There are marching band tunes that last longer than the Huskies' final spring practice Friday before their annual Spring Game. It lasted a grand total of 54 minutes.

"I want to see them fresh tomorrow, play fast," UW coach Steve Sarkisian said.

Here are some of the coach's tidbits about the game Saturday:

• The teams will be divided up among first- and second-string players from the offense and defense. Sarkisian added "there will probably be some guys that flip-flop sides to even out the numbers."

[More:]

• Total plays? Sarkisian said between 80 and 90. "We're still no the deepest team right now. I'm not trying to kill these guys, but I do want to give them that chance to go out and play, and show what they've been able to get accomplished here in 15 practices."

• Notable injuries. Besides players such as defensive end Everette Thompson (foot) and offensive lineman Skyler Fancher (leg) who have been out of commissions with spring-ending injuries, here are a few guys Sarkisian mentioned won't play Saturday.

Out are linebackers E.J. Savannah (shoulder) and Kurt Mangum (leg), and receiver D'Andre Goodwin (hamstring). Questionable is linebacker Fred Wiggs (leg), and probably is linebacker Donald Butler (knee).

The coach said some players will be held out for precautionary reasons, but noted all the running backs (except Brandon Yakaboski) will play and receive plenty of carries.

• The short practice Friday focused on special teams, which won't be included as part of the game Saturday. Also, with all the slanting and blitzing the defense has done this spring, "protection" things were addressed as well for specific players on offense.

By the way, another placekicker – albeit, unnamed – joined the fray Friday.

To sum up the team's entire four-week camp, Sarkisian said, "I'm excited. I went back and watched the first three practices – again – and I watched our most previous three before this one. We're a better football team. And that is something, coming into spring, we wanted to get accomplished. We're playing faster, we're more physical, we're more attentive to detail and the beauty of all that, there is still a lot of room for improvement. We can keep getting better."
