Seattle Seahawks fullback Owen Schmitt was arraigned in Black Diamond on July 2 for a charge of suspicion of DUI in June and pleaded not guilty.
Schmitt is scheduled to appear in a pre-trial hearing on July 22.
Here is the press release. There is no mention of Courtney Taylor though the game notes indicate Taylor is now an active player:
Renton, Wash. – The Seattle Seahawks have released wide receiver Keary Colbert, the team announced this afternoon. Colbert originally joined the Seahawks on September 17 after the team traded a 2009 undisclosed draft pick to the Denver Broncos.
He played in seven games with four starts for Seattle, posting seven catches for 52 yards and one touchdown. He also played in two games with Denver to begin the season.
Originally a second-round pick (62nd overall) by the Panthers in the 2004 NFL Draft, he started 42 of 55 games for Carolina and had 109 catches for 1,424 yards with seven touchdowns. He had a career-year in his first season, when he set Carolina rookie records for catches (47), yards (754) and touchdowns (7).
Seahawks WR Courtney Taylor, released yesterday, cleared waivers and just came out to practice about 20 minutes after it started. So at the very least, the Seahawks get the chance to continue developing him.
John Clayton reported that the Seahawks chose Billy McMullen from among a group of six wide receivers the front office worked out today.
Here is a bio on McMullen, who has played with the Eagles, Vikings and Redskins.
Since they will have only three wide receivers on their roster, along with Seneca Wallace, you have to wonder if the Seahawks plan on signing somebody else now that they have waived Jordan Kent, particularly since McMullen does not have any NFL experience returning punts and/or kickoffs.
Should be interesting to see if Kent, as well as Justin Forsett, clears waivers so that they can be placed on the practice squad.
The other five receivers who they worked out, according to Clayton and NFL.com, were Samie Parker, Mark Bradford, Devale Ellis, Mike Hass and Michael Gasperson. Joe Horn worked out in Tennessee today and Koren Robinson and Reche Caldwell were not contacted by the Seahawks.
The players who were released yesterday have until 1 o'clock this afternoon to clear waivers. Then they have to negotiate their contracts -- not that there is a great deal to negotiate -- with the team. Whichever players get done, the team could announce this afternoon.
There is no practice today. They start their regular practice schedule tomorrow, with an afternoon practice, Tuesdays off, and then resume practice on Wednesday in preparation for the Sunday game.
I am heading out for the afternoon but will post the practice squad players who are announced once I get back this evening.
Jordan Babineaux violated the league's substance abuse policy and has been suspended for the season opener against Buffalo.
Rocky Bernard violated its personal conduct policy and has been suspended for the Buffalo game as well.
Sorry for this being late. I was up in Vancouver.
Anyway, the Seattle Seahawks have released guard Dustin Dickinson, receiver Chas Gessner and center Nick Jones, the team announced today. All three players were signed as free agents earlier this year.
The Seahawks signed Texas Tech wide receiver Joel Filani and defensive tackle Kevin Brown, and they waived wide receiver Travis Brown and defensive tackle Kelly Talavou.
Brown was one of the players the team brought in for workouts. None of the others were at today's first day of voluntary veterans' camp.
Filani is from Texas Tech. He spent part of last season in Minnesota.
Tim, we hardly knew ye.
No surprise, after drafting Tyler Schmitt, the Seahawks today released snapper Tim Lindsey, like Owen Schmitt a former West Virgina Mountaineer. Remains to be seen if they get the roster back up to 87 by signing another undrafted college free agent.
Seahawks GM Tim Ruskell confirmed Shaun has been unconditionally released. He said the delay in Shaun's release came about because both sides agreed they wanted Alexander to be healthy when he was released. Ruskell said he told Alexander all along that this was a possibility, but they wanted to wait to make sure he was healthy before they made a firm decision. He had his physical today and was told he was fully healthy.
Ruskell said the decision was predicated on the team's promise to revamp and revitalize the running game. He said they are happy with the signings of Julius Jones and T.J. Duckett but that they still may do something in the draft to address the running game.
Tim Ruskell is meeting with us in a few minutes regarding Shaun. I will update as soon as he is done talking.
OK, there are conflicting reports but the bottom line is Shaun is gone. NFL Network's Adam Schefter says Shaun has been released. Alexander's agent, Jim Steiner, told the AP that an announcement is pending. I am out at Seahawks headquarters and they have not officially told us anything. We all have calls into Steiner, and I think instead of having to talk to all of us individually he is choosing to speak with one reporter with the AP and get it over with. I'll update this when the Seahawks tell us what the plan is.
