Post-Sonics Watch
Feeling lost without your Seattle SuperSonics? Seattle-area NBA fans face their first season without an NBA team in 41 years. Primarily, our coverage here will focus on the City of Seattle’s attempt to bring the NBA back to Seattle. But we also will provide updates on the Portland Trail Blazers, the Oklahoma City Thunder and area players plying their trade for other teams in the NBA.

Eric Williams covered the Sonics' last season in Seattle. A Tacoma native, Eric graduated from Mount Tahoma High and the University of Puget Sound.

Keeping an eye on the NBA and Seattle's efforts to get back into the game
Thursday, September 13th, 2007
Posted by Eric Williams @ 01:41:19 pm

I'm late to the party on this one, but former Sonics broadcaster David Locke has landed a gig in Salt Lake City doing sports talk radio at K-Fan 1320. Locke had previously worked at K-FAN before he came to Seattle to work at KJR 950 eight years ago.

I'm happy fo Locke. I know some Sonics fans found his personality a bit grating, but Locke always treated me well in the past when I covered the team and no one cares more about the NBA than Locke.

So it's good to see he's found a place where he can share his enthusiasm and the wealth of information he holds. Read Locke's welcome back home to Utah letter here.

He deserved better than he got from the Sonics. He might not have been the best choice for the play-by-play gig, but the guy left a great job to take that one, and was cast aside after one year. I hope that contract paid him some good severance ...

I'll miss Locke around here -- wish KJR had re-signed him.

I second pika's statement, I wish Locke had gone back to KJR. I've been under the assumtion that he burned some bridges when he left; has anyone EVER heard Locke being interviewed about the Supes on KJR since he left?

1 more ting, I posted this in the Marques Johnson thread, but it was one of the wiped out posts. I've never understood why the Sonics didn't convert Locke to color commentator rather then firing him, he's one of the best NBA analysts in the US.

I enjoyed Locke's show on KJR. Something that I could come and go to. His talent did not seem to lend itself to play by play. His voice is a little grating. The know it all mentality of a radio personality does not work as well when you are forced to listen to them for extended lengths of time. Best wishes to David at something he is extremely good at, firing up a local audience for his radio show.

Too bad Locke couldn't find a gig in Seattle. He's truly one of a kind and provided good analysis about basketball and almost anything else.

Locke will be missed. He broke down the game like few others do. Good Luck David.

I loved David Locke and really enjoyed his basketball knowledge, particularly how he could come up with those stats. I was sad to see him get fired by the Sonics, and I, too, really expected him to be rehired by KJR. I agree with Moo about making David the Color Commentator if the Sonics didn't like his play-by-play. You couldn't find a better color commentator with his analysis and his enthusiasm. What were they thinking? If you see him, tell him we miss him and say hi, and wish him luck, OK? - - ZenDoc
