Merritt Paulson, owner of the Portland Timbers and would-be owner of an MLS expansion team for the Rose City, wrote a guest opinion in the Oregonian, making his case for funding to turn PGE Park into an MLS-ready stadium.
Here's his pitch.
The Sounders are off to Buenos Aires for 10 days of training tentatively scheduled to include four games against opponents yet to be announced.
The team returns on March 6 -- and it may really be The Team. Twenty-five players will be in Argentina, and the team needs to be roster-compliant by March 2: 20 senior players and four developmentals.
Here is a list of players training in Argentina (as provided by Sounders FC): Goalkeepers (3): Evan Bush, Chris Eylander, Kasey Keller; Defenders (10): Evan Brown, Taylor Graham, Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, Patrick Ianni, Jared Karkas, Tyrone Marshall, James Riley, Zach Scott, Nathan Sturgis, Tyson Wahl; Midfielders (7): Osvaldo Alonso, Ryan Caugherty, Brad Evans, Michael Fucito, Stephen King, Sebastien Le Toux, Sanna Nyassi; Forwards (5): Jeff Clark, Nate Jaqua, Roger Levesque, Fredy Montero, Steve Zakuani.
Once back from South America, Sounders FC will play a March 12 closed game against the Colorado Rapids at Qwest FIeld.
The MLS season opens March 19 with Sounders FC hosting the New York Red Bulls -- as you may have heard.
