You should have thought long and hard about the consequences of ticking off computer nerds with your anticlimactic endings, David Chase. They'll mess up your Wikipedia bio. Talk about someone who could use witness protection – you know, in case the crazies take it a few steps further.

This morning we asked how ticked off you all were about "The Sopranos" finale on a scale of one to 10, with one meaning you may have already started writing a dissertation on the brilliance of David Chase, and 10 meaning you launched your flat screen through the living room window. Or at least you thought about it.
But it's not too late to add your two cents. The survey is here.

Hulk smash!!! Hulk mad!!! Hulk not like lack of resolution in "Sopranos" finale!!! Hulk no like how David Chase toy with his emotions then cop out with whimpy, open-ended ending!!! RRAAAAARRRRRGGGHHHH!!!!! That's how I feel. Granted, the final scene -- with the screen going blank and surely making 20 to 40 million freak out at the same time -- was a brilliant if mean spirited practical joke. Wonder how many people bashed their TV screens in with baseball bats in fits of "Untouchables"-style rage? And just how ticked off were you all? Or did you actually like the ending? Take the survey.

I could go for one more season. Gotta give a nod to reporter Sean Robinson, or "Nostra-Sean-mus," as we'll be calling him starting Monday. Here's what he said a while back:
And, for a minute there at the end of the episode, I really thought Meadow was gonna buy it, just like Gandalf said. Well, either her or the three members of the family already inside the restaurant. I could have done with out the reappearance of Hunter Skank-a-rella, or whatever David Chase's daughter's character's name is. I always hated her character, and her reappearance was unnecessary and corny. I think Chase was just playing with us during the entire episode, ratcheting up the tension with every other scene: AJ's SUV smoking, wise guys meeting in a freezing warehouse, suspicious cars pulling up to Tony, lots of conjecture about who really flipped, gun charges that won't go away, people bursting into safehouses – even at the very end you had several characters looking as though they might be hanging around the restaurant just clip Tony. So what did you all think? Are you satisfied? Hungry for more? Sick of Philly's squashed melon? Sick of Journey? I gotta digest it some more, but how do you digest "stasis" and "uneasy balance"? My "Sopranos" watching buddy and I are having a big spaghetti dinner. There was talk of cigars and suits. No big whoop. But anyone else doing anything fun to commemorate the finale?

Not much has changed with our "Who's Gonna Whack Tony?" survey with only a few more ballots coming in. And one of the contenders is dead as of last episode. But here's how you thought the finale would go down:
At this point, I guess it's safe to say the Bobby Bacala votes were wrong. Now if this was more of a "Cleaver" style gangster drama, that would be a different story.

Obviously, several candidates have been eliminated since we first opened our "Who's Gonna Whack Tony Soprano?" survey. But just for fun, we thought we'd solicit one last round of votes for Sunday's finale. Vote here and we'll post final results between now and Sunday.

So, 9 p.m. Sunday (or 6 p.m. if you watch HBO East). According to the schedule over at HBO.com, we're at least getting a slightly longer episode for the finale, "Made in America." Shows generally run between 49 and 55 minutes. Guess they need the extra time for all the whackings that seem to be lined up. I made some of these comments in another post, but I wanted to bring them up front. It seems everyone I talk to thinks the finale is going to be one huge whackfest. I don't think it's possible to end the show without some meaningful gunplay (I know, that's sick.) I still wonder if Paulie is working with the feds. He sure asks a lot of strange questions these days. What if he's setting up both sides? Agent Harris can't be hanging around so much for nothing, can he? And will there be any fallout from the whacking of the Ukrainians? I didn't realize it at the time, but I read on HBO.com that the girl was Phil's housekeeper. It would be strange to have the Russians swoop in now, but stranger things have happened. LOL, maybe NY, NJ, the Feds and the Russians all meet up in a warehouse and duke it out for the superfecta. Might as well toss Furio into the mix, too. Maybe he's allied himself with the "Arabians." Seems like a jumble of loose ends. And what does the show's title mean? Ooooo - maybe Janice's narcoleptic ex-boyfriend gets made and becomes the boss of a new combined NY/NJ family. Okay, I'm just going nuts now. Can't wait for Sunday! Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

Well, I suppose Janice might whack Tony now, thinking he was behind Bobby's murder. (And, sheesh! Those poor kids.) By the way, good call on the "Blue Comet" thing, Gandalf. I thought it might have something to do with a car. You said trains. Nice one : ) Tonight's hits were different than any of the past hits against Tony Soprano and his crew. When Junior's hired thugs hit Tony in season one, Tony pretty much took out both of 'em. Christopher, half-dead from the independent (and stupid) hit on him in season three, took Sean Gismonte down with him. But Bobby and Silvio. These hits hurt. Bobby's dead. Silvio's in the hospital, probably as good as dead. And Phil's crew came away without a scratch. What do they care that the Soprano crew accidentally whacked the wrong "Phil"? These hits hurt a lot. Bobby? Nicest wiseguy in the series. He hadn't even clipped anyone until the first episode of this season. As sociopaths go, he was one of the show's most likable characters – one of my favorites anyway. And Silvio? I'm with David Chase. The guy IS New Jersey. And he's loyal gangster through and through, a fact he proved in the first five minutes of tonight's episode. These hits hurt a lot. I want revenge, and I suspect a lot of you do, too. With only about 55 minutes left in the series, how's it going to go down? Thursday, May 31st, 2007

I wanted to bring this comment from gandalf out front, because it got me thinking.
I mentioned a while ago what I thought might be Meadow's fate. What my theory lacked was the impetus for Meadow to act in her father's stead. Patrick Parisi's death might be just the thing to push her over to the dark side. Think about it. Her mobbed-up family has had a negative impact on every romantic relationship she's ever had. Noah? Jackie? Finn? Even in season one – episode one, in fact – her mother confronted her with a semiautomatic rifle when she was trying to sneak back into the house after going to see a boyfriend (wasn't his name Patrick?) Later (I forget which season, but it was before Noah), her Dominican boyfriend was ready to scurry out of the house when he thought Tony and Carmella had come home early. He said he didn't want Meadow's dad finding her there with his "Dominican @$$." I think that covers her entire love life. If I'm leaving someone out, let me know. I don't think Eric Scatino really counts; they were just music partners, not boyfriend/girlfriend iirc. Still, he sure let her have an earful after his dad lost his Pathfinder to Tony & friends in the Executive Game. Given what we know about Meadow's love life, plus the hint/conjecture (post below) about the upcoming "serious ramifications" of "mistaken identity" in Sunday's episode, if Patrick were to bite it, that might just be the final straw for Meadow.

Over at HBO's Sopranos site, there's a short description of Sunday's episode under the Full Schedule heading. The description for episode 85, "Blue Comet," is as follows:
What's does Blue Comet mean, anyway? Is that a car?

"The Sopranos" have been the high point of my last few months of Sundays. Pathetic but true. And it's a good thing I have a worthy distraction -- Beastie Boys and Arcade Fire at Sasquatch -- to keep me from feeling those withdrawal symptoms too much. So what's everyone else doin' to fill the void Sunday night?

Haven't seen much of the Buccos or Bompensieros for a while. Maybe one of Artie's or Angie's kids will clip Tony. Okay, probably not. But what are some of the more outlandish theories out there? Try these on for size: • Noah's dad clips Tony.

This thread over at HBO.com has some interesting prediction posts based on recent show events. Gives ya a lot to think about. I now have a theory about Meadow, based on some of the posts. I've always wondered whether or not Meadow might end up in a position of power. Obviously, matriarchy is one of the show's most powerful themes, but, as Tony once noted to his female contact in Italy, "A woman boss? Never happen in the states." However, I can definitely see it happening, especially given the way Johnny Sack did business while he was in jail. A few things need to happen for Meadow to assume power. Suppose Paulie is an FBI informant. He sure was chatty during his and Tony's recent trip to Florida, and he elicited more than just a few grunts from Tony when he referenced the boss' first hit. Here's how I see the dominoes falling: Philly tries to hit Tony but kills AJ instead. Tony and the crew retaliate in grand fashion, taking out Philly and his capos. Tony also kills Paulie, who has given the feds everything they need to lock Tony up. Then, just like Johnny Sack did, Tony runs things from jail through a family member: Meadow. Only Meadow is much more savvy and ruthless than Johnny's brother-in-law was. And the rest of Tony's crew won't touch her because she's engaged to Patrick Parisi, Patsy's son. Bada-bing! Meadow is the de facto boss of New Jersey's first family of crime. Imagine how formidable she'll be once she gets her law degree. Fade out to the music of the Pussycat Dolls' "Don't You Wish Your Girlfriend Was Hot Like Me?"

I dug around on the Intertron and found a few more Little Carmine Quotes. Gotta love that crazy little idiot. (Assume that elipses = profanity.) • "How did it get to this? We're in a... stagmire!" There are more out there, to be sure. Drop 'em here if you find any.

I was channel surfing and just stumbled across Frank Vincent (aka Phil Leotardo) being interviewed by CNN pundit Glenn Beck. And when asked if the final season of "The Sopranos" might just be a leadup to a movie, Vincent said he'd heard rumors about a prequel. He was tight lipped regarding how the season would end. "I don't know if everything is gonna be tied up the way people expect it to be." Hmmmm. Needless today, I had to do a little more research on those rumors. And I found this article from last year on the MSNBC Web site. (On a side note, check out that quote at the end of the story about killing what it means if Tony kills family members. Interesting in light of Chrissy's murder. But I digress.) And from earlier this month there's this. So who thinks David Chase will leave the finale "to be continued" as a setup for a big screen flick?

... have your ideas on what might happen to Tony changed? Then make sure you take the "What's Gonna Whack Tony?" survey. Or if you have a longer take on what might happen, leave a comment.

I've come to love any scene with Little Carmine. He's such an idiot. Every time he opens his mouth, he says something stupid. He mixes metaphors, misuses "big" words and can't even put a decent cliche together to save his wife (I know it's supposed to be "life," but that's probably how Little Carmine would butcher the saying). At first, it was like torture listening to him speak. As a word guy, hearing someone butcher the language so badly was like hearing someone scrape their fingernails on a chalkboard. Tonight's Little Carmine line was something like "You're standing at the precipice of an enormous crossroad." You can see Tony's brow furrow at that mixed-up sentence. I'll try to remember some more "Little Carminers" and post them later. Got any?

Can't wait for tonight's episode which will, of course, support some of the crackpot theories I've shared on this here blog. Right? Right. I promise not to be too smug. But I definitely want to know what everyone else thinks about the crazy plots twists they're sure to throw at us tonight. Will Tony get exposed as Chris's killer? Will the police come looking for that screen writer guy's murderer? Will that blasted Russian dude from way back when finally show up? The suspense is killing me!
