Keeping an eye on the NBA and Seattle's efforts to get back into the game

Another bad performance by the Sonics as they struggle to find some consistency.

The Rockets led by as many as 38 points in the fourth quarter, and inside with Yao Ming, Luis Scola and Shane Battier Houston dominated the middle.

Coach P.J. Carlesimo played 13 guys, and I don't think you're going to see that on Tuesday against Golden State. The Sonics really need to decide on a starting lineup and start to establish some consistency early in games.

Listen to what Carlesimo had to say after the game here.

Delonte West played well off the bench, finishing with 22 points and seven assists. I think Delonte will probably be one of the main guys coming off the bench. He seems OK with the role, and does a nice job of getting into the flow of the game.

West talked about his performance here.
Durant continues to show that he can score, finishing with 25 points on 9-of-20 shooting.

But overall the team struggled again defensively. Houston shot up the zone, going 11-for-27 from the 3-point line.

Eric, that's really the score that you wished was the real one. You reversed the positions of Houston and the Sonics. Of course it was actually Houston 117 to Seattle's 94 -- a 23-point loss in a game that wasn't actually that close. This year's Sonics are going to be quite a project and probably will win very few games - maybe 20. Their defense needs a lot of work, which is disappointing given PJ's emphasis on it. Their free throw shooting was also atrocious. Delonte West and Kevin Durant were about the only bright spots tonight.

I see you corrected the score about the same time that I was writing my post. I can't blame you for trying.

The goal of the preseason is to work on things and don't get injured. This team has a ton to work on with so many new players and all new staff.
I won't be disappointed unless we start sucking during the real games.

I agree about the rotation Eric. The time is now. PJ can add players into the mix as things develop during the season but if he waits any longer, its going to be a mess when the season starts.

Still not enough interior defense and Wilcox isn't going to really change that. The 4-headed center (Thomas, Swift, Petro and Sene) has to perform better for them to have any chance. I wonder why Delonte West isn't getting any consideration for starting?
