Primarily, our coverage here will focus on the City of Seattle’s attempt to bring the NBA back to Seattle. But we also will provide updates on the Portland Trail Blazers, the Oklahoma City Thunder and area players plying their trade for other teams in the NBA.

Keeping an eye on the NBA and Seattle's efforts to get back into the game

Only two months after negotiating a new lease agreement with the state of Louisiana, Hornets owner George Shinn is at it again, seeking a 10-year commitment that would lock his team in the market for the next decade.

Shinn said a long-term commitment to the market would help his franchise sell season tickets.

And if you’re thinking about the Memphis Grizzlies replacing the Sonics if they leave city, think again. The Grizzlies appear to have a pretty tight lease that locks them into the FedExForum for another 10 years.

Shin just needs to have money paid to him from New Orleans in order to make a profit because there are not enough revenue sources in such a small market.
How is that moving to small markets working out for the NBA? Does not look so good. Maybe it is not such a hot idea having its teams located in places that do not generate much revenue for the league as a whole. Maybe the rest of the owners would rather not have a bunch of teams in small markets, begging for annual subsidy just to make payroll. If only they had a bigger market as an option, and better revenue streams.
There is no way Shinn gets 10 years of tax money for NO.

I don't care about New Orleans or Memphis. If the Sonics leave I will not be attending anymore NBA games, no matter which, if any, team ends up in Seattle.

I would definitely NEVER support taking some other cities team and bringing them to Seattle.

Eric, we need an thread for the arena issue man. Just throw an entry up there...

Calling all Sonics fans,

I just got off the phone with the Hotline 800-562-6000 and the governor's office -- (360) 902-4111.

I got right through to both lines. That means they aren't getting enough calls.

Fans - these lines should be ringing off the hook and busy; I shouldn't be able to get through.

Here's what I'm doing, and I recommend everyone to do the same:

Make just four calls per day -- two each to the legislative hotline and the governor's office.

Make one set of calls (one legislative and one governor) in the morning, the other in the afternoon or evening. Start TONIGHT!

The process is easy. All you have to do is say that "I am calling to support Steven Ballmer and his new arena proposal. I urge my governor (or my legislator) to make sure a bill is reviewed and adopted this week, or in a special session."

That is all you have to do.

You need to take this attitude -- "If I don't call, no one will." It's true. Too many assume someone else will call for them.

I was at the rally on Saturday. Our calls and emails really do make a difference.

Shinn must be crazy as hell if he thinks New Orleans is gonna give him tax money to support his team.
