Sonics coach Bob Hill has been asking for weeks now for a veteran center to start and take the pressure off Nick Collison and Johan Petro. When we were in Detroit a few weeks ago, I wrote that Dale Davis was exactly the kind of guy the Sonics needed, a vetran in the last year of his contract who could start but not have too many future expectations. I ran the name past Hill recently and he said it was the kind of guy they could use. Well, now that Chris Webber could be headed to Detroit, and there are reports that a big man needs to be moved to accomodate Webber, the light goes off, does it not? THe issue, of course, is matching salaries. Davis makes $3.5 million. THe only player the Sonics have close to that is Damien Wilkins at $2.7 mil. The Pistons probably would love to have Wilkins, but the question is would the Sonics give him up for a quick fix? DOubtful -- unless they are convinced he is not going to get much better and want to get out from the remaining three years on his contract.
