The Sonics will go to camp with basically its current roster of 14 players under contract, with the only expected addition to include five-year NBA veteran Jermaine Jackson. The 6-foot-5 guard played summer league ball with Seattle. Jackson has played with five different NBA teams, most recently for Milwaukee in the 2005-06 season. With training camp starting Tuesday and only a week for the team to prepare before Seattle travels to Sacramento Oct. 9 to face the Kings in its first preseason game, Presti said he wanted to limit the roster so the coaches can focus on implementing the team’s new philosophy. “It allows for us to get right into teaching our system, evaluating the team and getting a feel for where we are,” Presti said. “Our focus for camp has to be on the guys we currently have and getting reps for those guys. “For our team right now and the direction we are headed, I think it¹s important for our coaches to be working with our players —the guys they are going to be seeing every day — and getting to know them and getting in a nice rhythm.” Presti said everyone is in town now and has been for the past few days. With the team’s payroll at just over $63 million it appears the Sonics don’t have much wiggle room to bring in new players. However, Seattle is deep at guard and small forward, and could make some moves later on during training camp once head coach P.J. Carlesimo establishes what his rotation will be. Here’s the training camp roster. Player Pos. Ht./Wt. From Years Exp.

I wish I could say I was excited about a mediocre team that traded away it's best 2 players & didn't get a superstar in return.
It's not fair to ask Durant to save the franchise at 19. We probably won't know how good he's going to be until he's been in OKC for a few years. GRRR. Hopefully Durant, Green & Wilcox will at least be entertaining to watch while we lose. Hopefully Carlissimo won't be as lame of a coach as I think he's going to be. Hopefully Durant is really an NBA shooting guard as has been floated here in the past so KD & Green can be on the floor at the same time.
I understand what you are saying moo but we didn't even get close to the playoffs the last couple of years. I don't see us getting any closer competing with a tough western conference, an aging Ray Allen and a unhappy, expensive contract with Rashard Lewis. At least we got a stronger bench and some future stars to build around with cap space and draft picks to grow. We got Swift back who could be a good scorer and our second squad should be able to put up great numbers, especially against a shallow team. Seattle is the underdog once again this year and it will be exciting to watch the team develop.
i am totally pumped for the sonics season thier are lots of new faces with a all new plan with new coaches and gm i am folowing the sonics closely so i don't miss a second
i want to see green and durant play along with wally, delonte, and thomas i extremely pumped to see how swift does! also nov 1st sonics 119 suns 111 GO SONICS!!!
maybe this team can play some defense too? People forget that even though lewis and allen were great scorers, they "couldn't defend a chair" as a scout said about some certain point guard. Will this team make the playoffs? Probably not. But don't forget that this team was without any experience at center last year and it was a blow they couldn't withstand. I honestly think that they are going to be better than many people expect. So prognosticate as much as you want, it's a deep division, but we haven't seen anything from this team other than a limited summer session.
Presti has made good moves and team will be better. Allen and Lewis were wonderful scorers who led the team to losing seasons. They were too pouty.
His player and coaching staff additions seem good. I expect Collison will beat out Swift to start at center. Sene and Petro may not play much at all. It is a good sign that all spots are open.
Amidst all the hype surrounding Durant, Green, West, etc., I hope PJ doesn't overlook Wilcox as an offensive force inside. I hear much less about Wilcox than I do about Collison, for example -- but you can see how explosive Wilcox can be as the roll part of the pick-and-roll. He brings a Kemp-like aggression no-one else on this team has. He'll get his rebounds and the team will limp along if PJ is not creative with Wilcox. But I believe that if they actually write up plays for Wilcox, it could have a huge impact and also free up room for Durant and Green to do their thing.
