Keeping an eye on the NBA and Seattle's efforts to get back into the game
Monday, January 28th, 2008

Unable to find playing time behind several players at the stacked wing position, the Sonics assigned Mickael Gelabale to the Idaho Stampede of the NBA Development League on Monday.

Gelabale will join fellow Sonic Mouhamed Sene in Idaho. He hadn’t played in the last five games. In 24 appearances, Gelabale averaged 2.4 points and .9 rebounds a contest.

NBA teams can assign up to two players who are rookies or in their second season to the team’s D-League affiliate.

Probably a good move! I think the kid can play, but he does need more time than he's getting.

Gelebale is the most exciting spark plug off of the bench that the Sonics have. If only there was enough time and there were enough shots to go around with Durant making 5 out of 20 he attempts, Watson taking wild three point shots on the break, Wilkins shooting air balls with 10 seconds left on the shot clock, Ridnour forgetting which direction the ball needs to go in for scoring purposes and P.J. looking like he knows he made a large error in taking this job that is way too big for a decent college coach. Gelebale will probably have more fun wading through three feet of Idaho snow to get to the arena than he would anywhere the Sonics play these days.

I've been calling for this all season. It's time to get Gelly some playing time. He's a solid talent who is being overlooked by a horrible coaching staff. I can't wait until PJ is canned. He was a temp hire who has done what's been asked of him, get the Sonics into the lottery. At least now a couple young guys (Sene and Gelly) will get some potential development out of this lost season.
