The Tacoma Tide slipped behind in the opening minutes before taking control in a 6-2 win over the Yakima Reds on Saturday before an announced crowd of 500 Curtis High School’s Viking Field.

The victory returns the Tide to the Premier Development League playoffs. The opening match will take place next weekend, with the opponent and site yet to be determined.

Yakima took its only lead in the 12th minute, when Junior Garcia broke into space behind the Tide defense. Garcia sent his first shot off the right post, but got the rebound and sent his second try into the net.

Tacoma struck back with the first two of an eventual three goals by Spencer Schomaker, a Seattle native also playing for Syracuse University. Schomaker tied it from close range with his foot in the 16th minute and put Tacoma ahead to stay with his head in the 18th.

The Tide got breathing room before halftime as midfielder Ruben Orozco of Des Moines and St. Martins juked his defender and fired accurately from 12 yards.

Tacoma dominated the second half with goals from Raphael Cox, Rory Agu and the finale by Schomaker.

Yakima played a man down for the final 34 minutes after an open-field foul on Agu drew a straight red card.
