Keeping an eye on the NBA and Seattle's efforts to get back into the game

Unbelievable news out of Portland as No. 1 overall draft pick Greg Oden is done for the season after exploratory surgery revealed cartilage damage in his right knee.
This is sad news for Oden, Portland and the NBA as the league looked forward to anticipated matchups between Oden and Seatte's Kevin Durant.
And it certainly hurts this year's rebuilding effort for Portland. Read more details in this story from The Oregonian.

I almost feel bad for Portland. Almost.
It doesn't suck. Except for those season-ticket holders who paid to see Oden this year.
Otherwise, they get more time to grow (sans Oden) and probably get another high pick next draft. This probably helps them a LOT in the long run (-unless Oden is just injury prone or the knee hinders his performance).
I'm sure many in Rip City are SECRETLY wishing they had chosen Durant. If any Blazer officials have that thought, they certainly cannot express it. They'll be fine. They should be in no rush to build a great team. We are under a bit more pressure.
Even when Oden comes back, though, I'm still glad we got Durant. He's the one I've coveted (for the Sonics) since March.

I think he'll be okay, although it's unfortunate for the Blazers that they lose an entire year of development as a team. As a Sonics fan, though, I couldn't care less, and am soooooooooooooo happy we ended up with Durant. I always thought he'd end up being the better player, and this just solidifies that. The only year in the history of the draft that the real winner was the team with the #2 pick. Except that Hakeem/Bowie/Jordan year. #2 sucked for the Blazers then.
