The Huskies' season-opening football is being moved to Aug. 31 from Sept. 1.
Here is part of the release from UW:
The date and time of the University of Washington's season-opening football game at Syracuse University has been changed to accommodate a national telecast by Big East Conference rights-holder ESPN, the league announced today.
The game, which was originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 1, will be played on Friday, August 31 at 5 p.m. (Pacific) at the Carrier Dome on the Syracuse campus in upstate New York. The Friday night game will mark only the second non-Saturday contest for the Huskies since 1999.
The season-opener for both teams and UW's second-earliest game in history, the game will serve as the first gridiron meeting between the two schools since 1977 and Washington's second-ever visit to the state of New York. The two teams have played only twice previously with each claiming a home victory. In the 1977 contest, the Orangemen earned a 22-20 home win in Archbold Stadium (the Carrier Dome opened in 1980). In 1973, Washington earned a 21-7 victory in front of more than 54,000 fans at Husky Stadium.
Washington is 3-5 all-time against teams that play football in the current Big East Conference with five of the eight meetings coming against the University of Pittsburgh. UW has also played a single contest against Cincinnati in addition to the two games against Syracuse.
Following the opener, Washington will return to Seattle for a pair of home contests against Boise State (Sept. 8) and Ohio State (Sept. 15).
