Seattle Sonics general manager Sam Presti announced on Thursday several additions to the team’s coaching staff.
Mark Bryant, Scott Brooks and Ralph Lewis have been added to the staff, and Brian Keefe has been named player development assistant, Presti announced through a press release.
Bryant is a 15-year NBA veteran as a player, and has worked three years as an NBA assistant, most recently as an assistant coach/player development person last year for Orlando. Bryant also played for Sonics head coach P.J. Carlesimo at Seton Hall University and for the Portland Trail Blazers.
Brooks arrives in Seattle after working as an assistant for the Sacramento Kings last year. Before that, Brooks served for three years as an assistant for Denver. Brooks also played 11 years in the NBA, with stints in Philadelphia, Minnesota, Houston, Dallas, New York, Cleveland and the Los Angeles Clippers. Brooks won an NBA championship with the Houston Rockets in 1994.
Lewis remains with the Sonics, where he has worked as an assistant for the past two seasons. And Keefe joins Seattle from the San Antonio Spurs, where he worked as a video coordinator. Before San Antonio, Keefe worked as an assistant coach for four seasons at NCAA Division II Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I.
Carlesimo said he’s pleased with his new staff.
“I’m really happy with the diverse coaching and playing experience of our staff,” Carlesimo said. “I know it will be an extremely hard working staff, and we’re all really looking forward to continuing the development of our veteran players and working with the rest of our talented young roster.”
