NFL quarterbacks so far have completed 61.4 percent of their passes this season. If it stays that way, it will be a new single-season record. In fact, a new record has been set in eight of the last nine years.

By comparison, Matt Hasselbeck is completing just 51 percent of his passes.

**

Mike Holmgren was critical of the team's pass rush this week, even though they are tied for ninth in the NFL with 24 sacks.

The NFL record for fewest sacks in a season? In a 16-game season, the 1981 Baltimore Colts had just 13 sacks. The Kansas City Chiefs have only six this year, largely because they traded Jared Allen to Minnesota.

**

Arizona's win in Seattle on Sunday marks the first time since 1968 that the Cardinals have won all of their road games against division opponents in a single season. The Cardinals were members of the NFC Century division in 1968 and beat Cleveland, New Orleans and Pittsburgh all on the road.

An airman from McChord Air Force Base will participate in the pregame coin toss tomorrow. To read a bit more about it, check out FOB Tacoma, our military blog.

It was recently pointed out to me that this Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is the Seahawks' 500th game in franchise history. So I'll throw this out to you: What were the top five games in franchise history? I just asked Clare Farnsworth, who has seen most of them, and here is his list, in no particular order:

Beating Carolina, 34-14, to get to the Super Bowl.

Beating Miami, 27-20 to get to the AFC championship game in 1983.

Beating the Redskins, 20-10, to get into NFC championship game in 2005.

Beating the Chiefs 51-48 in OT when they returned 4 interceptions for TDs, two by Dave Brown.

The Raiders win in 1988, 43-37, last game of the regular season and they couldn't get out afterward because of the fog. The win captured the division.,

I know a lot of you gave input to Dave about jerseys, why you buy them, what they mean, etc. Here are the two links to the stories that Dave wrote that appeared in today's editions of the News Tribune.

The first story is a look at the jersey issue from a fans' point of view, the second is from the players' point of view.

Saturday is a travel day for team and media, so there’s not going to be much chance for anybody to make news for the weblog. I thought I’d throw a question out there that might be grounds for a column in the future.

I can’t even imagine how many fans I see wearing team jerseys at games. I’ve always wondered if the selection of the jersey is a difficult issue. What goes into making that decision? Is it a player’s style of play or character or image or a combination? Do you think your selection says something about you? Does the jersey reflect that player’s qualities onto you?

Is it exclusive? Can you have more than one? Do you then feel like you’re cheating on the first player? Have you ever abandoned a jersey after the player hits a down streak or gets in a legal scrape? (These things aren’t cheap!)

Have you ever run into a player on the street or at a function while you were wearing his jersey? Did he say anything about it?

So, while you’re waiting for the Seahawks to get the 2007 preseason going, I’d like you to share your perspective on a fan’s connection to the players through the jerseys they buy and wear.

Thanks. Off to San Diego.

Count me among those wondering what's up with our comments feature. Nothing has been manually disabled as far as I know. I've sent an email to our Web people, so hopefully everything will be back to normal shortly. In the meantime, I'll pass along a funny link from when the Seahawks were getting ready for Super Bowl XL.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle makes a mockery of the NFL's new online media policy in a video segment on his employer's Web site. The video shows McClain conducting interviews with a helper holding a stopwatch, the better to comply with rules limiting online content to 45 seconds per day. McClain rushes off as the league-imposed time limits approach, at one point leaving Texans owner Bob McNair standing by himself. McClain later admits that the video ran 15 seconds long, producing an apology designed to keep the league from rushing to Houston to shut down the Chronicle.

Funny stuff, and even funnier if you know McClain. We called him "The Mayor" when the Super Bowl was in Houston because John had so many connections in the city, and the league. He is past president of the Pro Football Writers of America and one of the more likeable guys in our business.

We had some fun with Bryce Fisher in our newspaper story this morning. If anyone has audio or video of him singing the Air Force fight song over the weekend, feel free to point us in the right direction. Thanks to the reader who tipped me off in the first place. Fisher was able to laugh at himself on this one, admitting that he couldn't remember some of the words. Note: The Seahawks are gathering on the field for minicamp practice right now. We'll have our usual report afterward.

WR Deion Branch missed practice today while on his honeymoon. Coach Mike Holmgren laughed at the timing, noting that players always seem to schedule these things during minicamps. "The awards banquets, the graduations ... reminds me of Klinger in M*A*S*H," Holmgren said.

The expectation is that Branch will join this voluntary camp in progress. "He's on his honeymoon and might not be worth much tomorrow," Holmgren quipped. "He's coming in, though. He'll be here."

Matt Hasselbeck was vulnerable to a blindside shot during his post-practice interview Monday. He wasn't wearing the red non-contact jersey worn by quarterbacks during practice. All-Pro left tackle Walter Jones wasn't there to protect his blind side. And so I just couldn't resist asking him about the recent televised steel-cage match between his sister-in-law, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and Rosie O'Donnell. If you haven't seen the video, suffice to say that things got a little heated between the former TV teammates.

Matt Hasselbeck is generally pretty quick with his retorts, but he was close to speechless on this subject. "Strong show," he said when asked about The View in general. "It's been on for 10 years. I think they're looking forward to many more years on the air." We'll take that as a no comment.

Did you hear about the Steelers coach who forwarded porn to NFL brass, their secretaries and commissioner Roger Goodell? The league is understandably upset about such a clear and blatant violation of its new policy limiting online pornographic videos to 45 seconds in duration. Hopefully we'll get an official statement from new league spokesman Clinton Portis.

With the NFL banning independent Web sites from carrying more than 45 seconds of audio/video content at a time, it's natural to wonder if the league will censor unflattering content from its own site. We noted in April that NFL.com ran a press release instead of a news story when pushing back its China game until at least 2009. The league was presumably sensitive to Chinese officials in its handling of the story.

And yet NFL.com carries quite a few "negative" stories, including this one about the latest Bengals arrest. The site also includes stories about the Michael Vick dogfighting case, including this congressional dispatch urging commissioner Roger Goodell to "act swiftly and forcefully" if the player were involved.

Which got me to thinking: Are the Falcons tracking the Vick case on their site? They are not. Today there were a couple of front-page items on Vick's involvement with charities (1, 2). Which is not to suggest that the site takes a pass on the subject. Run the word "dogfighting" through the Falcons' site search and one might come away with the impression that the illegal pastime remains common in the (NFC) South.
