The Seattle Seahawks will have no media availability today, and head coach Mike Holmgren will have his regular press conference on Monday.
The players have the weekend off, so there probably will be no updates over the weekend unless there's some breaking news, then of course we'll update the blog.
If you have any pressing questions concerning the state of the team or moves that will be made in the future, either concerning the draft or free agency, post them in the comments section below and we'll answer some questions over the next couple days. Enjoy the Thanksgiving weekend.
The Seahawks have scheduled a practice for this afternoon at 3 o'clock at the VMAC. Coach Mike Holmgren will be available afterward. I'll have details thereafter.
The Seahawks have not yet confirmed this, but I think they are resuming a regular-season schedule today, which means that Mike Holmgren will meet with us at about 2:15 to preview the Giants game and give us updates on which injured players are going to be back, though on his show with Paul Silvi last night he maintained that he expected everybody back. I'll update the blog when I hear definitively what the schedule is today and for the rest of the week.
I am having an hour-long all-Seahawks chat this afternoon at 1. Again, to participate in the chat, the link is right here: http://wwwb.thenewstribune.com/discussions/discussion.php?id=98.
The NFL Media Web site released a statement today about how many of its shows, including Inside the NFL on HBO, has been nominated for television Emmys. In fact, Inside the NFL received the most nominations, according to the release.
Why is this pertinent? Because the show has been canceled. Which makes you wonder why?
Here is the speculation on Wikipedia:
On February 6, 2008, HBO suddenly announced that the show would end its run after 31 seasons. HBO Sports cited increased competition in NFL-related programming since the show's inception as a reason for its cancellation.[1] Skeptics, however, believe that the real reason for HBO's decision to drop the show was due to the increasing cost[2] for usage of the NFL Films produced highlights.
In the final episode, a taped montage with highlights from the series' 31 seasons was aired. In addition, former hosts Dawson and Buoniconti did the final signoff as the credits rolled.
Bob Costas soon regarded the cancellation by HBO as being a "boneheaded"[3] move.
With the next few weeks slowing down in the NFL, I am taking some time off until the combine in Indianapolis, which begins on Feb. 21. I am traveling there on the 20th and will provide as much stuff as I can from there. I haven't had extended time with my wife and kids since the bye week in October, so I'm going to re-introduce myself to them. There are a few outstanding issues regarding the Seahawks, including the hiring of a QB coach and negotiating with their own free agents before free agency starts in March. If there is any news that happens between now and the time I return, it will be posted on the blog by someone in the office. I know it's a difficult time for rabid Seahawks fans right now because everybody wants answers about what the offseason will bring, and the chance to discuss those issues. Feel free to keep the conversation going about those things, and hopefully there will be some news to consider between now and the time I get back.
Before the playoffs continue on to the conference championships, NFL Replay will highlight all four divisional playoff games of this past weekend exclusively on NFL Network. The schedule is as follows:
Tuesday, January 15, 2008:
5:00 PM ET: Jacksonville Jaguars at New England Patriots
6:30 PM ET: Seattle Seahawks at Green Bay Packers
Wednesday, January 16, 2008:
5:00 PM ET: New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys
6:30 PM ET: San Diego Chargers at Indianapolis Colts
Kenny Albert
Daryl Johnston
Tony Siragusa
The Seahawks have today off, though now they can ponder that with New York's beating of Tampa Bay, a win in Green Bay next Saturday and a New York win over Dallas means that Seattle would get one more home playoff game. Now wouldn't that be an unexpected gift?
Mike Holmgren will have a press conference tomorrow afternoon. Players also will be available. Then the Seahawks will practice Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and depart for Green Bay on Friday morning.
There were a few questions left over from the last post that I wanted to address. First, I think Logan Payne was probably activated so that he wouldn't be plucked by another team in the offseason. I don't know what contract he signed, but if they gave him a deal that locks him up for next season, then they can bring him back at a time that they don't know the future of D.J. Hackett. Also, he can play some special teams. As for the plays at defensive end left behind by the departure of Baraka Atkins, I think those will be filled by Ellis Wyms rather than Babin. When they signed him, they liked Wyms' versatility.
Make it two straight NFC player of the week honors for the Seattle Seahawks.
On Wednesday, Marcus Trufant was selected for his three-interception game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Last week, Lofa Tatupu won the honor for his three-interception game against the Philadelphia Eagles. it marks the first time in team history the Seahawks have recorded back-to-back three-interception games. The last time a pair of teammates had three interceptions in consecutive games was in 1962 when the Buffalo Bills’ Marv Matuszak and Carl Charon did it.
Trufant also had six tackles and scored on an 84-yard return-touchdown as the Seahawks clinched their fourth consecutive division title with a 42-21 win over Arizona. The touchdown marked the first score of his career and the return tied for the third-longest in team history.
In his fifth year from Washington State, this is Trufant’s first career Player of the Week Award and he is the second Seahawk in a row to be honored on defense (Tatupu). The last time two Seahawks were named Defense Player of the Week in consecutive weeks was 1997 when linebacker Chad Brown (Week 3) and safety Darryl Williams (Week 4) were selected.
Frank's laptop is "in the shop" today getting some updates so he asked me to let you know the blog will be a little light today.
