, an offensive lineman who was on the New York Giants' practice squad.

Here is a very brief bio of Goddard, who also played for the New York Jets at one time.

Presumably, the Seahawks are going to announce they will place Chris Spencer on IR today, which Mike Holmgren intimated on Monday. Spencer's back has been acting up and it does not appear that it is going to improve any time soon. We'll get more information at Holmgren's noon press conference.

This is the Seahawks' release:

The Seattle Seahawks have signed tackle Kyle Williams to the active roster from the practice squad. Williams is a second-year player from USC, acquired by the Seahawks as a free agent in 2007.

In order to make room on the roster for Williams, the Seahawks released tight end Jeb Putzier, who joined the Seahawks as an unrestricted free agent from Houston this off-season. Putzier was active in seven games for the Seahawks this season and had no catches.

The Seattle Seahawks have signed safety Jamar Adams from the practiced squad to the active roster, the team announced today. To make room the club released tight end Jeb Putzier.

Adams signed with Seattle as an undrafted rookie free agent on April 27, 2008. The club released him on August 30, 2008, before signing him to the practice squad the following day. He played in 47 career games for the University of Michigan, recording 172 tackles and four interceptions.

Putzier played in six games, making one start for Seattle. He signed with the club on March 4.

This is probably a sign that Will Heller is ready to return from his knee injury. He was in the locker room yesterday and was not walking with the limp that accompanied him in previous weeks.

The Seahawks signed rookie running back Justin Forsett from the practice squad to the active roster on Tuesday and have released wide receiver Michael Bumpus.

I can only assume that Forsett is going to return punts and perhaps kickoffs, and that Bumpus, if he clears waivers, will be put back on the practice squad

The Seahawks went back to the past and signed to their practice squad RB Justin Forsett, who had such a compelling preseason here and who was released by the Indianapolis Colts on Monday. They also signed quarterback Travis Lulay to their practice squad, presumably because Charlie Frye currently is taking 1,293 reps per practice.

To make room for those two, they released Matt Lawrence and Trent Shelton from the practice squad.

The Seahawks shuffled some receivers today, releasing Courtney Taylor, who started at flanker the first two games of the season, and signing former Oregon Duck Jordan Kent from the practice squad.

For whatever reason, Taylor's bravado never translated to success in games, and he quickly went from starter to scout team to, they hope, practice squad if he clears waivers. That has to be a big comedown for the former Auburn star.

John Clayton reported that the Seahawks chose Billy McMullen from among a group of six wide receivers the front office worked out today.

Here is a bio on McMullen, who has played with the Eagles, Vikings and Redskins.

Since they will have only three wide receivers on their roster, along with Seneca Wallace, you have to wonder if the Seahawks plan on signing somebody else now that they have waived Jordan Kent, particularly since McMullen does not have any NFL experience returning punts and/or kickoffs.

Should be interesting to see if Kent, as well as Justin Forsett, clears waivers so that they can be placed on the practice squad.

The other five receivers who they worked out, according to Clayton and NFL.com, were Samie Parker, Mark Bradford, Devale Ellis, Mike Hass and Michael Gasperson. Joe Horn worked out in Tennessee today and Koren Robinson and Reche Caldwell were not contacted by the Seahawks.

Here is the team's release issued a few minutes ago:

The Seattle Seahawks have released running back Justin Forsett, receiver Jordan Kent and punter Ryan Plackemeier, the team announced this afternoon. The team also placed receiver Nate Burleson on injured reserve and signed punter Jon Ryan to replace Plackemeier on the roster.

Ryan spent two seasons in Green Bay where he punted in 32 games, averaging 44.5 yards per punt. Prior to his stint with the Packers, he punted for two years with the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
