In response to: Wilkens willing to help area's efforts to get NBA team

The whole situation is terrible. The owner(Starbucks Dude) did not have a clue about basketball or what it takes to be an owner. The city and state government did not have the funds and they were not seeking funding for a better facility. That finding a suitable location was stupid also. Land was availabe but the time had run out. And then that last ditch effort to come up with a group of buyers did not work either. There is blame all around.

The Sonics were in bad shape. They were losing a lot of games. The organization was bringing in different coaches and players and the loses just continued. And all those problems with players was beginning to get ugly. Fans will not go and watch a losing team. The Sonics did not win and they got sold.

The city of Seattle is as responsible for the loss of the Sonics as the stupid state government, and of course Clay (the liar) Bennett. I'm a proud Blazers fan! I'm rooting for the Blazers to demolish the Thundersonics every year.

Forget the NBA, what's the chances of getting an NHL team here in Seattle? I think that would be great.

forget booga basket ball. seatle has what it needs and can afford now. prima donnas at outrageous prices, who needs em. of course it seems a lot of footplayers need big paydays to get outta the slammer. they should have left the team in the king dome when it was imploded.

What Wilkins said in the interview is just plain garbage!
“I can help,” Wilkins said. “I have a great rapport with the NBA.”
“What has to happen first is, you have to have plans on the table to build a building,” Wilkens said. “The sooner you have that, the quicker you will have a team.”

Thank you Captain Obvious!!! I thought we lost that guy when Ron Fairly left the announcing booth. WTH? It's absolutely funny to me that a building can be so "out of date" in 15 years. I do believe that we build buildings to last long for a reason. How long has Madison Square Garden been around? If you can't put enough phat check snobs in the Super Expensive seats then so be it! The NBA is toast. And i'm not saying that because i'm an upset Sonics fan. I'm saying that because they have totally out priced their fan base and over paid their players. I'd rather watch a Jackie Moon team run around a court like idiots then pay $100 to watch a guy like Jerome James sit on the bench and check his bank account to make sure his $300,000 a week paycheck cleared.
Don't bring the NBA back here! I've decided that it's dead to me and no player/owner/commissioner will get another cent from me or my family.

I understand that David Stern has no ill will towards Seattle and the fans of the area; he would be an idiot to not want to tap into the market we have in this region, which goes well beyond the puget sound. What i wonder is why anyone in this community wants the NBA back as long as Stern is running it. The guy got together with his old bossom buddie and assisted him in STEALING a team for his smaller market. They lied and cheated and stole our team from us and you want to welcome them back with a half-billion dollar building? Are you kidding?
I want to watch the Sonics play again, but not until after Stern is gone.

I care, but your anger and frustration is misdirected. At least this time around.
Chopp is the Speaker of the House. SB6116 had not yet gotten to the floor for a vote in the Senate to be considered by the House. Chopp has been a obstacle before but in this particular instance he didn't get the chance. You can thank the WSU supporters that got their bloomers twisted when they thought UW was going to get money from an extended tax that is generated in the city and county that they play in. The bill is most likely dead, but it has been dead before and now there is the likelyhood that the '09 leglislative session will be extended for another try. If SB6116 gets in the Senate voted on, approved, then moved to the House for consideration and if
Frank Chopp then puts the kybosh on it, I'm with you. But for right now call 1-800-562-6000 and wait. Make Clay pay!!

On the off chance that anyone other me cares, the Seattle Times is reporting that Senate Bill 6116 is dead. Bennett gets to keep his 30 million, & Washington's out of the NBA for good. I HATE FRANK CHOPP.

great rich deep history!!!. The NBA will be back, and I don't mean in Seattle necessarily. Under David Stern minus the Michael Jordan era he has ruined the GAME this used to be. The "Sonics" as a team might be back in a couple years but who knows when the fun fan favorite game comes back. I don't hate the NBA. I believe in the post Stern era, this game can come back.

Does ANYONE other then me care that it appears almost certain that the idiots of the Wa state legislature have cost the city of Seattle $35 mil & cost the citizens of Washington an NBA team by refusing to let Seattle pay for there own stadium??????

I wish I could vote against Frank Chopp. He is a jerk.

I'm also not pleased about the proposed huge cuts in health care, that should be the LAST thing they cut.
In response to: All-Star time warp: Jan. 15, 1974

This blog was bangin', yo.

Now, we're going on three weeks without a post.

I know OKC's been winning a little bit, and not much has happened on the home front.

But I would be goddamed if something in Sonics history wasn't worth mentioning along the way. There's only 41 years to choose from sucker.

In response to: Funding for KeyArena on shaky ground

Speaking of arena funding the Seattle Storm has inked a deal with the city. For the Storm fans I'm glad that their team is staying, playing in half-filled lower bowl in a decaying Key Arena and Seattle Center. The city and the Storm are finalizing a deal that exempts the Storm from the auspices of I-91 which amounts pretty much a "sweetheart" deal. I don't know the nuts and bolts of this poison pill city ordance but I do remember it gave David Stern and Clay Bennett coverage to abscond (with alot help from Nick Licata, and an inept city council) with the Sonics. This is PC hypocrisy at its finest
