Post-Sonics Watch
Feeling lost without your Seattle SuperSonics? Seattle-area NBA fans face their first season without an NBA team in 41 years. Primarily, our coverage here will focus on the City of Seattle’s attempt to bring the NBA back to Seattle. But we also will provide updates on the Portland Trail Blazers, the Oklahoma City Thunder and area players plying their trade for other teams in the NBA.

Eric Williams covered the Sonics' last season in Seattle. A Tacoma native, Eric graduated from Mount Tahoma High and the University of Puget Sound.

Keeping an eye on the NBA and Seattle's efforts to get back into the game

The Sonics hung in there but ultimately couldn't stay with Indiana, who just executed better on both the offensive and defensive end than Seattle.

Specifically, Indiana did a nice job of attacking Seattle's zone and man defense. The Pacers shot 11-of-26 from the 3-point line. And defensively Indiana forced Seattle to shoot 37 percent from the floor.

Rookie Kevin Durant eclipsed the 20-point mark for the first time in his NBA career, finishing with 21 points on 6-of-13 shooting. In particular Durant shot the ball well from the perimeter, going 3-for-5 from the 3-point line. He also finished with five rebounds.

Listen to Durant talk about the game here.

In his first action Mouhamed Sene also played well. In 24 minutes Sene finished with six points, 15 rebounds and four blocks. Coach P.J. Carlesimo said Sene was the best player on the floor against Indiana.

X-Rays on Damien Wilkin's right ankle came back negative. I talked to Damien after the game and he said his ankle did not swell that much, but he could only put a little bit of pressure on it. He'll be evaluated by the team on Monday.

Overall Carlesimo would have liked to see Seattle play better, but he credited Indiana with a solid game on both ends of the floor. Listen to P.J. comments after the game here.

Seattle plays again on Thursday against the L.A. Lakers in Bakerfield. I think we'll see one more game of evaluation before P.J. starts to hone in on a starting lineup and consistent rotation.

Wow, are those Sene stats a signifier of anything or just preseason luck?

Great stuff. Although there has been a lot of evaluation has there been any signs of set positions for the bigs. Have Petro, Swift, and Sene been on the floor at the same time or are they mainly using one of those guys at the 5 then either Thomas, Weezy and Collison at the 4?

Petro seems like he would be a much more efficient player if he played alongside a shot blocking presence.

Iqbal70: I think Sene realized this was one of the few chances he'll receive to prove himself and he took advantage of it. He still was out of position at times defensively and has limited offensive skills. But he did prove that he can contribute when given some minutes.

Kramsand: Rotation-wise you probably won't see Swift, Petro and Sene together on the floor very often. P.J. said all three of those guys and Kurt Thomas will mainly play the five, and Wilcox and Collison will get most of the time at the four. P.J. also concerned about making sure Collison and Wilcox get enough time on the floor, so Collison will probably see some time at five as well.

The Oklahoma Unsuper Sonics are sounding better and better! Does any body with half a mind really think these over rated underachievers are really gonna do anything this year? This Team sucks pure and simple. I'm telling you this even before the real season starts trust me!

Thanks Jeggo, that really contributed to the blog. I think everyone realizes the Sonics aren't going to be challenging for a championship this year, but they should at least be more entertaining than the past two versions.

but they should at least be more entertaining than the past two versions. That is my point! Don't hold your breath, Should be Could be, But won't be. Unless your version of better is a mere slight above high school basketball... Ok maybe college! Sorry if i offend you however i have watched the Sorrysonics to long to think otherwise. Send them to Oklahoma maybe the Okies can learn to enjoy a less then mediocre bunch of underachievers, Seattle has to many already Husky's, Mariners, Seahawks. And you can call me bitter if ya want i call it FACT!

Since this years team has only played two preseason games your "facts" seem a little hazy. But you enjoy yourself there in Bittertown.
